What about the other people, the millions of humans who have died?
I don't see any caring words for them.

Millions, I hope the figure doesnt get that high.
And yes it has been mentioned about some other Australians that have become victims of this tragedy, the baby taken out of her father's arms, the young boy who had downs syndrome.

But you wont, I wont and next weeks story will overtake these events rapidly as the media look for the next thing to sell papers and keep people watching tv.

For many people here, including myself, who didn't know anyone personally who have been affected by this tragity, he puts a name and a face of a person we 'know' who has been affects. Other stories get to me just as much as his, but because im a football follower and a football player is missing it kinda hit home, but its not saying I only care about him, Im interested in all the aussies and I hope for all the family and friends of the missing that they find their loved ones so they can feel closure.
Whilst I can half understand your viewpoint, I don't really see why life should stop as a result, nor that there would be some weird automatic global enlightenment as a result of a single event. If people do take stock and think about things at such times and realise the bigger picture, then there will be slow changes to the global culture over time.Docker_Brat said:Nail. Head. Hit.
That's why glib comments on internet forums have ********ted me to tears since Bali. It doesn't make a crap load of difference. I doubt anyone who says they are hoping and 'praying' are on currently their knees with their heads bowed.
It'd be fantastic for the families of those missing if more people are found alive, but in reality life is going on for the majority of us as per normal. Seeing the hoards of idiots in Adelaide climbing all over each other at 12:01am for a crappy bargain when the shops opened slammed that one home.
Feel free to buy a stairway to heaven like the clown on the general forum who said he "feels better for it" by giving a couple of dollars. I'll save the respect for the people going up there to actually do something.
Could you please explain why it was that the Northern half of WA was not affected when judging by the map it was just as close to the epicenter as some of the countries that were hit.BRE/\|< said:To be honest, I'm studying to be a Geologist. Happy?

Money is frozen energy. I applaud the guy you're talking about who gave a few bucks. Helping people will make you feel better and you have a right to feel better. Not all of us are in a position to drop everything and fly to the affected countries and help, nor do most of us have the skills to be of relative value. Giving money, is like giving time. Those who give it, have earned some respect.

This is truely a tragedy of epic proportions the extent of which is hard for us to comprehend ,but it is made more tangible when we see a fine young Australian citizen & footballer like Troy Broadbridge is among the victims as far as we know .A future AFL star & already a hero ,i feel for his new wife & family as well as all those connected with the Dees, supporters & players .lets pray he shows up .

I agree.moomba said:To be honest, who gives a f**k if it makes a difference or not, that is not what it is all about. It makes me feel better to express my feelings about the situation, I'm a little sick of these people that think they know better, and they should be able to tell me how to react to any situation. If a heartfelt post about someone praying for another human beings wellbeing doesn't do it for you well then that's fine (I'm not a religious person myself, and it doesn't do a lot for me), but in the long run if it you don't like it that's well and good, the post was never made for your benefit anyway.
FMG! Just got a call from a regular poster.
Very lucky fella indeed, he was watching the cricket upstairs in an Aussie bar about 50 meters from the beach when they heard yelling and started to wonder why all these people were bolting up the street from the beach. Said he looked up to the unbelievable site of a three storey high wall of water coming into the beach. Managed to get up onto the roof of where he was and then saw the carnage unfold. Has a few horrifying stories and paints a grim picture but thankfully he is okay.
Said he has a place to stay and is coping alright, he'd just given blood and mentioned that fresh water was getting low but they were expecting some more to be dropped into the area soon. One rather gruesome detail he mentioned was that there were still bodies washing up all over the beach today (four days later!)

Melbourne Football Club
The players met privately today with Club Chaplain Cameron Butler. Many have just returned from their holiday and were anxious to get together with team-mates and Cameron. Many expressed their distress at the news and were still hopeful that Troy would be found alive and well. The meeting which lasted for more than an hour allowed Cameron and the players to talk about the current situation before returning to training on Monday. There is still no news from Phuket, Trisha remains in hospital and the Broadbridge family hope for good news. Chris Fagan, General Manager, Football Operations said "The most important thing for us as a Club is to support the family. We are a tight knit family who are hoping like hell that one of our own will be returned to us." We will keep members and supporters updated on our website when further information is received
