Has to come down to this for the second ruck/forward role - forward line has looked somewhat functional with Walker, Gunston and Hendo running around through there. Tippett is only gonna make this better

Maric actually did some good things today, but I'd still rather Tippett playing that role.

I'd continue to play Maric in his current role with Tippo out. Let his value improve and offload him in the offseason, Port might even have to trade for him because there may be number of rucks on the market available to them. Smack is probably a better long term option to try for that 2nd ruck/fwd role. Kudos on a reasonable game today though.
Tippett is in our top 5 best players, but our forwardline looks better without him in it. That's not his fault (although he does have a habit of spoiling his teammates,) but we seem so much more likely to look for the best option when he's not there to bomb it on top of. Two of our three highest scores this year came from the two games Kurt has missed, and the other was against the Gold Coast, who don't have anyone strong enough to go with him. He's in our best 22 no doubt, but if he spent the rest of the year out of the side, so we could hopefully continue to learn to hit leading/free players, it may be more beneficial to us in the long term.
Maric played okay today, and wow did we look better with Walker as the main man up forward.
Ideally you would want Tippett up forward, but maybe a bit higher up the ground, playing the link ruckman? He can rest up forward which is more than handy option to have.

That's how i see it also.
Absolutely credit where it is due, Maric played well today (admittedly against the work ruck division and defence in the league). Glad his trade value is building
And certainly played better than any of Moran's games this season (given Moran hit the post multiple times instead of goaling).
Have to say though, based on the structure we saw today it probably should be Tippett for Maric once fit.
Maric was bloody good today I thought, but Tippett is straight back in everyday of the week. However I heard McDermott say on 5AA after the game that Tipp's hammy is worse than the club is letting on, and that we should rest him up for the rest of the season.
Maric is badly under-rated at times, was very good today.

If there was room for Moran with Tippett in, then there is for Maric instead.
no room for Moran full stop. i'd rather play Tip as backup ruck than Moran.
I don't mean to be a prick, but it offends me when I see Moran out there.
Maric is a competitor, sure, he isn't a star, but even today, there were a couple of times where he forced a turnover or advantage to us just by his sheer effort - chasing players half his size, he just seems to stay close enough to put them under the pump.

Kym Dillon suggested Tippetts hammy is worse than we are letting on and might not play again this year.

As I mentioned in another thread, Tippett would have had a field day because Bickley actually played 6 forwards. Maric should play as 2nd ruck if/when Tippett returns, But the opposition tonight was poor, Lets see how he goes against more competent teams.

reasonable game by thr big fella tonight. Beautiful snap from tex's contested ball win and class handball. Like that we had two decent rucks too, if our forward line can fit them in keep playing 2 genuine rucks imo.
Anyway, clean slates all round. Hendo marred his alittle already but maybe you can give pets one?

Two specialised ruckman should be played every week, Maric gives you a contest every time.
Tippett if he returns this year should be tried at centre half forward,Tex just has a full forward mentality loves kicking goals and is prepared to at least fend off or weave in traffic.

I've congratulated Maric on his game but he's had good games before in his career...but games like this are still the exception than the rule. Put some decent opposition against him (ie not the bottom side with baby rucks and defenders), he'll lose confidence again, and we will be back where we started from.

I agree with everyone though saying 'if there was room for Moran, there is room for Maric'. I said as much before this week saying I'd totally get it if Moran was dropped for Walker (before we knew about Tip's injury).
I get howled down mentioning Tippett should be higher up the ground with Walker at full forward. Mabey some people may agree now. Tippett would be great around CHF. Tips would provide an avenue to goal without being a focal popint where we just bomb it in to him.
