Geelong kept changing the goal posts.

Originally they wanted a top 10 draft pick. We tried negotiating a 3 way trade involving Sydney to get their pick 12/13 whatever it was but Geelong said no to that.

We then offered out 2 second round picks as a counter they then said they wanted both of our second rounders last year and our second rounder this year.

On the last day we caved and offered our 2 second rounders last year and our second rounder this year with a third coming back our way.

They then asked for our 2 second rounders last year and our first rounder this year with their third coming back at which point we told them to (politely) **** off.

We went through every possible way we could to appease them and get the trade over the line, they just wanted to be seen to be doing the right thing for two reasons.

1. So they had an extra year to get Tim and the family to stay long term and get the second year out of him at rookie payments.
2. So that he didn't just sit out of footy for the year in Perth due to "family reasons/mental health/etc. etc. etc.

Geelong were the worlds biggest campaigners to deal with ever and we have previously had some pretty hard dealings with port and carlton in particular. Geelong historically have a good trading record and we are very highly regarded in getting a fair deal done as quickly as possible, paying up and even potentially paying overs to make sure it works for all parties.

It's why we've had the sort of trade deals with have with Sydney, Gold Coast, The Dogs, Saints and even Geelong in regards to Vardy in the past. If we had acted the way geelong did in the last trade period the media would still be talking about the disgrace it was now. It would have been an ongoing story reaching the heights of the shit they've dredged up in regards to our 2006 premiership group.

Well accourding to Cats fans who are rewriting history we are the bad guys not offering 3 2nds with a 3rd coming back.

How does anyone actually know what was offered / asked / rejected?

Legend has it, he kicked 7 goals as a 12 year old in the WAFL grand final.

Look it up.
The grand final was actually played on coniglios birthday where he was born at 340pm .

So technically he kicked two goals as a 15 year old to set up the game the came out after half time ( where they had birthday cake ) and won it off his own boot with two more goals at age 16 .

I’m happy the AFL are going to include records from the 1870-1897 seasons going forward, so that Cogs’ incredible 1886 Grand Final heroics as a glint in the glint in the glint of his great grandad’s eye can finally be recognised.

it'll be a soilfest of the ages.

cogs please come so we can soil

Pfft .......... be just another night , like all the others, up here at the Old Peoples home where us Old Farts reside .

All you young dudes should come over and party at our place if we get Cogs & TK ...... we do soiled like no others can... its our speciality.

Vishy might just try his luck with a low milage Granny, I am sure his Crushed Mulberry & Vodka Concoctions will go down a treat with the ladies, excellent ratio of women to men also.

I might even be able to get the Night sponsored by "Geriatric Dippers R US".

So what is the news?

He'll probably stay at GWS but could conceivably leave for WA or Vic. FMD, who knew?

What I'd really like to know is whether WC are ruthless enough to try to land Kelly and Coniglio. Setting aside the question of whether they'd want to come, could we get the deals done? Would we be willing to tip out 3 or 4 veterans to stump up the cash? I hope so but doubt it.

If Coniglio wants the big money, Carlton or St Kilda have it to spare. He'd be well paid at WC, Geelong or Hawthorn but I reckon he stays at GWS on $6 million for 5 years. Can he get that elsewhere without playing for a battler?

I just cant see it happening unless we lose NicNat or someone like that. Suspect we might have an allowance in our cap for Kelly but there is no way we have a spare 800k - 1 million for Coniglio as well.

Basically 1.8 million per year for both. Pay cuts for a few and bye bye Masten and Schofield. Still short, I reckon. Particularly if we've resigned Sheppard and are trying to resign Darling.

St Kilda supposedly being out is news considering they were just recently strongly linked to him.

Other than that i just thought an article linking us to one of the biggest FAs may be relevant to post in this thread...... apologies it didn't cover all your pressing questions

Meh. Status quo.

When you say an article "linking us to Coniglio", we're talking about an unsourced, unverifiable 2-minute job on SEN that was dashed off by the work experience kid, transcribing something Sam McClure said on air. Yeah wow, we were "linked to Coniglio".

You're right. He's the #1 free agent on the market. Presumably that means we're 3 months away from real information, unless he signs on at GWS before that.
