Throw partisanship aside - federal icac stat

Remove this Banner Ad

Labor and the Greens have tabled and supported a Federal ICAC proposal nine times. The LNP have voted it down nine times and never tabled their own.

It absolutely is a partisan thing.
That’s what oppositions and minor parties do. Do you know how many times the Coalition tabled the NSW ICAC proposal in the 1980s?

The Greens are just wedging the major parties anyway. Easy to be anti-corruption when you’re not worth bribing.

What happened at a State level 40 years ago doesn't carry any weight in this argument. Why didn't the Liberals do anything when they were in opposition?

The Abbott years are the only recent example we have of a Liberal opposition but they seem to exist solely to oppose and undermine in opposition, at least, and too often for many people's taste the ALP opposition has worked collaboratively with the government.

No political mileage in it

The public’s appetite for a federal anti-corruption body has increased in recent years so the opposition have jumped on the bandwagon

No different to the Liberals in NSW jumping on the bandwagon in the 80s in the wake of Painters & Dockers

Well the proposed structure is out, and it’s about as crap as everyone expected

The law enforcement division is fine, I guess. The public service division is absolute garbage. Can’t hold public hearings. Can’t make findings of corruption. Can’t initiate investigation of politicians.

Looks like it will be even less effective than Victoria’s IBAC, and that’s saying something

Matty Guy not in the big house is a good indicator.
