That we are 'long suffering Richmond fans', but hey ...... I wouldn't have it any other way.
It's a way of life being a Tiger.
And besides, I had a brother who switched clubs - to Hawthorn no less - in '83.
Three damn Tiger flags in his early years and now God knows how many for the Hawks. It still grates as it is so wrong.
And still he doesn't have the grace to stay until the siren sounds the last few times we have beaten them.

Im guessing your bro is one of those guys who rocks up to a party with a six pack of fosters, and then drinks half a slab of coopers

LOL ... he'd likely bring 12 and then ho into something else once finished. Good drinker!

On the contrary Disaster, I am a genuinely cheerful person and one who is comfortable in his beliefs, particularly those about the Richmond FC. I see through the bullshit and spin and see things for what they are. I'm not your much desired fanboi who thinks everything is rosy or spectacular just because it's Richmond, I don't go into 'meltdown' as you suggest like plenty on here at the mere mention from Kane Cornes, Robbo or some other media cvommentator that we will miss finals or take a step back and in keeping with my career I try to offer an objective view on things, as opposed to the blatant fanism that goes on here. Nor do I delve into scenarios that bank on everything going right to allow us to challenge for the top four ... you know the ones that you see here regularly that suggest 'Prestia will play all 22 games, Edwards gets back to 2015 form, Batchelor all of a sudden returns to 2012 form, all of Markov, Short, BEllis, Menadue, Drummond, Butler improve out of sight, Griffiths suddenly plays 22 games and kicks 40 goals etc.'. Nonsense.
And the delusion of some that Deledio is no loss because he's missed so much football (that is one ruined year in 2016 and mind you he was ready to play weeks out from the end of the season but the club put him in cotton wool which was the source of much angst from player), yet Prestia is recruit of the year and will play every game (despiite not playing more than 14 the last two years). I see things for what they are.
And Disaster, I don't even get upset when you and a select few others feel need to respond to my comments with snide remarks and insults (I have most of them are on ignore anyway so it's fruitless) .. it does not bother me. I'm happy and comfortable with my views on the Richmond FC and unlike the bulk on here I wasn't sitting around looking for answers or trying to apportion blame when 2016 went pear-shaped as I saw it coming and said so. And yes my prediction we would fall below 12th, my belief the Bulldogs had better young talent than us, teams such as St Kilda and Melbourne would fly right past us and that we still wouldn't get within a bulls roar of North Melbourne met with ridicule from some and might have cost me a friendship or two along the way, but so be it. My view is my view and I won't pretend I sit here in some sort of Utopia where all is perfect with the Tigers.

That was intended more as a joke than a snide remark anyway

objective ,,,,:'( like when you scorned the club for not re signing the likes of mcbean and others years out from when they were off contract,,,hmmm selective memory I think mate

It's because you and i are still #eci.

Back off Warchild, seriously......

I appreciate an old school movie reference. Warchild is also a sicko name and I wish my parents called me that

I knew Hawyhorn's supporter base is full of ex Tigers who couldn't stand the heat in the kitchen, bloody bandwagon mob that club.

Or maybe like when I told you that North Melbourne would not only beat us but finish top four - two years in a row - and did.
Or when I argued that the Western Bulldogs younger generation were superior to the Tigers, but you gave every reason under the sun why our were better? Maybe check back and see who won the last premiership with a crop of fantastic youngsters, while you are winging and praying it on the likes of Lennon, CEllis and Drummond.
Ring a bell???
Or maybe last pre-season when I aid we would drop a few rungs on the ladder ....... ????
I can categorically say I have never written a post about re-signing McBean.
My wish was for him to be given a decent crack at AFL level. He got three games on end and was dropped and I knew within seconds that he would be gone from Punt Road a few weeks later .. and was.
It's an embarrassment that we keep blokes like Elton who are coming into their sixth year and shown bugger all and we are one Riewoldt njury from starting he, Moore or Chol at full forward - top list management.

Or maybe like the time you were singing the praises of Townsend and Moore and the impact they would have on Cotch?

Could never respect the decision to change clubs, would have more respect giving up footy all together , which a lot have over the journey ,,,,not all RFC form related , majority lifestyle changes , does make it an open and shut case if ain't winning though

All I know is that through my entire life I have always had a very very slender frame and at 18 looked much like McBean when he was drafted. Incredibly fast metabolism etc.

I went to the gym and just didn't seem to put on size. I was under the impression that I was just one of those people who doesn't gain weight...

Then I did a hell of a lot of research, a **** load. And learnt heaps about body building and realised that of course our bodies are all different but there's no such thing as "Can't put on weight".

Diet, getting enough calories is HUGE. There's a reason why most bodybuilders go through huge bulk periods where cardio is at an absolute minimum and they have huge calory surplus. They then cut down after that.

