Exactly. St. Kilda allegedly offered up a better trade than what this proposed Carlton trade is and Gold Coast flat out rejected it. Why would they then turn around and accept a worse trade?

With Bower's exit that leaves the senior list with 34 players. Tuohy, Curnow and Casboult will all get upgraded you would think and leave us with 3 national draft picks that we have to use. So far that looks like being 11, 37ish, 55ish.

Apparently Bell is staying on the rookie list so an upgrade of picks involving a current player looks unlikely too.

Davies, White, Collins, Ellard, Rowe, Joseph will all have their spots looked at next year.

Because they just won't get it. Stupid ambit claim, but only there because they've had several clubs putting there hand up for him and they want someone to put their best offer forward sooner than later through the trade period, giving them flexibility.

At this stage we have 4 selections in the ND, but that will likely drop to 3 once Curnow is officially promoted.

Rookie List: We currently have Dale, O'Keeffe and Bell on this list allowing us only one selection in the rookie draft. (This is my current understanding)

We can now see just how tight it is on our list and why it may be fair to suggest that we haven't managed areas of it all that well.

We have Joseph, Ellard and Davies contracted so if we need to make room on our list it may yet be at the expense of Collins and Duigan. That's not great management for mine.

It just seems to me that our best bet would be to trade players for picks or an upgrade of picks.

Can someone explain to me when and how a #7 pick who has not set the world on fire in his first couple of seasons is suddenly a super-prospect worthy of 2 x first round picks?

Caddy decides he wants to leave GC. GC should be happy if the can recoup a similar pick to what they used on him.

It's called negotiations If they CONTINUE demanding x2 1st rd picks then I could be concerned, and kinda hope that everyone drops out of the race for him so their bargaining position becomes non-existant and they have to sweeten any deal they make. Also I wonder if Collingwood's "x2 1st rd picks" in #17 and #18 would satisfy the GCS's, it would be a quick way of calling their bluff.

Firstly the job of contract negotiation etc usually falls to General Manager of football operations
Second, when did it become ok to bag departing club legends, sacked or otherwise
And third, when did it also become ok for you to bag listed players, ones that as far as you know are valued by the current coach and could for all you know all play 24 games next season?

You seem quite ok to encourage others to lie (the last one suggesting that a club would betray doctor patient privilege and disclose if a player had failed a medical to just anybody to have it posted in a feral footy forum) yet seem ok to bag out your own to try to justify why the club is not as active in actual trades as much as the liars suggested we would be, so in order to assuage your guilt at believing the liars you bag out existing players.

That does not answer my post at all. Why would GC accept a trade value less than what they have already been offered? Teams are renown for keeping their offer on the table and waiting for the other team to buckle. Case in point, that very same Jacobs trade. Robbo's trade is not as good as what has been already offered therefore if we go with history proving itself we need a better offer than that otherwise we don't get him. Personally, I'd rather hold onto 11 at this point in time.

Would it surprise anyone if the WB and the GWS struck up a deal along the lines of

WB in. #3 and #12


Some are saying that gws should take Plowman at #3 but that is a stretch IMO. If they could trade 3 for 5 and upgrade 12/13 then they could still get the best defender in the draft plus a class mid who would otherwise be gone by the later pick. It would IMO come down to if they rate plowman ,obviously, and if they want balance or an awesome midfield.

Agreed. And this is why MM and co. are in a position where they can't trade/get in playes from FA - simply no list space as Harker said above.

Unless we get an awesome offer from a club for Warnock or Hammer, our list will (like it or not) most likely stay as is until the ND

RE: Jordan Russell. Apparently a deal will be done this week to get him across to Port. Given the Blues have no room to use any expected compo pick (unless 2nd rounder - unlikely) and Port don't want to lose their compo from Pearce/Chaplin, I can see a similar trade to this (below) being done late this week:

Russell & Pick 33 for PA's Pick 28. We get a pick upgrade where we'd previously have got effectively squat & Port get their man and get to keep their compo for losing their FA's...

Get it done boys!

My understanding is that Rookie listed players only have to be retained for 1 year, where players taken in the national draft have to be retained for at least 2.

If I was bell and the club was telling me their hands were tied and they couldn't get me on the list, then we cleared some space and took 4 kids in the draft, the last one probably being a pick in the 70s, and they get two years on the senior list striaght off the bat, I would be cut.

If Carlton misses out on Caddy, they should focus their attention towards George Horlin-Smith from Geelong.

He won the 2012 Norm Goss medal against Port Melbourne but hasn't been able to crack Geelong’s seniors for obvious reasons. He’s a good size for a mid with excellent skills and is very level headed for someone so young.

He would complement the next generation of Carlton midfielders, who will eventually replace the likes of Judd, Carrazzo, Scotland, & Simpson when they retire.

He was taken by Geelong at number 37 in the 2010 national draft. Suffered a shoulder injury in 2011 but is now fit and injury free. Pick 11 is too much and 33 won’t be enough. Perhaps a player and 33 will suffice?
