I wouldnt.
I'd delist list cloggers Greenwood, Pearce and Howard.... well before Tutt.

Barring a miracle, I reckon Boyd will retire after next year, Morris after 2015 and Murphy after 2016. I remember Murph saying on Fox that he has full intentions of playing another 3 years after this one (lighter build will help that). So we will lose a more experience again after 2014 in Boyd and Gia. It will be sad final Home game v the Giants if they do. :(

.

You shut your mouth about Pearce! I reckon Pearce has got this year as another grace period, as long as he shows some improvement, he played some great footy at Willi this year. But he hasn't been here for long either.

Agreed with the rest of your points though, we'll have enough guys to delist without needing to move on Tutt.

I've seen Pearce play a hand-full of OK games this year live and he is young so I'm prepared to cut him slack for 2014, but right now I see him as one our list cloggers (2nd or 3rd in line). We don't have many but currently but he is one. Every club has them. Some more than others.

Fair enough. I think we just differ semantically; my definition of a list clogger is someone who has had every opportunity to show what they're made of, and you can almost conclusively say that they'll never get anywhere. I would describe Howard and Greenwood as list cloggers, personally, but past that I'm not sure I see any on our list. Players who probably won't ever make it, yes, but not many that I'd be happy saying, "I'll bet my house that they don't get anywhere," about. Vez and Markovic were list cloggers in my view, because they had opportunities and just couldn't show much.

Pearce goes good. Book it. Will play more games for us that Tutt. Book that too.

Howard is likely a delist next year. I get it. I have more hope for him that Tutt though as I've seen him show genuine composure out on the footy field (mainly at vfl level) which I've never seen from Tutt. I keep coming back to Howard's early form with Willi when id consistently watch him dance around opponents and deliver with precision. He was calm from the last line of defence and set up attacks very well. He kicked out extremely well also. I know that's a while ago and he's been poor recently and again, I acknowledge he's a likely delist at the end of next season, but if his body is right and his confidence rises, I like him more that Tutt. I just think Tutt is fundamentally flawed in a way that he can't overcome.

Can those that watch the Willi games give their thoughts on Greenwood and what Macca must see in him to retain him in 2014? I don't watch enough games to have an informed opinion but I am surprised he has been retained.

I know that black pup was a big fan last year and he goes to most Willi games. Would be interested to see if he agrees with Greenwood's retention.

What position do envisage Pearce playing?
Nick smith type role DR. Very reliable defender but also has really nice vision with the footy and uses it well. Kind of guy you trust to take care of business. Like him a lot.

Sit back with a couple of cold ones and rewind to his last 3-4 games this year. Plenty to like. Some good decision making, taking the game on, can kick ... what if he plays 200?

Sorry Bazza , but were you watching the same games as the rest of us ?
If he plays 200 games we are in for some bleak years.

Interesting, thanks. Hope you are right.

Could form a good partnership down there with JJ and Darley.

If Tutt plays 100 games for us, I'll shout the entire BigFooty family a night on the gas. I hope it happens, but I'll stake my footy reputation on him not making it.

Ok rep gone he has made it playing afl and backed by the coach

Clearly I was watching the same games that the coach was.

Fair enough Bazza , but are you telling me if we had a full list of players to pick from, he wuld have played as many games ? A lot also was just as the sub.
Dont know how many Willy games you saw , but he wasn't exactly sceaming out to be picked.

True, but I think he was working on certain defensive aspects of his game (as stated in frequent reports). He did kick 5 in one of the finals.

As all on here have already guessed I'm not a fan , but they are only opinions and they count for jack.
But he is a bulldog player, so I am hoping I am totally wrong about him and others for that matter.
I think we will all agree for the coming year he needs to take some massive steps forward !

D. R., Pearce could play either as a HBF, or BP. I think the biggest problems for him will come not from any lack of ability,
but rather from lack of opportunity. With Darley coming on board, Pruden, Wood, JJ and Picken, plus possibly Higgins all
vying for 2-3 small backs positions, forcing his way in back there will not be easy.

Tutt has the chance to develop towards filling the Gia role, but perhaps playing a little further from goal, in order to best
utilise his pace. If BMac. can duplicate what he seems to have done with Grant with Tutt, he will be every chance. If it happens
we could have a seriously quick group down in the F50.
In the latter part of season 2012 Greenwood really began to show considerable development, and a bit of what BMac had promised
from him in his introduction at the East/West day when he arrived. However, from the 2012 VFL last final, and through season 2013
he appeared to go backwards [ no idea why]. Keeping him on suggests to me that the coaches have a better idea as to what went
wrong for Greeny in 2013 than we do, and I guess feel they can rectify the problem/s.

But I am darned if I can understand the retention of Howard at the expense of either or both of Crossy and or Dylan A. For mine
he has more weaknesses than both of them combined, and at his very best he is not half the player either of them were. I just do
not get his retention.

It's because Howard is younger. The other 2 are not going to get better. Howard might.

Tutt Tutt ;)

Thanks. Agree there will be great competition between those smaller defenders + Goodes.

Will be interesting to see how the Footscray VFL side is used to develop these young players.

Another interesting point re postions like HBF, BP, HHF and FP is that ideally all those positions need to be able to play in the midfield, with the reduced rotations next year. Darley, Picken and maybe Pruden may have an edge there.

Agreed!

I honestly just don't see what position Greenwood would be playing if he made it, like he's an inside mid right? (I've seen hardly any of him at all tbh) and even if he becomes a solid player which you'd think is about the best he will get, he wont be getting in over Libba, Wallis, Smith, etc. And from what I've seen I can't really see him playing any other positions. Might be a great kid and all that but I just think I'd rather that rookie spot to be used on a developing ruck or something.

Sorry TeKel, but given the differential in abilities between the three, I would have thought youth would hardly be sufficient reason for this decision.
I have seen plenty of Howard at Willi., and for mine he just does not show enough of anything, except perhaps his youth.
Hope I am wrong for his and our sakes, but he just looks like a clogger to me.

Ha, yeah D.R., I knew I was forgetting someone when I typed that list. Goodsy as well.

I too am really looking forward to watching the development work of all the players through the Footscray games, just like old times watching
the U19's and ressies at the W. Oval. But instead of the short walk to the ground each weekend that it was as a kid, these days it is a rather long drive.
Oh well.

Now re rotating through the midfield, I think both Wood and JJ could run out on the wings to good effect from time to time. In fact I prefer the idea of Wood as a winger rather than a HB anyway.