It's just stupid that he would be doing the volume of running that other players are doing. (Maybe he doesn't but the clip of him in the time trial seems to suggest it). And that's my problem. Why would the coaching staff even be interested in knowing what McBean can do over 3k!?! Get him to the right size he needs, which will translate to confidence....and if he can't run out games anymore...who cares. Build the base, then maintain the weight whilst increasing running. The other way around is just dumb.

When the one major reason why you are not playing in the seniors is because you look like a child....that's the area where you HAVE to work. Yes....keep a small base of running and maintain your skills and knowledge of structures....but mate....it's actually not that hard to put on 5-10kg over a pre-season. The coaching staff should be smart enough to classify Mcbean into his own group and give him a completely individual program.

I just saw him in the running session and it got me thinking...why after 2.5 preseasons hasn't put on size? Then I thought....hmmm, when I went from U18s to seniors i basically cut out cardio completely, hit the gym 5 times a week and consumed about 150g of protein a day and had 3000+ calories. I put on 10kg in 3 months. I then went back to footy with less endurance but supreme confidence that i was able to walk out of tackles and hold my own against men. I then built my tank and worked into games more and more as the season progressed but at least when the ball was near me I could contribute in a meaningful way. Previously to that I was a skinny kid wingman that basically got crushed every time i went near it in my couple of games in seniors as a junior.

I'm saying that it is stupid to worry about his cardio fitness. From his first year it should have been spotted that....ok mate....

Skills: 8/10
Running: 6/10
Game knowledge and awareness: 7/10
Strength and size: 1/10

So for the next 6 months to a year you are doing 90% gym work and if your game suffers slightly in other areas that's ok because you are well below average in that area. After a year he would hopefully have changed to:

Skills: 7/10
Running: 4/10
Game knowledge and awareness: 7/10
Strength and size: 5/10

The point is McBean won't get a game again this year given his size IMO. He is too small and it doesn't matter if he is kicking goals and doing good things in the resies because the coaches are aware that in the seniors against bigger, faster, stronger defenders he will be useless. Even when he was jagging those bags....the coaches mentioned him but IMO was just for his confidence and I don't think he really was ever considered.

So instead of concentrating fully on that crucial aspect of his game in the first 2 years and then being worked into the seniors as a starter to be subbed out or subbed in during his 3rd season he will again be a non-afl ready player who will be potential and not truly push for selection. Hopefully his 4th year?? Who knows.

Now, probably no. Im not sure....but why not in the first 2 years when we were all aware that he wasn't going to play anyway?

And i disagree that fitness for a guy like him in his position is more important than size. No way.

I posted something to this effect every year for 3 pre-seasons until Mcbean was finally delisted. Still makes me melt. Are our coaches and fitness staff sillies or what?

I also copped a fair bit of heat in those threads.

AFL players need to have a tank etc etc. What planet were those lunatics on...

END of the day, as one of those supposed repugnant and loathsome 'negative posters', I only really read the opinions of about 10 worthwhiloe posters on here anyways .... some of those of the similar allegedly unpalatable 'negative posters' and a few choice others who can actual debate an issue and concede ground sometimes. The rest I don't bother with, particularly the likes of those who see rainbows, unicorns and pots of gold at every corner and are convinced we are on the cusp .... the type who were up in arms when a Deledio-Caddy trade was first mentioned as the Geelong bloke was a hack, but now think he's an A-grade midfielder ;) Those type of posters are just as grating as Cogga was allegedly/. And I've learned to ignore the four posters in particular who feel need to shadow my every post and jump in with a seemingly automatic rebuttal.
Only thing I would observe or say Goldy is not to take it personally when people have a go at the media or a particular jurno. We all like to vent and sometimes it may be sarcastic (which doesn't always come through in posts).
I know it's easy to get defensive when you think someone is having a go at your profession, happens to me all the time, but best to just ignore I believe.

Going away from the footy topic here so here goes.

I have to attend a family function Friday and i figured since it is going to be 30 degrees I would wear my dressy shorts, got told in no uncertain terms that shorts are out and it's long pants no questions asked, my response was " GAGF that's bullshit, ladies are allowed to wear dresses or short skirts but I have to wear ****ing long pants " blokes get ripped off when it's warm to hot weather and we have to dress like its ****ing winter when attending formal functions while the gals can dress like its summer.

Rant over.

true its rubbish isn't it?

You're still going tho. Just wear em anyway. Although you shouldn't have said anything and then just rocked up in them.

Now you'll look like a proper campaigner if you do.

This is true but they also have the option to wear pants if they wish, problem tomorrow is its the fussy side of the family and not the side of the family that would say dress for the weather.

Will wear the pants but am taking my shorts with me and if I see even one dude in shorts then it will be a swift change of clothing.

Sensible strategy.
It's Christmas, take one for the team and keep the peace!
I'll be playing golf in shorts:tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Wear the shorts.
I've never heard of a 'family' function where dress codes apply.
I'm sure someone else will rock up in shorts (because they didn't ask) and you'll be cursing you didn't.
