The Freo Ryan Murphy retired from WAFL footy 4-5 years ago. There's another Ryan Murphy playing for Claremont so it could be him.

He is currently playing Ammos for Trinity Aquinas A Grade. He is still v good at that level but I can't believe he actually nominated for an AFL list???

I have friends that play A-Grade and the step down from WAFL training is huge. I can't see an A-Grade player coming into the AFL mid season and having any impact at all.

As it stands Geelong have a full list and no players likely to be mothballed for the year that they can put on the LTI list, so like us they’re very unlikely to participate

This.

Keys Geelong have been strong critics of the mid season draft and have been vocal in expressing their concerns as to its existence.
Their stand is that all recruiting / drafting should be done after seasons not mid season.
So love them or hate them Geelong generally stand by their principles, so I would be staggered if they changed their tune now.

They IMO will pass on participation in the draft next week.

Cockatoo made of tissue paper. Listed as indefinite.

On a side note Grundy at Swans just announced his retirement, coincidence? Not likely.

It would be stunning if the Cats picked Pickett for a six months rookie deal. Father of ?? to relocate across the country etc. But the Cats have proved that they don't think about that too much.

Freo however????

Thoughts on Pickett as a top up mid season for say Edwards who looks to be out for 10 weeks?

Wouldn’t be against that idea as I see some upside in Pickett, plus the Tim Kelly mateship thing could be a bonus going forward. That said I am not 100% sure of his health status at the moment.

But to be honest I would much prefer Jye Bolton ...... but that won’t happen because, I have been told that our recruiting team, think he has a bit to much FIGJAM about him.

In reality as far as football production and talent goes, he hands down , is the best mid in the WAFL and has been so for three years now.
He is a much better player than MAllen , Brayshaw and “dodgy ball drop” Ainsworth.
He is plug in ready and IMO would aquit himself well at the next level.

But then again that’s just my opinion and , opinions are like aresholes .... everyone’s got one.

FFS Taberner now on the long term injury list, so Fre0 will snag Pickett.

The Chevrons are looking seriously at Declan Mountford, could be wrong but that’s my mail.

Methinks we will see a spike in mid-season retirements which coincidentally will occur prior to mid-year draft
Been thinking the same.
This whole thing really was predictable.

Grigg retires just before the MSD.
Heath Grundy retires just before the MSD.
Tabener goes on the LTI list just before the MSD.

Any more to come?

Oh thank god! For a second I thought they were actually going to draft a decent player!

For what it’s worth Mountford has had a pretty good season back at Claremont and I know some recruiting guys in Melbourne that thought he was unlucky to have been cut by North.

( but then again they probably needed to free up list spots going forward for Gaff, De Goey, Martin ,Kelly, ... otherwise known as the could have been champions :p )

I am not saying that Mountford is a world beater , but there are many players on AFL lists that are worse than him.

I actually agree that Mountford had a few decent games for North. Freo definitely need a ruck, might not be a bad choice.

Did you hear a whisper though? Then we'll know it's legit.

Yes I did but it was very faint.

But then again as an old girlfriend of mine once said "some whispers are stronger than others".

Fisher from our Beagles team is straight out of Kingsley B GRADE ammo's and he's easily been one of our better players in the WAFL.

Doubt the bloke would disgrace himself at AFL level either.

When did he sign up? There are plenty of guys outside the WAFL who are WAFL quality, but in the lower grades you can train once or twice a week and still go out on the beers and get by on talent. The professionalism goes up a cog to the WAFL and then up another cog to the WAFL.

Tom Stewart of Geelong was playing for South Barwon in the Geelong Footy League in 2015. If Geelong had just drafted him straight out the GFL in a mid season draft I doubt he would've had an immediate impact. If Jeremy McGovern wasn't in an environment that forced him to do 3km time trials and skin fold tests he'd probably be dominating country footy somewhere weighing 120kg and running 2km a game.
