Were you a wiz kid at school. or did you have the brains of a squashed ant.

I was a battler. that calculus stuff did not make much sense to me.

The question i hate most on my westpac competition was- if train A leaves the station at 11.15am am and is going 200km an hour and train B is heading north when do they meet. could never work that one out.

how about you. smart or dumb as dogs sh1t.

i go to school
I was an A B student in lower school
I am year 11 now, and it is a heck of a lot harder. Still gonna get an A in 2 sciences, but have sucked at Maths and Eng Lit!

I was smart as, then I was just a smart arse. Just breezed through V.C.E and did enough to pass ok. Had to work a bit harder in Uni when I actually realized I needed good qualifications.

One time (In band camp) my cordinator for year 12 told me and my friend that our files (trouble we had caused) were bigger than the rest of the year 12's put together.

Not bad!!!:D :D

Sums me up brilliantly. If you sift through my school reports, even dating back to late primary school, they all say I have the brains, and the potential to be an absolute A grade student, but I am lazy.

Year 12 next year, so time to use that potential, and really extract every ounce of intelligence I can muster up...

...I'm scared... ;)

Ahhh the goold old "its only next year that counts"

Well i took that into year 12 and started off *****.

After a swift kick up the arse (deservingly), by my dad, I picked up my act, and started using some of that potential in my head.

Waiting for my results now :o

I was by no means dumb, but got bad grades because none (not even one) of the teachers liked me. Handing in one sentence essays and doing little homework didn't help. But I do laugh when teachers swear that they are not biased - it is human nature.

Story of my life there ..... Has potential but Im one lazy prick :o

In primrary school though I was an absolute genius and that carried onto about year 7 & 8 where I was averaging A's to B's and year 9 is where I started to get the hiccups and everything seemed so much harder :(

Year 11 - Next Year ..... Bring on Studio Arts :D

I was smart when i wanted to be.
My record low exam was 19% (year 10 science...in year 10 i also got 20% for maths and 23% for tech studies) and my record high exam was 100% (twice in info tech).

I tended to not care or study for tests or exams in subjects i didnt care for...like maths, geography, science
i did really well in subjects i did care for - like phys ed, english and info tech/computing.

I got a 14 in year 12 Phys Ed, despite not passing one assignment during the year, and getting 20something % in both exams...so i got a 14 basically all on the practical side of PE.

It was all commitment with me...if i put my mind to it then id get a good mark...but if i hated a subject i wouldnt bother.

I fell into the 'has potential but' group. I have all of my school reports. There were just too many pearlers in there to toss them away. My two faves:

'...content to do as little as possible and seems to care little for his own progress.'

'...flitters away time in class filling out racing form guides.'

Actually, the teacher who wrote the first comment quit the profession, became a real estate agent, and ended up selling our house. True!

God bless you Mr. McConville :)

Like any of us are going to say that we're really a dumb arse...

duuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........huc...................

Vis :p

Yep me too. I got straight As and A+s with exams, without even bothering to study much at all. But when it came to assignments well... I either failed them completely by not submitting, or did them the morning they were due, and got Bs and Cs.

Ever year till year 10, I came very close to having to repeat. In year 7, at my first school, I failed every single subject except drama, including 21 "Ns" for missed work requirements. Lucky for me, at that school, they couldn't care less. At my other school, I think you had to pass 6 subjects a semester to be promoted, and I always passed exactly 6, no more, no less.

When I got to year 11, I actually tried a little harder, but still failed economics both semesters and in year 12, I flunked out of physics within about 4 weeks of the start of school.

So errr... while I was quite good at everything we did at school, I wasn't smart. If I were smart, I would have done my work.

(or perhaps I was just lazy)

(I'm really hoping I can overcome this next year if I get back into uni)

I'm scared to say if I'm smart or not...I don't want to be known as the resident dork like I was at school... :( Atomic wedgies are never fun ;)

Westpac maths used to crack me up. Get 10 right out of 30 ie 33% and get a credit certificate. One year I got 13/30 and it was a distinction (even though I'd technically failed...) Fabbo.

Heh, in year 10, I got 12 right and got a distinction. Top 10% That either says something about the state of maths education in this country, or how stupidly difficult those questions were. I think it is the latter, because it was all kind of logic, rather than maths that you can be taught easily. You can either do that stuff or you can't.

Oh, and I hated those stupid train questions as well. "Who got there first?" How the hell am I supposed to know?!

Haha... I got a distinction in year 7 and a credit in year 8 but havent bothered to enter it since. :D

From grade prep to yr 9 I was a straight A student, but come the end of yr 9 things fell away a bit. Year 10 was a total bludge. I got my first 4 N's for English, Maths, Social Ed and DBE and barely ever turned upto school. We used to wag at least a few times a week - went to the beach, city, grand final parade LOL etc etc...

My laziness carried onto the start of this year as well and I looked like I was gonna fail everything for a while. I just couldnt be bothered. But if youre ever in trouble with grades just tell them you have 'family problems' LOL :D - They'll let you off every time and give you an extention. ;) It probably helps also that the school I go to doesnt really give a *****! As long as you hand in all your work before report writing day youre fine.

Luckilly I picked up my act midyear and ended up with mostly A's and B's for subjects I virtually did nothing for until 1 wk before exams. But Im still friggin lazy - do nothing all year and work my ass off the wk before exams :o

I'm pretty smart. Unfortunately, I've been getting the feeling recently that I'm not going to go as well as I hoped for on Dec 17.:(

Oh well, I'll live.

Im scared too!

Btw school exams and such were a doddle always. Breezed through, probably why I find life so much harder know, never knew what it was like to struggle early! :(

To be perfectly honest, up until about year 8, I was always the smartest student in the class. Primary school was a breeze. My mum - who is a teacher - had taught me to read and write by the time I was about four, so I had an advantage over the other kids.

I still found myself more intelligent than my peers up until I was 15, when it stared to "even out." Mathematics was difficult, especially calculus, and for some stupid reason I chose Chemistry in year 11, even though it was a ridiculously difficult subject.

My year 12 results were "reasonable." My total score out of 162 for all asssessments was 123, which was good but hardly earth shattering. That result was helped by perfect scores in the two English exams I sat - A+ for both (which is between 95-100%.) Fortunately the exams were not marked on an actual score, but were marked by the grading letter, hence if you received an A+, you scored somewhere between 95-100, but it wasn't revealed what your score was. So, I have great pleasure in including on my resume : "Highest mark in the state for year 12 English."

So, in a nutshell, I started off like a house on fire, and slowed down a touch.

topped my class Year 5 to Year 8

Year 9 to 11, slacked off completely

came back reasonably hard in Year 12, got into law

slacked off at uni as well, yo-yo results, but got a good job at the end of it which I now slack off in:D :(

I am almost identical to Fat Red as far as schooling goes, altough a bit less spectacular. I was a good student from years 5-8, slacked off from years 9-11 and then sort of came good in year 12, though not that good.

With me ... it took a whole lot of bloody hard work! I ended up with good grades at High School, but not after busting my gut studying (especially in the last couple of years).

Got into the uni course i wanted ... so i was happy with that. Graduated last year ... now just working on gaining some experience. Analytical science is more my go ... and will be looking to break out of pathology. Path is far too routine for me. :)
