Thought the votes were pretty easy tonight. Some good signs and some bad ones from the game, not nearly as bad as some are making it out to be. Yes it was a bad style of game but atleast we gave ourselves a chance at victory. Would people prefer us to play into Melbourne's hands by making it a shootout and come away with a 7-8 goal loss but be safe in the knowledge that we are a 'pretty' football team. No thanks. Anyways the votes...

POTY
5 - Scott Thompson - Went hard at everything, was one of the few players who rarely made a bad decision tonight, knows what to do with the footy. Making sure he kicks those goals is something he must work on though.

4 - Simon Goodwin - Not much to say really except for that he is an absolute gun. Nothing we didn't already know though.

3 - Ben Hudson - This bloke just keeps getting better and better. Completely toweled White in the ruck, probably was up there in clearances for the match as well, went hard at everything and topped it off with a nice goal.

2 - Brett Burton - Why all the criticism? His use of the ball tonight was good, often got himself out of trouble when in traffic and generally made good decisions. If he plays like this every week then he will be a very valuable member of the team.

1 - Ian Perrie - Only forward to really create a contest and compete. If he'd kicked straight would have been higher up in the votes but still provided a target. Don't blame Perrie for the fact that no crumbers decided they wanted to get to the contest tonight. Worked his arse off, pity the little blokes underneath him didn't follow suit.

BTM
3 - Ben Hudson - See above

2 - Scott Thompson - See above

1 - Ian Perrie - Works hard, team player.

ROTY
1 - Ben Rutten - Thought he was one of our best until Neitz went off, then he got a little bit lost but still did enough to earn a vote.

Snakebite, quite incredible!! Your votes are identical to what I was going to post in every respect, so I'll take a shortcut tonight and use yours.

Well, you know what they say, great minds... ;)

POTY
5 - Thommo - Our best player by a mile, shame he didn't get to kick a few goals.
4 - Goodwin - Tried hard all night.
3- Hudson - LOVE HIM!
2- Perrie - People are crticising him, but I thought he was decent and was easily our best forward tonight although that is saying much.
1 - Rutten - Our best defender on the night, took some nice marks against Neitz.

BTM
3 - Thommo
2- Hudson
1 - Rutten

ROTY
1 - Rutten

Low of the game
4kg ratcheting bar clamp falling centrimetres form my head.

POTY
5 - Thompson - was there any doubt?
4 - Hudson - this guy works hard for every ball.
3 - Perrie - what he lacks in skill he makes up for in determination.
2 - Rutten - fine job in defence tonight.
1 - Goodwin - not great, but pretty good.

BTM
3 - Hudson - he's got a lot of mongrel in him and I love it.
2 - Perrie - went for the hard ball, took some good contested marks and presented well.
1 - Rutten - same as every week pretty much.

ROTY
1 - Rutten - I didn't think Meesen and Van Berlo played as well as him tonight. :p

POTY
5. Thompson - a gun in the making!
4. Goodwin - solid and was the goto man most of the night
3. Hudson - the usual good effort - when most of mates had stinkers!
2. Burton - put in and tried to set things up - some evasive stuff too at times.
1. Rutten - looked ok down back compared to the rest

apologies to Perrie

3. Hudson
2. Perrie
1. Thompson

POTY
5 - Scott Thompson - Next captain. Clone him. Enough said
4 - Simon Goodwin - Continues to be the best performed senior player this year
3 - Brett Burton - Got plenty of it, generally used it well
2 - Ben Hudson - Tried his guts out in the ruck against in form White. Kicked a goal too.
1 - Andrew McLeod - I thought his first half was exceptional with one mistake. Second half he was quieter but overall a very good game from BP/HBF

Best Team Man
3 - Ben Rutten - By far out best KPP tonight. Played well on Neitz and ran off him at every opportunity.
2 - Scott Thompson - see above
1 - Ben Hudson - see above

Rookie
Rutten - see above.

