So there you go, you've had an original investigation which found nothing, a couple of the police officers were Saints fans so it wasn't good enough. Now we've had a look into the integrity of the investigation and found that it was fine.

If anyone thinks there's a conspiracy now I advise them to go to continue writing their book about JFK's current whereabouts and how 9/11 was an inside job.

Hopefully now Milney can get on with his life and people like Mick Malthouse will be appropriately silenced.

So the OPI's investigation has found information was improperly leaked by police but it wasn't deliberate and found that there were a number of deficiencies in handling the case including inadequate handling of perceptions of bias and influence and you think everything is rosy???

Hopefully people who have gone through very real ordeals, now no longer have to be subjected to that word being thrown around so flippantly if they choose to go to the football.

That is what I can never understand about those who scream, chant or jeer with that word, what if someone sitting in your vicinity is a victim?

It's disgusting, and I encourage everyone to report such behaviour to the anti-social phone number provided.

LOL at Saints fans who think this means everyone can accept Milne as innocent.

Key evidence suspiciously went missing during the initial investigation....as if they were ever going to be able to mount a case 8 years later.

The way some fans have behaved over this is nothing short of disgraceful.

Lets hope this will be the end of it.

Some fans?

What about the media? Will they be putting this all over the front pages now that it has been 'closed'? Nope - we will probably get a sentence or two about it buried down in page 40. Can only imagine the coverage if the opposite was happening.

The reason you, and many other people still say that he isn't innocent is because you just want something that you can hold against him because of his over the top celebrating and the other stuff opposition fans hate him for. Deep down you don't really believe he did it, you just like calling him that word.

Agree. Hopefully the girl will be charged with misleading the police.

This is ridiculous and unfair also. Any citizen is within their rights to report to the police anything which they believe to be against the law. The police have examined the evidence and found that there was no reasonable chance of conviction. The OPI has conducted an investigation into the examining of evidence, and again supported this decision.

The lawyers of Stephen Milne ruled out defamatory action in 2004, stating that the lady involved was entitled to have the matter investigated. It has been investigated, and has been determined that there is no way he would be convicted of a crime. For the sake of ALL parties involved, let's hope this is now left alone without any ridiculous front page stories.

Milne's career, which will span over 250 games and 500 goals, does not deserve to be tarnished. Nor does the life of this woman, provided her intentions were honest.

Bingo

Are you a mind reader? Who are you to be telling us what we believe and don't believe.

Please, everyone loves to hate Milne

If the rape allegations never even existed they would find something to hate on him about. FFS one of his nicknames is 'tip rat'

How is he a dog on the field? His last charge that wasn't a melee was in 2003?

If you think it's mean that he gets in people's faces after a goal and celebrates hard, then go watch netball.

It is okay if you don't like him as a footballer but it crosses a line if you take it further. The ruling seems to be saying the evidence said there is no case to answer, so let it go.

As I boo Milne for the same reason I boo Ballantyne (intense dislike) no, it probably won't. It MAY stop the rapist calls, which I think have always been uncalled for.
Respect to any supporter who hates a player because of football reasons.

But whenever this issue is in the press Milne is booed incessantly. Maybe it's just a coincidence.

Very unfortunate that incident was for Milney, but the type of player he is and the type of character he is, was always going to generate a love him or hate him relationship. We love him, other teams supporter naturally hate him.
Look at how he went after that Carlton shirker the other day - manic - I loved it!
So keep hating him, keep jeering him, just lay off the Micky malt labels (i didn't blame mick at the tiime - under pressure and getting buttons pushed by Milney - but his lies and contempt after the event revealed a rather nasty, vindictive and hateful person).
Onya Milney - thank god you're a sainter!

the OPI investigation established that the police investigation had not been deliberately hampered or inappropriately influenced

The OPI identified "a number of deficiencies in managing the case", including inadequate handling of perceptions of bias and influence, but concluded the brief of evidence prepared for the OPI was sufficient for the agency to make an appropriate determination on the strength of the case.
Funny the OPI don't seem to be aware of the missing evidence. Better give them a call quick before they send everything off to the archives.

Yeah the media are just as much to blame, if not more to blame, than some of the supporters with their behaviour. Just like with the Kim Duthie scandals the media is quite happy to splash sensationalist headlines across the front pages to sell papers and twist the facts in order to create scandals. However when these allegations are proved false they don't apologise for the damage they have done to the players or clubs reputations or to the reputations of any other innocent people involved. They are absolute scum.

The Herald Sun are the worst offenders, no surprise when they are part of the Rupert Murdoch stable of gutter trash newspapers, yet they now expect people to pay for the privilege of reading their garbage online.

OJ Simpson was found not guilty of murder

You can't seriously compare the OJ Simpson case to the Milne case. OJ Simpson was charged with a crime and had to face a court trial and despite getting off there was overwhelming evidence to say he was guilty.

In the Milne case there wasn't even enough evidence to charge him and take him to court let alone find him guilty.

The news that this case is now closed unfortunately won't matter to the majority of idiots who still yell out abuse to Milne at games but at least it should mean that the media will finally stop bringing it up and dragging innocent people's reputations through the mud.
