Don't forget we could only receive max 5 WA players who were currently playing in VFL, and no more than 1 from each club. North Melbourne had a chunk of WA players and we could only get 1 (Glendinning)

How can a club be awarded a zone and on the same day sign up players as academy players for the draft in a few weeks?

If the player was already signed up and actively being developed no problem.

But its the AFL, they do what they like.

Oh and I will say I suggested some time ago the Suns should align with the NT. Now they have the zone and have already indicated they will be playing away games in Darwin next season with the Dees playing in Alice.

Suns to be re-branded the Northern Suns at some stage was another suggestion I had.

Territory Thunder just folded so just watch all the good younger Thunder lads playing for the Suns in the NEAFL next season too.

Alternatively, do we try and rotate him through the midfield from the HFF and see if he can play that role?

Northern Suns makes sense. NT is way too small to have a stand alone team. A team with no set city that can cover NT and QLD would probably be a good idea. Play at Metricon with a few games in Darwin.

They only stated for next three years in anything I've read, given they're set to get pick 2 and 20 in this draft I'd assume the darwin academy is now live.

Considering what's happening with Rioli, it just shows how much extra benefit there was blooding Cameron this year. Whilst they aren't the same exact type of player they'll fill a similar position on the team sheet.

I was talking about consessions which lasted about 4 years . In 1987 us and brisbane came into the comp and the VFL gave brisbane the first draft as we had a much bigger talent pool in WA .
Consession 1 - We started with an established team
Consession 2 we had WA zone picks
Consession 3 we had pre draft picks for 3 years
Concession 4 we had wafl father/son picks

Add to that the WA country lads that we picked up late as we hid young talent .

By the time our consessions were up we pretty much had a state of origin team

Better than what gold coast got for sure . They are also in an afl wasteland and their academies have produced bugger all compared to our original zone picks .

Then the main difference and the biggest concession is unlike GC we are not owned by the AFL

Thats the big reason we paid such a high price

Yep it's a risk no doubt but I think low risk high reward. He would have to accept base salary.
