I'd be going Fog and TT as the two lynch pins, we have to start making plans for the future as a club. There is absolutely no need for Tex to be playing week in, week out at the moment.

tex is playing for a contract, pure and simple. You don't earn one of those sitting in the stands. His hand will be up very strongly every week and Nicks has a team in a performance trough with a tough run ahead. Nicks might know Tex needs to be managed but he's unlikely to have the strength to make that call whilst Tex is saying he's right to go. Do you travel to Perth for a certain belting following 8 and 6 touches the last two weeks which followed 2 or 3 second half disappearing acts? If he's not managed this week, he won't be missing a game until he's incapable of running at all.

Funny thing is that playing Dmac last week can be rationalised if you accept the one KPD structure is right given the injuries and Jones only just starting his half back experiment. There's no way to rationalise playing a clearly struggling physically Tex.

We’ve got a 6 day break coming off a Perth trip coming up. Perfect time to rest Tex.

They’re trying to blame delivery for his poor form, which is no doubt part of it, but a player of his caliber should be able to find other ways to get involved. It would be interesting to see his GPS numbers/running patterns and whether there’s been a drop off or change.

The only time he did get involved was to snatch the ball out of a team mate's hands (and then he still fumbled it over the boundary line anyway).

Between him and ROB we had two less players on the field all night.

Give him the next couple of weeks off to get that calf right.

Could coincide with Fog coming in too. Only one way to find out

Why would we shuffle around our future forwards to accommodate a player that's very clearly on his last legs. What's happening right now was totally foreseeable but far too many just assumed his body would continue to hold up as the grind wore on. As has been posted before, Thommo was the precedent. Look at his first 6 weeks compared to the rest of the season. Round 19 an outlier with a good performance as well in round 21 following the bye. And the touches don't even tell the whole story, his inability to hold onto the pill and take on an opponent before giving off totally evaporated. So the 20 he was getting were of almost no use. Tex too has ceased holding onto the ball which he was doing early when his body was fresh. It's a dead seto giveaway that there's no confidence in the body.

Yes.

Forward line was Tex and Walker plus Murphy, Betts and Lynch plus Milera and Knight playing mid-forward

For some reason we've deviated from a winning formula at the start of the season of Tex + 1 other tall and Lynch, and now we've crowded the forward line with 4 talls and have started kicking long to a contested mark (Tex & Fog not their strong suit in general to contest, they're more lead up forwards, and then we have Himmelberg & Frampton who just can't mark it in general).

Give him a rest and the forward line becomes:-

Rowe. Thilthorpe. Berry

Fogarty. Himmelberg. ?Sloane

Himmelberg another chance to make an impact.
Decent forward line.

I assume Sloane is "resting mid".

I said a week ago that helping him get the Coleman medal would be a good end to his career. And some positivity around the club.

He ain't going to win it being ground into dirt.

Will be stupid to send him to Perth.

Nup... himmelbergs had enough chances. 5 years on the list. Cant mark and cant kick with anthing near resembling consistancy.

Missing from 30 out nearly straight infront is just draining on the entire teams momentum.. and himm does it week in week out.

Time to move on from himm and Frampton. Seen enough to know both arent worth it.

TT is the future.. team him up with Fog.. and maybe look at encouraging Callum Coleman Jones home..

ROB is a worry.. maybe last year was an outlier.. he’s pretty much been terrible all year.

So tex had a calf issue a couple of weeks ago.. blew up at training.. he’s been poor ever since. Sure the delivery to him has been ordinary but he looks to have lost his early season form and freshness..

Taking him to Perth to play on the hard Optus surface and flying him there and back can only make things worse.

Time to rest him..

Sam Weideman at Melbourne can't get a game with McDonald taking his game to a new level. Would be worthwhile speaking to him. Would be a good combo with Thilthorpe. We definitely have the salary and instead of signing up Walker for another year we should be looking at the next 5-10 years. Melbourne also has Jackson and Brown who they played over him on the weekend. At 23 he is the type of player and age that our list lacks. Himmelberg and Frampton will be delisted or traded as soon as they are OOC imo. If Fogarty asked for a trade end of the year we will definitely need to trade in a forward.

I think it is perfect timing to give him a rest this week. We are no chance to win anyway so let him stay at home to get his body right. Gives us a good chance to have Fog and Thilthorpe play together as the key forwards too.

Agree with all the comments here, we get an insight into our triple towers of TT,Berg and Fog.

This is "going" to be the future in 2 years time (assuming we dont trade out), so its not a bad test, not to mention Eagles are still missing key defenders.

Lets be honest, the AFC only knows one way. Stupidity. Tex will play.

Your right they will play him even if they have to wheel him out in a wheelchair. It's a smart strategy for pick 2 but it's not developing our list. Thilthorpe is the only certainty out of TT, Berg, Fog that will make it imo. Berg is not the answer and should be moved out with Frampton asap. Hopefully Fog locks down a position but that's no certainty. We should be scouting the league to trade in a young KPF who is looking for more opportunity end of the year. As mentioned above Weideman must be disenfranchised with his lack of game time at Melbourne and should be our first port of call.

Even if Fog takes his game to a new level and locks down a forward spot we will need backup if Thilthorpe or Fogarty are injured. Frampton and Himmelberg have had numerous opportunities over a number of years. We don't need list cloggers anymore.

Berg has been rubbish whilst playing on the 2nd defender, tex goes out and he gets the best defender, is that going to improve? I'm not big on resting Tex, if he is injured then he shouldn't play, if he is fit he should play given no one has put pressure on his position in the team for about 10 years. These players need to earn their spots not be given a run so tex can rest.

Im not saying Berg is great, in fact I dont see him as a part of our future, truth be told, but he did ok initially taking Allir deep I50 and not allowing him to intercept in the first half.

Still think the only two pieces of our forward line future is set, TT and Fog.

You and Bearded Clam are going to have to eventually come to terms with the fact that Fog won't make it. If Big Footy boards are anything to go by his departure come the end of the year could be the melt to end all melts. The MELTENING.

There's a reason we're trying to ADD versatility to his game. It's because he doesn't have any.

I noticed that too, in the 2nd half when the damage was done. Nothing to suggest that was driven by him though. Ideally our forwards should be doing more than just keeping a defender out of the game. The structure was wrong on the weekend, not sure taking Tex out who is capable and proven that this year is a better plan than dropping berg.

This thread is ridiculous. The last 2 weeks we have been beaten by 49 + 67 points. Tex has not played well, is he the reason we haven't played well or is the team the reason he hasn't played well? I have a pretty sure thought it is due to the way we are playing. This year he has kicked 5,6,6,3,2,3,2 and 0 on the weekend. So apart front he weekend he has kicked at least 2 goals and averages 3.85 goals prior to the weekend. Even if you add the weekend in he averages 3.37 goals. We are a bottom 4 side and he is ranked elite for goals and we should drop him? WTAF. If that's not enough for you he is also rated elite in the following:
* Shots at goal
*Goal assists
*Score involvements
*Score launches
*tackles i50
*metres gained

Dont know about gps but you can see his running is laboured and has been for a few weeks now.
Should just give the kid a rest.
