Sad news tonight hearing that Alex Aurrichio has died following a cycling accident in the Northern Territory. Remember watching the big American rucking for the Northern Blues...very raw, but always competed strongly and never shirked a contest.

Both Carlton and the Northern Blues have posted tributes to Facebook.

Rest In Peace Alex.

This guy earned my respect.

American lad who moved a world away from home with a dream of becoming a professional athlete.

We almost rookied him from memory but had Korcheck at the time (again if memory serves correctly).

He wasn't quite good enough to maintain his spot in the VFL but the SANFL called him. He tried to make a fist of it there and had limited success. Again, he was never a quitter so moved up north.

A popular young man with a strong work ethic and a never quit attitude. Although he wasn't the success story of a Mason Cox credit where it's due. You can make a nice little life for yourself by chasing your dreams here. A more important story than the one-in-a-million Cox.

Rest in peace Alex. Condolences to friends and family.
