Yes, but now it's officially in the open. Is he now convinced that the trade will get done, or is he trying to pressure the Swans?
A player who is contracted for another 4 years at the club his two Grand Fathers played for, won't just burn that club so laugh all you like. If it's not an established player we are after then it is premium picks to help us land our two academy boys next year. If pick 9 gets us a player that fills a need from another club, then we will take that plus something for next year to help land the two academy guns.

They were saying on trade radio that his GF is from Melbourne. if he's moving back because of the misses than Sydney should hold him to his contract.
Kind of feels a little over, but could be based on a perceived weaker draft this year.
And the Blues having invested heavily in youth already.

They were together when he signed the four year contract.
I'd be miffed if we gave up a player contracted for four years that nobody else initially wanted because he and his girlfriend couldn't communicate about where their future lies.
If Papley does end up moving what happens with the contract do Sydney terminate it or Carlton just take his 4 year contract?

In hindsight, Cameron was worth more than pick 12. In hindsight, he was worth more than pick 8 IMO.
Papley is at the same age Cameron was when he got traded, and comfortably ahead of where Cameron was in most stats at the same time. Cameron also nearly got dropped on a few occasions in 2017. Papley was one of our best players. Cameron had 1 year left on his contract. Papley has 4.

He's contracted with an extension clause so he's got nothing to pressure the Swans about. It's all hearsay and media guff but the underlying story seems to be his girlfriend wants him to move to Victoria. I think he's happy enough at the Swans but a move to Carlton makes his girlfriend happy and he can negotiate a big fat paycheck as well.

The extension clause is irrelevant. AFL rules state that both parties need to approve before an contract extension occurs.
Regardless he's still contracted for at least two years so the Swans hold all the cards if they want to keep him.
Carlton went early on drafting their KPP’s and left the small forwards to later ... for a reason.
This isn’t going to happen, so not even worth considering.

Carlton held out on the Gibbs trade, they shouldn’t expect Sydney to just roll over, can see this one dragging out. Sydney can get daniher without the blues pick so there’s no real need to let him go. If they do it seems like a stupid decision for a rebuilding club to let go one of their best young players. There’s every chance pick 9 doesn’t end up as good as papley, why take the risk?

If Carlton supporters can't see what's going on here, then you will be disappointed when
a) Papley arives to your club but you give us a premium trade back

b) Papley just stays a Swan for two years.

Beatson has gone on record saying we don't think it's a strong draft.the premium being pick 9
Pick 9 in 2020 draft is like pick 30 in the 2019 draft.

Pick 9 is over the odds for Papley I reckon. Hes FP for gawd sake, albeit a pretty promising one.
Surely Sydney wont hold out for even more. good FPs are pretty easy to find. We seem to shed a couple of good ones every year.
