He got payed a huge amount for it this year, something like 1.7 Million, the next year will be less and be somewhere like 1.5 then the remainder of the years in his contract will be something like 750 grand, payed most at the font because we needed to each the 95% of the cap. most on here hear this and either don't get it or just are to stupid to want to understand"How much did that Boyd contract cost?"
"Million bucks a year"
"Just paid for itself"
Wrong wrong, it was to build up his tank and better his awareness for when he becomes the big full time forward.A lot of credit for Boyd's form has to go to Beveridge who eased the pressure on him by using him mainly as a ruckman and utility.
That's not to say Tom doesn't deserve credit for his resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity.

That's one word to describe it...You seem like a fun guy.
Morris's takle hasnt got enough air time IMO.Yeah it's the best commentary I have ever heard. So good. BT is a legend and I will fight anyone who doesn't agree with me![]()
Have said since we landed him that although they will be different types of forwards, Boyd has more ceiling, we Dogs people laughed at the other supporters that laughed at him and called him spud, potato etc.I still rate Hogan as the better prospect (among a few others) but one thing Boyd has that Hogan doesn't is that penetration on his kick. He's a legit threat from 60m, Hogan struggles to kick 45m.
Big forwards take time, he's a stud.
8 marks.
What would he be worth on the open market now, after a huge finals series and a dominant, top 3 on ground Grand Final win?
Not $7m over 7 years. The Dogs overpaid and he's a dud. Etc.
In reality he would've been offered $6-800k over at least 5 years at the end of last year.
That doesn't answer the question, its not the end of last year.
Funnily enough, he was still on his draft contract in 2015, so was paid the same amount as any other #1 pick in their second year. Seriously, if you're gonna harp on about something, at least get your facts straight!Averaged out across the reported deal, he was overpaid in those years?
Boyd also has the ability to play ruck, something Jesse hasn't done much, if at all.I still rate Hogan as the better prospect (among a few others) but one thing Boyd has that Hogan doesn't is that penetration on his kick. He's a legit threat from 60m, Hogan struggles to kick 45m.

Really! That's why you are about to sign Travis Cloke as your "big full time forward" for the next two years.Wrong wrong, it was to build up his tank and better his awareness for when he becomes the big full time forward.
Err, we are offering Collingwood a pick in the 70s for Cloke.Really! That's why you are about to sign Travis Cloke as your "big full time forward" for the next two years.
You are wrong, wrong. The primary reason for the move was to release the pressure on him as the key forward and in so doing build his confidence. Building his tank and the need for a mobile ruckman were other considerations.
Bevo demands flexibility from all of his players - it is a trait that comes straight from the Hawthorn playbook. It had nothing to do with releasing the pressure on him as he pretty much started playing stints in the ruck in pre-season 2015 as a 19yo.Really! That's why you are about to sign Travis Cloke as your "big full time forward" for the next two years.

A ruckman who can also get dangerous up forward and hit the scoreboard is a precious commodity in the modern game - I would be stoked if what he produced on Saturday was the blueprint for the rest of his career. Ottens is a nice comparison, and he was similarly lambasted early in his career but became extremely valuable as a quality stoppage and around the ground ruck with lesser stints up forward.Boyd sees himself more as a ruckman than a forward. Found it strange when he said it but after the last couple of months I can see why he thinks that.
Not sure why Doggies fans get precious over that issue too.
