Josh Kelly has signed for another 2 years. The AFL.com report is that it was for less money than North, St Kilda and Carlton were offering. I can't see these club at the pointy end in the next 3 years so smart decision.

How will this impact Coniglio? At least they have used up a fair amount of their salary cap. Kelly is a million dollar man and so GWS will have less to throw at Cogs.

Cogs will feel he is a $1 mln man and I would agree.

I feel like we might have jumped a little early committing to JK and Hurn for another 2 years. Hopefully there it is for less guaranteed money and more on KPI's and 1st team performances.

The options then for players on decent coin would be Masten, Schofield and Jetta. If we had to delist all three for Cogs, no drama.

Somewhat harsh on the Skipper! Coming off AA season in 2018 and would be in best 3 for us in games played this year.

Both Hurn and JK turn 32 this year and the experience has been that interstate/long haul big guys come to a quick end. As I stated, I hope they are performance based with low guaranteed money. Not sure what was requested - I was a little surprised when it was announced that was all.

The extension was prior to the season starting hence my comment 2 more years which was for 2019 and 2020. Clumsy wording as I see you could interpret it as an additional 2 years.

I can see Schofield retiring. If we extend Rotham he is the one who should be playing as third tall behind Gov and Barrass. Simply put, I can't see Schofield putting himself through another pre-season at his age with little chance of playing a decent number of games. And I think Schoey is smart enough to see the future in this regard and is preparing himself for retirement better than most.

Masten may get another year. But again, he is only going one way regarding age and performance. Smith can take his running role and with Waterman, OAllen and Petrucelle (future wing) all fighting for the LeCras (and currently Rioli) spots, things will get very tight when Willie returns. With JK, Darling, Brander, Vardy, OAllen, Waterman, Cripps, Rioli, Ryan, Petrucelle, Cameron and Gaff looking to play forward/wing, I can't see a place for him going forward.

Jetta is an interesting one. Age kills speed and older fast players tend to get more injuries than older nuggetty types. Injuries and motivation may be the determinates for Jetta.

Personally, I wouldn't be sorry to see all three choose to retire, as we need to keep the list circulating and I don't want to see us in the situation of carrying 5-6 old guys for a few more years and then have them all retiring at once.

All comes down to their fitness. Do they have enough left in them to get fit enough to contribute at AFL standard.

I would say not likely for Schofield, Jetta I would say yes but for 12 games of top quality output not grinding out 22 + games and Masten possibly but only as a depth Beagle and not a regular best 22.

Would be right though that the two most likely to come to us (Kelly extremely unlikely but still more likely than a Shiel or Treloar due to his links to WA), end up re-signing for their entire careers and literally everyone else jumps ship

Kennendy on a bad day can still kick 3 goals without you noticing . He also draws the best defender .
