This is the point.

I guess Geelong were only pumping up his tyres in this article on the B & F because they knew they were going to parcel him up to Adelaide...Yeah, Nah

It wouldn't exactly be hard to dominate in the VFL when you have that bunch of names around you. At Adelaide, he's behind far better prospects and has to work much harder to get the ball.

Dude look at their VFL team

And conversely there are way more AFL listed players running around in opposition teams every week in the VFL, not to mention the number of EX AFL players running around in the non AFL aligned teams in the VFL as compared to the SANFL.

Yeah but he said it wouldn't be that hard to dominate your BnF with those names around you.

Doesn't matter who else is in the VFL when you are Dean Gore. You just need to be better than Michael Luxford to come third when your VFL side is that shite

Blokes like Daniel Menzel, Matthew Stokes and Billy Smedts and other AFL players also played some games that year, I know I watched them.
The guy has gone backwards since joining us I don't care what way you spin it, why I have no idea.

Dude please. He was always steak knives in the truest sense of the term.

Let's not pretend he was ever more than a clever piece of distractive marketing by the AFC. Lose the next Bronlow medalist back to Victoria, rescue a "highly rated" poor SA kid from the clutches of evil.

Luckily most people have short attention spans and 95% of crows fans have already forgotten who Dean Gore even is. He served his purpose.

He might have gone backwards, but he wasn't starting from a particularly high point

Gore was most certainly steak knives in the Danger deal but let's remove that for a second. Let's say that Dean just wanted to come home and there was a late round draft pick in exchange to get him home. Given he was averaging over 20 kicks a game in the VFL and was 3rd in the BnF, we would have thought he had something to offer. Being the top 3 midfielder in the Geelong reserves would have meant he was competing against other AFL listed and ex AFL midfielders and was clearly doing pretty well. Was also highly rated junior and many were saying getting him home was a smart move.

But look at the poor kid now. He hardly gets half of the ball he use to in the VFL, he has lost his pace seemingly, and as time has gone on, has regressed further. How the hell can this happen??

Some questions of the club are needed at the moment with respect to the decline in Gore, the decline in Dear (he was looking pretty good last year), the buggering up of Wigg and inability to improve big O'Brien. We are all saying the cupboard is pretty bare in terms of depth but a lot of this stems from the fact that all the non-regulars have gone backwards.

Younie, O'Keefe and Van Berlo are not helping us it feels

Or Geelong knew all year that danger was going to them and exactly what the deal would be. Who knows, maybe that's even why it got signed off in the first ten minutes of trade fortnight.

So many known unknowns as Rumsfeld would say.

Nothing suss though. I'm sure we are bathed in purity, publicity had nothing to do with it, and we demanded Gore for his obvious gun-ness

I refuse to believe that Geelobg drafted a kid, gave him a contract extension in early 2015 and gave him the ball all the time to average over 20 kicks a game in the VFL so they could offer him to Adelaide for Danger.

What I can believe is that our player development is shite as highlighted in another thread

High finish in bnf in first year for Geelongs reserves, and a contract extension in his first season says Geelong rated him highly.

So either they've had a few shit drafts or Gore has massively regressed since coming here.

He was drafted in 2014 and signed an extension on 31 July 2015

Here is his 2015 form leading up to his contract extension

2015 Season
Played for : Geelong

1 -
2 -
3 VFL Starred with 25 touches. Some chance to debut this week. -
4 VFL Bye. -
5 VFL Had 24 possessions to play a solid role in midfield. -
6 Late withdrawal.
7 Hamstring.
8 Shoulder.
9 Shoulder.
10 Shoulder.
11 Shoulder.
12 Shoulder.
13 Shoulder.
14 Shoulder.

So he was essentially given an extension based on his form in 2 games before missing 10 weeks through injury. Seems to me that his contract extension had little to do with his form, but rather it was just standard fare for draftees (other draftees were also given another year as well)

The fact that Geelong were more than happy to throw him in as steak knives suggests that Geelong didn't rate him anywhere near as high as you're trying to suggest.

So where has his speed gone?

And don't try and tell he never had any because I watched the U18 Championships and it was clearly on display as was his ability being one of SA's better players at the carnival. That speed was also on display at the Draft Combine that year where he ran a 2.90 odd sprint.

And explain to me how as a 17 year old playing for STURT in the SANFL he was clearly playing better football than he is for Adelaide in the 2017 season??

Have any of our 2016 draftees that were higher draft picks [Gallucci, Poholke] had 2 SANFL games where they gathered 24 & 25 possessions let alone that being from only 3 VFL games as you highlight before Gore was re-contracted??

He HAS regressed alarmingly since joining us!

What are the odds Port are right into Daniel.

This has port written all over it, however I wouldn't say no to Daniel if he's going very cheaply. X-factor depth is virtually non existent.

I've got kind of mixed feelings about it. I mean, he's a delisted free agent, and I like free stuff as much as the next guy so if the contract demands aren't over the top I'd consider it. But I don't really know where he fits in the team - he probably doesn't, except as depth. I guess if we get a few injuries he's probably just as good a go-to option as Andy Otten (although not as tall as Otten). But he kicks goals, which is your most basic requirement of a forward. I'm not really sure what else he brings apart from that. At least Otten can play down back, too.

He would add more value to them then getting Watts last year. Though that doesnt say much.
