True...and they say assumption is a mother of all **** ups! :D

It might just be too logical for AFL to consider it.

They thought far enough to say that the compensation pick can be traded but no one knows if they have though which club's placing does the club "link" to.

It would be a bigger joke than the whole not limiting poaching to mature players thing so it wouldn't be surprising. Demetriou would bend over and take it up the clacker to make sure that GWS and GC are raging success stories.

I asked Rendell to clarify this point a couple of weeks ago and he said it was still ambiguous and they were seeking clarification themselves from the AFL. Safe to say the AFL simply didn't consider it.

Pretty sure we have done it with Tippett and also might have done it with Dangerfield. I am certain that both were give 3 year deals straight up which is rare these days.

Just on this Jaeger O'Maera bidding, if we can get the Bock compo pick from Tigers, I would be willing to package both Davis and Bock pick for the #1 pick in the mini draft only. For the #2 pick the Davis compo pick only. Still not convinced that would come within the ball park of what GC are prepared to offer.
I can't remember. I probably should have asked if we have ever given contract extensions to our 1st year players.

On Jaeger O'Maera we aren't going to be able to out bid the Suns with them offering pick 4. We maybe able to out bid Geelong and Western Bulldogs if we get combination right. Melbourne are a smokey in the GWS mini draft bidding if the trade one of the scully compo picks.
Geelong want Crouch.
Not sure who the Doggies want.
Us it's either Kennedy, Toumpas or Grundy. My preference would be Toumpas (reminds me a little of Knights at his best but is a right footer I think) but would be more than happy with Kennedy.

It the next pick after the team that has it so if we traded it to a side that finished bottom they would have pick one and pick two.

I believe this to be the case. As I read it, the picks position depends on the club which activates it, not the club it was originally given to.

Stiffy, what on earth makes you think the AFL would have thought about the eventuality you describe and more to the point, do you think they'd care? They've done everything humanly possible to gift GWS a premiership barring just simply rocking up to Sheedy's doorstep cup in hand!

I know Stabby recently emailed Rendell on this point and the reply was that he didn't know and was following it up with Vlad and his sidekick AA. I wonder whether he's heard anymore. The AFLs media release was certainly ambiguous at best.

I originally thought it was linked to the original club, but then I seem to recall being corrected on the matter last year, I could be wrong though.

Edit: Seems Stabby beat me to it.

Are there any players we can get GWS to prelist for us then trade for a small upgrade?
Players like Templeton, Suckling etc. who we might want, but don't want to run the risk of missing out on. GC were prepared to do it with Mzungu, Faulks, Krakouer and a few others, GWS already have done with Morris and Clarke.

I really we hope we can and do, do this to get Lee Spurr. Im not 100% on the rule but i think it might be possible

Disagree. I think a compo pick (no matter it's form) could be worth more than GCs pick 4. Next years draft is said to be much better than this, chances are even if the pick ended up being 6-8 it could be better than pick 4 this year. It also gives GWS a year to assess their list for any deficiencies, allowing them a chance to rectify this.

We can. Personally I'd love to grab Pfeiffer. I've watched a decent amount of SANFL in the past 4-5 weeks and he's been the one that's stood out to me as being AFL material and one that fits our needs. 23 year old Midfielder, who can also play roles in defense and up forward.

I've always assumed (!) it was tied to the club who exercised it, not the club who originally earned it.

After all this time... he's still 23! Will be interesting to see if he's picked up, especially by us.

Forgot about Pfeiffer. Make it happen :)
Whether we choose to use him in the backline or the midfield, it would be great to get him again.
Talent was never the issue here or at Carlton, looks like he's sorted out the other stuff.

We might also be able to throw in Armstrong to get us over the line as a sweetener, and save the hassle of a separate trade with Sydney.

according to Emma Quayle:

It is understood Melbourne and Adelaide will consider bundling their first-round picks - Nos. 12 and 10 respectively - with their compensation picks.
The clubs would ask for the Giants' pick 14 in return, so that they would effectively lose their compensation pick but slide only a few places down the order in this year's draft.

this to obtain pick 2 in the 17 yo draft. she goes on to say GWS are only looking at trading two of those picks this year (there are four total but they can trade them this year and next).

I wonder if we're going for Kennedy or Crouch?

To me I would be going for Crouch or Toumpas before Kennedy.

The only problem with this is Gold Coast acquired a 1st round compo pick from Geelong last year for pick 15.

Gold Coast can offer pick 4 and a 1st round compo pick. We can offer pick 10 and a 1st round compo pick. Gold Coast would win in this case.

Sneaky gws trying to keep one of these 17 year olds (O'Meara) from the mini draft, that they're not meant to be able to keep..

But GWS has found a possible loophole that could allow it to trade the first selection in next week's mini-draft to one club, then do a separate deal with a third party to get it back, once it is traded on to that second club.

The concessions were introduced with the belief they would help the Giants to lure established players.

What compo pick to GC have? What band and who's.....blank mind.

And yes, sneaky AFL for entertaining this bullshit......it was designed to get mature bodies, that won't happen....and GC and now GWS want what's available....**** OFF< you've got more than enough youth you pricks.

If this unbelievable oversight by the the entire recruiting sections of the AFL is true then wouldn't this mean that our compensation pick would probably end up being worth pick 2 for GWS next year and if this is the case then surely they would be more than happy to give us pick 1 in the mini draft for it. They would then have the first 2 picks in a strong draft next year.

Emma Quayle tweeted me back last night, the compo pick would be based on where the Crows finished.

Believe GC have:

Mid round 1 compo selection traded from Geelong

End of round 1 compo selection traded by Brisbane

Round 2 compo selection traded by Port

Edit: here's a link to something on it

The post i made on the last page could change things massively though..

Gws have found a loophole where they want to trade the number one mini draft pick to a club, then get it back off of the club with another trade..

They are not allowed to keep these 17 year olds in the mini draft but it appears no one has said they cant trade back the pick in the mini draft and then use it themselves..

Which they are trying to do so they can keep O'Meara..

Laughable, all of it..

Is it the same compensation pick as ours through? By that I mean is it pick immediately after your 1st round pick or is it one of those end of 1st round pick?!

The pick that GC received from the Cats is a mid 1st round pick.. To be taken after the non-finalists teams selections..

The Cats kept the pick that will be immediately after their own pick in the year they activate it..

What happens if a team had a end of round compo pick and on trades it then they get another one the same. If it is tied to the original club and they activate them the same year who gets the first pick?
