You don't seem to get it. I'm not saying he has done a good job with the economy. I am simply repeating what a lot of the voters in those areas have said. I have read quite a number of articles and seen some interviews where people in these states, including Ohio, have stated that they like Bush because they feel that as it affects them the economy is not doing too badly. However, they distrust Kerry because he has been flip-flopping on so many issues.

At no stage have I argued that I think Bush has done a good job on the economy or anything even remotely like that. I was simply reporting what I had observed.
No I get what you're saying. I just think you're wrong.

CNN are reporting that Kerry still has a fairly good chance at Ohio, as Dayton and Cincinatti haven't been counted as yet for the most part, and are Democrat heavy areas.

My stats have Kerry leading in California, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and Michigan.

This is an unusual election, possibly the first time since WW2 that international affairs will be paramount to the result. So workers at risk of losing their jobs to outsourcing in industry belt states like Ohio and Wisconsin are still looking to vote for Bush on the basis of his pledge to keep America safe.

Still too close to call, exit polls giving Kerry a narrow lead in Wisconsin and Michigan, Bush ahead in Ohio.

Ex- New York Mayor Guniliai just as good as claimed victory for Bush. Not sure if it means much but you would be sure he would know what he is on about.

With Florida, CBS has Bush 246

add Alaska where the polls close soon and he'll go to 249.

Ohio (20) makes 269, Bush can't lose from there. So Kerry must, must, must win Ohio.

Unfortunately, it looks as if it is going to be very hard for Kerry from here on in.
Quite disappointing.

Call me bitter if you like, but to me it's more proof that Americans, on the most part, are gullible morons.

Bush will win. We might not find out for sure for a day or so, but Kerry has had it. Florida and Ohio will remain red states. Kerry had to win one of them. At least we in Illinois went big for John Kerry and have just elected a future President, Senator-Elect Barack Obama. I was fortunate enough to meet him a few weeks ago.

Four more years of Bush. :(

I have heard good things about this Barack Obama. How many years off the presidency is he? :)

BArack Obama is one of the few African-American senator's is he not???

Poses a question I have always pondered aand had many a debate at pubs and over the dinner table which will be the first to call the Whitehouse home a Black a Woman or a Jew.

Ive always thought Jew But of recent I feel Hilary Rodham-Clinton might make a tilt at the next election thus putting a woman in a better position and I really think there is dayligh between that and a Black president.

i'm flicking between the NBC (Ch 7) and CBS (Ch 9) coverage, and apparently 'moral issues' has been a big issue - by this I think they mean gay marriages and abortion. Was this predicted?

I think Kerry is in a bit of trouble though.

And also, what about Channel 2's extensive coverage of the US election - repeats of The Bill and other regular programming. Thought they would have been doing some sort of coverage during the day.

He'll be the only black senator in the new senate. (First for 25 years apparently?)

Amusingly, on the figures I saw, he got 80% of the vote in a seat that previously belonged to the Republicans!

Well there's been a couple of a failed VP candidates in two of those categories - Geraldine Ferraro and Joe Lieberman.

Been some black candidates in the presidential primaries - Alan Keyes (Obama's opponent), Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton.

At least you're one of the good ones mate.

I just can't see how anyone could possibly vote for Bush. Literally, he is a moron. Period. I mean, I can understand people voting for him because, in their deluded state, America is saver under him (The fact that September 11 was in fact under his watch and that in three years he still hasn't caught the man responsible has obviously been overlooked by most...but that's another story).

But how can Americans overlook how royally rooted their economy is and the dropping employment figures. Ok, admittedly, I voted for Howard and a small part of the reason was national secuirty, but had the economy not been how it was there was no bloody way he would have got my vote purely for the safety reason.

Oh yes, that's the Republican base! :p

Some states have a ballot initiative banning same-sex marriage, which has driven up Republican turnout. This includes Ohio. :(

DaveW , I think Bush is edging ahead in Ohio, I think the rotund lass is clearing out the throat for Kerry.

Looks definitely like its down to Ohio now. Given Alaska will go Republican, Kerry would have to win every other undecided state to tie, which just means Bush wins anyway. Kerry's not going to win in New Mexico anyway by the look of it (mind you, he's in front in all the rest).

Why couldn't we have this much red at the Australian election ;).

Still all down to Ohio.. There'll be a swing back to Kerry when they get to the city ballots, but its going to have to be a big one for him to get back in the running
