Review WA 2023 - Western Australia’s junior footy talent

Was at the Combine on Sunday to have a look very interesting day it was, Standouts had to be: Riley wills (S), Oscar Hine-Bastion (P) Joe Fonti (C) and Sam Van Rooyen (C) . Will be interesting to see who gets picked up from this crop they had about an hour in between their agility test and the 2km Time trial and Wills spent that whole time talking to multiple clubs coming up to him while a lot of them were sitting around has to be a firm chance any others you guys reckon have it in them at the next level.
I’m a big fan of Fonti and Hine-Bastion.
Fonti - silky smooth skills, quick, agile - HB is a beast. Athletic, instinctual. He spent most of this year in defence but I’d love to see him thrown on a wing/ up forward.
How did Cocking and Ferreira go?
I’m trying to get a gauge on SVR, haven’t watched enough so can’t comment.

Thanks for these.
Wills + Hine-Bastion cleaning up, Fonti strong too.
How much do recruiters take note of these results if boys are on the edge? Most of these results look strong against the big guns too.

I believe the most important aspect is, do the players show the same attributes on field, during games.

A kid can knock out a great 2km time trial, but players don’t run at a constant, steady pace at afl level.

It’s all about repeat efforts, burst speed and acceleration, etc.

I think those results match up well with game style, performance, on field attributes.

The only odd result is Sam Van Rooyen with finishing so high in agility. I have trouble matching that up with the games I've seen him play but credit to him for a good time.

I'm starting to get the feeling Wills and Fonti will get rookied.

Hine-Bastion confirmed his athletic ability finished 4th in agility but top 3 in every thing else
Really happy for him seems WCE will pick him up, small backman that can defend one on one are so rare and
underrated

Does he retain his nga status from last year?

Bonus if so.

With the season completed and the national and state testing completed I can't think of any other alterations that can be made to my favourite players list for 2023. Not all the players in the top 30 ended up on the recruiter's radar but maybe some will become WAFL stars hopefully.

These are the players I am really struggling to rate at times.

Hall - I am concerned about his lack of strings to his bow, but younger me always rated these players.
Livingstone - It feels like a rookie list styled selection if at all.
Senge - I could actually see him being a late draft pick.
O'Driscoll - Has plenty of AFL traits, he would have to make it as a winger, high half forward.
Van Rooyen - Maybe his brother gets him over the line.

He could be red colour-blind? 20 - Ashton Ferreira is definitely there!
Never been colour blind. Though dad is with reds and greens.

Geez, I just changed the whole list to black, and in he pops. I wonder which shade of red you’re using.

Agree...where do you see Fonti, Wills, Otto and Hine-Baston?

My take:
Fonti - gets drafted late or rookie - someone will like the speed+agility+height+jump package and the ability to football enough.
Wills - 50/50 rookie
Otto - unlucky but not likely.
Hine-Baston - maybe 30/70 rookie chance?

Jeepers.....Jack Clarke Medal winner Riley Wills (S) has signed with Perth pending the draft, as has 2022 colts star Ryan Newick (S) who didn't even nominate for last year's draft. Wow....Perth have two nearly ready made league stars to work with.
Its hard to get into that Subi league team i suppose the weaker WAFL League teams (Perth in this example) should target the high end colts players who may be stuck in reserves in the short term. Quick way to have a talented although young league team. Look at the colts top 4 this year for there BF and runners up and target them . Its simplistic and they are not ready probably for league but if you are bottom 2 on league ladder a strategy to make your league team stonger in the next few years.

Gonna get in early here.

Thank you for the coverage of WA's best 2023 names Futbolista.

Biggest name to jump for me was Zane Zakostelsky while Hardeman, more or less, stayed in round 1 contention.

The 2024 thread will be your primary thread.

Cheers.
