West Coast Eagles Priority Pick (2024)

We don’t own our training grounds. We rent it from the government. Collingwood owns its training precinct

Nice try

The AIA Centre, where the Collingwood Football Club trains, is located within the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Precinct and is managed by the Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust. The facility itself is not owned by the Collingwood Football Club; rather, the club is a tenant that uses it as its administrative and training headquarters. The Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust, a statutory authority, oversees the precinct, including the AIA Centre, which was originally built for the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. AIA Australia holds the naming rights as part of a sponsorship deal with the club, but this does not imply ownership. Therefore, the AIA Centre is effectively owned and administered by the Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust on behalf of the Victorian Government.https://www.onlymelbourne.com.au/oss-centrehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne_Sports_and_Entertainment_Centrehttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne_Sports_and_Entertainment_Centre

In 2003 this was true. Gotta catch up to today…

Post it. Let’s see your Gemini conjure up something untrue.

I’ll put it this way. In 2018 Collingwood had 49 million in assets and now have 90 mill… they went from claiming 11 mill in accumulated depreciations to 34 million…and did all this without buying or owning anything according to you….

The Collingwood Football Club owns and operates the AIA Centre, which is their primary training and administration base. The AIA Centre, formerly known as the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Centre, is a key part of the club's facilities at Olympic Park. AIA Australia has a naming rights partnership with the centre, as part of a broader sponsorship agreement with the club, hence the name "AIA Centre".

Owns…. Although perhaps they found 40 million dollars in non cash assets from thin air

Our club never took money from the tax payer

- Total Assets: In 2019, the West Coast Eagles' total assets were reported to have breached $107.2 million, a significant increase from $77.7 million the previous year, driven by their 2018 premiership success, record crowds at Optus Stadium, and the completion of a $60 million administration and training facility at Lathlain Park.

The redevelopment of Lathlain Park, now known as Mineral Resources Park, was funded through a combination of public and private contributions. The total cost of the project was approximately $60 million. The funding breakdown is as follows:

WAFC covered it not West Coast Eagles. Unless you think West Coast Eagles built a ground for the Perth Demons :D

Hard to fathom I know but Eagles actually paid for our own equiupment when we moved into the stadium... We didnt magically find equipment some 15+ years after we moved in in the exact same year the federal govt gave out a 15 mill grant...

Infact if you go back before the build we had peaked at around 98 mill before that slip down so wasnt a 30 mill net gain like it says.

Do you understand how free agency works?
Sure do. That doesn't change the point that if he leaves and you get pick 2 or 3 for him you haven't made out like bandits. The fact that you would have got well overs for him negates the need for the AFL to give you a PP, as you basically got one for him.

Will West Coast apply for a PP this year
Worst team in the league and very little talent surely they should get what North got
Otherwise its just not fair.

Why does the AFL discriminate against the eagles
Have the dockers ever got a PP ?
I agree that they should be entitled to exactly what other teams in the same position have got, however the fact that they are a powerful club, a WA club, and won a premiership not all that long ago will go into the AFLs reasoning.
The point that may go in their favour is that the AFL will want all the existing teams to be over their rebuilds by the time Tassie starts taking all the best talent.

Irrelevant.

If a club pays enough to trigger band 1, that's what we get due to our ladder position.

I genuinely believe they should get rid of PP but if they dont then Eagles should get what north got
which is the end of 1st round PP this year

hilarious thread

the only thing the VFL has ever given the Eagles is 'inventing' rules overnight to make it harder for them
I have more chance going to the moon than the Eagles do getting a PP

If the Eagles get band one for Allen i don't think a priority pick will be on the table.
If Harley decides to leave at the end of the year and it is Richmond or Essendon the Eagles will have enough top end picks to rebuild.
Worst case scenario is if he wants to go to either the Pies,Hawks or Cats then maybe a priority pick would be appropriate as i don't know whether any of them would have the picks to satisfy our rebuild.

A club whose taken over 30 mill in Victorian and Federal govt grants in the last 5 years wants to lecture people about things being deserved or not

Our club never took money from the tax payer that could have went to things such as childrens hospital so they could buy some treadmills atleast, and even worse, we didnt use womens sports as a excuse to steal taxpayer money also...

I guess we all have different ethical boundaries. Best not ask for a AFL draft pick. We should probably just ask the state government to give us 30 mill in money instead :)

EDIT : How insane is this. Collingwood had a 4.43 mill profit for 2024... but took a 4.47 million dollar government grant.... What was it for you ask. Well one part was to investigate and promote against tech based abuse against women in sport (495k).... that they included on their own profit/loss sheet.... and included it as a profit.... Amazing how corrupt an entity can be . Another amazing stat. Collingwoods netball team that doesnt exist has received more government funding then the entire netball competition itself in the past 10 years.... stealing money from women in sport is as low as you can go
Fake News!
Try harder.
You need to do far more research into those grants.
Do you understand how to read financial statements? You know, you have revenue and expenses. Do you actually even understand why a grant is given? Do you realise it partly covers the costs associated with that community benefit??? West Coast should realise as a non-for-profit, there’s an obligation to actual support community programs.

Maybe you need to also have a closer look at the owndership of the Melbourne Vixens. Fully owned, operated and funded by Netball Victoria. In fact, it (and Sunshine Coast) not funded and supported by a state netball association, unlike all the others in Super Netball.

But again, deflect with your mistruths when this is all about what has become the basket case known as the West coast eagles.

The AFL cooked FA compo 13 years ago and haven't gone about uncooking it since. They were happy with Lance Franklin being pick 19 and Ben McKay pick 3.

The silly thing is when GC and GWS came in the AFL had more flexible compo pick options, with mid first round picks on offer as well as being able to use compo picks in your chosen year not just the year the player left.

Another page closer to the inevitable PP'S being handed out.

Seriously though, I'd prefer the assistance to be an increased soft cap & some additional rookie/Cat B spots.
It likely is inevitable if all things are equal
Will they use it wisely though or throw it away with a bunch of other good picks on the Chad while leaving 15 other positions empty ?

Additional rookie/cat b spots should be an absolute given. What's the point in investing years of time and money into young players, only to pull the rug out from under a couple of them each year? They might actually make it if given a couple of extra years in a professional environment.

Especially given the WA State Govt is now in bed with the NRL for a new team out of Perth.

AFL house doesn't like this development (it's had its mouthpieces pushing back against it for months) and now needs to shore up it's hold on WA with a basket case WC.

NRL if smart, will give this start up plenty of concessions to ensure that it successful from day 1.

Then again, it did just call it the Perth "Bears", LOL.

Hell we don't have Koala's!

Presumably they are identifying with the new bikini trend on our local beaches....... the cheek of it!
