Tom Boyd

Likelihood of Tom playing against the Swans? From an outsider's point of view, it's hard to see both of him and Redpath playing in the same forward 50 given how important forward pressure is in the modern game.

May come in for Roughead or Campbell.

You expect a #1 draft pick to carve up the VFL, but sadly was goalless the other week with 6 touches

He kicked 3 on the weekend in his 3rd game back from a shoulder injury?

A
Would both consider themselves very stiff getting dropped for him I'd imagine...good problem to have though.
Agree none of them are going to tear it up and Boyd will never live up to the price tag but great depth that could be used at the trade table .

To be fair the effects of his salary won't be fully known until the Bulldogs are in a situation that it impacts. Will that situation happen? Who knows, seems like they've done well signing up their current players so far.

A chance - they desperately needed someone to force a contest last week against us. They bombed it in and our talls had some good times.

Your talls had a glorified training run, pretty sure I saw Harry Taylor giggling to himself a couple of times as the ball was mid-flight.

I think Boyd's issue in terms of getting back in the team is that, at this stage of his career he's not a number 1 key forward, nor is he a number 1 ruckman. So the only guy I think he's competing with is Campbell.

Even if he was one of those, you couldn't drop Redpath at the moment, and nor could you drop Roughead. Having watched a lot of the Dogs this season, I'm becoming a big fan of what Roughead - in having a ruckman who can go back and play a key defensive post, the Dogs have someone who is completely unique across the league.

And who really cares about what he's getting paid? It's not like the dogs are losing other players due to a salary cap squeeze - on the contrary, they were signing them all up over the offseason. His pay packet should only become an issue if it results in a Dahlhaus, Daniels, Adams etc leaving because they can't afford him AND if Boyd still isn't commanding a spot in the team by then.

Boyd will be influencial once fit again

He's never been influential when fit, so why would he be when he returns?

It depends on what you deem is influential.. At his stage of development if he can simply compete in the air and deny the opposition intercept marks then he's having an influence.. We have been horrible in this area against the top teams.

because he is 21 years old in only his 3rd season of afl. and when he does start dominating games people like you who know nothing and have never played a game in their life before at any level will finally shut and find someone else to bag.

His signing played a massive part in the Dogs turning their culture around and refusing to be taken advantage of. I'd argue its a big part of why they've turned it around so well the last 1.5 years. As a player, I don't think he'll be much good. Lacks the contested appetite. Would be surprised if he was best 22 this year.

Not 21 for a couple of months. He'll improve. Just needs to get fitter

I'd put that turn around more due to the coach.

So as a high profile key forward recruit his best asset is spoiling defenders?

Should have had a go at Patton.

Boyd and Patton both average 10 touches and a goal this season.

Patton is 23 with a bad knee. Boyd is 20. I'm happy to stick with Tom

Yes but he's back now and playing in a side better than yours (opinion) right now while Tom is being an average VFL footballer.

Different game plans ... Redpath would be keeping out Patton as well if he was a Dog