Best Mark: From Adelaide's perspective, Rhett Biglands mark in the goal square.
Most disappointing: Marin Mattner :(

POTY

5 - GOODWIN - Battled manfully all night and thankfully got his disposals on target tonight.
4 - HUDSON - Just gets better. Tries his butt off, very impressed with him tonight.
3 - THOMSPON - Super effort. Marred by poor shots on goal that might have given us the winner's sniff.
2 - BURTON - One of his better efforts. Can hardly remember a clanger and his evasive skills were exceptional.
1 - RUTTEN - Solid as a truck.

BTM

3 - BURTON
2 - MCLEOD
1 - SHIRLEY

ROOKIE

1 - RUTTEN

Brickbats - Reilly & Mattner. Unfortunately, with younger players you've gotta take the good with the bad. Tonight was the bad, folks.
Going nowhere - Welsh & Hentschel. What gives?
Congrats to Kenny on his 100th game. Thought he was terrible in the 1st half, but inmproved as the game went on. I saw signs tonight of the ol' Kenny.

Yes, he probably was our worst tonight.

Which only goes to show the fickle nature of footy - he was about our best player for several weeks in a row.

You have to forgive a player one bad game though.

Mattner was on such a high that he was bound to have a stinker at some stage of the year. He got it out of the way tonight and I expect him to play well against Brisbane.

I find it hard to pick the stand outs when we play like this. But here goes...

BOG

5. Thompson - ferocious attack on the ball, did miss some gettable shots though
4. Goodwin - ball magnet, thought he used it well tonight too
3. Rutten - many times the saviour in defence
2. Burton - starting to return to top form
1. Hart - excellent in his loose man role

BTM

3. Rutten
2. Perrie - kicking let him down but couldn't fault the effort
1. Hudson - always a hard worker

Rookie

1. Rutten

Player of the Year
5. Thompson - Fantastic performance in average team performance. Used the ball cleanly, his attack on the ball was sensational (how about that one in the last quarter?) and his great game was only marred by three missed shots at goal.
4. Goodwin - Easily our best performed senior player this year. Gathered disposals at will and was very effective.
3. Hudson - Dominated the ruck when he was on, was damaging, took some nice marks and his 2nd efforts were once again fantastic. Kicked a nice goal too.
2. Burton - Worked his legs off last night, used the ball surprisingly well and didn't look out of place unlike last night. Don't understand all the criticism.
1. McLeod - Died out in the second half but his first half was sensational and certainly showed some McLeod of old. Seems to be getting used to the reboudnign defender role, and was super effective on Davey.

Best Team Man
3. Hudson - see above.
2. Rutten - Didn't give Neitz anything, provided great run from Full Back and consistently matched/beat his opponent in the contests.
1. Perrie - Not his best game but was still our best forward. Dropped some and took some as always, but as always made a contest and finished with 2 goals next to his name. Can't be questioned tonight.

Rookie of the Year
Rutten - Good to see him regain some form after his last two weeks. Has proved to be a revelation. Give him the award now! ;)

5. Thompson

5 - Scott Thompson - is becoming very very important....knows where to go to get the ball......his courage and aggression is something we have lacked for ages.

4 - Simon Goodwin - continuing his good form - good to have him back

3 - Ben Rutten - Outbodied Neitz on several occasions....another scalp in the rucksack !

2 - Ben Hudson - Second efforts in ruck are great....gave us a lot of drive, and has quick hands for a big fella.

1 - Edwards - got a bit of the ball

BTM

3 - Hudson
2 - Rutten
1 - Perrie - keeps presenting despite his lack of skills

Question: How many time did Stenglein pick up 5 votes in his whole career compared to Thommo in what, just 7 games - rest my case!

True that.

I also wanted to mention somewhere that Thompson > Moloney and if he'd done any pre-season at all then Thompson >>> Moloney but it's kinda hard to after you lose.
