West Coast Eagles Priority Pick (2024)

Trading our best player for an average mid and an injury riddled, mature aged forward would be horrific list management, considering one of those 2 is a free agent.

If you reckon keeping Reid is an argument against getting assistance then I don't even know what the hell your suggestion is, unless you want Lathlain burnt to the ground...

We'll have pick 2 as well ;)
Pick 1,2 and Hawthorn's round one would give the eagles three of the top12 you would think.
In a compromised draft it is unlikely.
It is a weaker draft than last year according to experts.
Bringing three kids in next year won't move the dial much next year.
Most probably talking about this next year.
Waterman and Yeo getting on the field next year will help. Will give some leadership.

Your point is completely valid and the percentages don’t look so bad in your comparisons

From an outsider point of view though surely there are so many holes in the list and lack of depth in the midfield that you might be better chasing 2 very good players for that same price ( eg: you could get a Serong and a Brayshaw for the same value )

Trade Reid to Hawthorn and demand Worpel and Lewis plus picks in return for example

Or pick through the clubs for some good upcoming moneyball midfielders

Him saying he wants successful clubs rings some alarm bells maybe not now but for the future

Feel like WC are in too deep and personally I couldn’t give a rats where he lands but at the same time I’d hate to see him burn valuable years stuck with that rabble of a team around him dragging him down
Hes too good to watch play
Super cool point dude, but the issue is they have to be willing to come. Maybe we should get some sort of system where just us choosing them means they have to play for us?

Oh hang on, that's the draft.

The club is poised to hand over 4m dollars over two seasons for a 20 year old mid averaging 19 touches a game… maybe the AFL should demand WCE fix up it’s own backyard before requesting assistance
In a zero sum game, perhaps we'd be better off paying players under the table like some competitors?

Yeh look , there’s not much substance to the crap I put on here

I’m mostly here to provide some purple love and reality checks to my old mates bzparkes and Grumpyshades

Once had a player that averaged 18 disposals a game in his second season. If Chris Judd was playing now, most teams would hand that over. There's also the fact that other teams would be lining up to pay similar if he decided to leave because they think he's tracking pretty damn well, so perhaps it's your understanding of the current salary cap and market that needs a little work.

Ridiculous post

If they don't sign him and he goes to a Vic club for the same $, they're a rabble & the Vic club have pulled off a coup.
If they do sign him, they've a rabble and they paid over & screwed the club.

Whatever they do people like you will say its wrong.
Realistically, they have the cap space, and they're one of a few clubs that it does actually make sense to spend on him.

When you finish last, yet pick 30 is your 2nd pick, the AFL draft as a whole is completely broken. Any priority picks just slightly off sets that.

Except the reports are geelong and others aren’t offering him 2m a year

Nobody is going to give him 12% of their salary cap or thereabouts.
, I can tell you no way geelong will break their pay structure and do that. It is a Ludicrous offer and will pretty much ruin west coasts ability to rebuild a decent side.

And a lot of the reason you're in this mess is that said club made you massively overpay for Tim Kelly and you've tried to play catch up since.
As far as I'm concerned Geelong are not done yet being compensated for poaching Kelly. Making it relative easy and painless for Harley Reid to make his way to Geelong as soon as possible should just about do the trick, and I'll be finally willing let it go.

Kelly hadn't even completed a full season, around half way his first season, before he approached Geelong for a trade, no doubt after being sweet talked by the Weagles relentlessly and shamelessly after his impressive first 10 games or so. Clubs that try to undermine other clubs by aggressively pursuing players that a club has recruited with that player not even having completed their first full season, should be severely sanctioned such as losing their first round pick for the following 5 years.

And this was after the Weagles had used 2 picks before Geelong used theirs to draft Kelly. If I were Kelly I would've been incredibly insulted by that and that would've been enough to never ever give these flogs the time of day. The Weagles had multiple chances to snatch him from Geelong and they didn't think that highly of him at the time to do so. But I guess money talks and his missus had dreams of being a famous WAG back in Perthling land and that was enough to seal the deal for him.

The Weagles need to be humbled, the way they talk about smaller Melbourne clubs is quite frankly disgusting and hopefully these seasons spent at the bottom of the ladder might instil much needed humility in most Weagles fans that leads to them showing more grace and sympathy to smaller organic clubs from Melbourne.

Eagles are getting 3 priority picks in 2026
Three bags and a neat trick
Half a cup of quick
Paper on tick
Watching a horror flick
With a bloke named mick
And his pal named rick
His brother named Nick
Get a lick?
This post made me sick

Humility and most Eaglez flogs don’t really go together
Delusion and arrogance , absolutely in abundance

It's not even the highest percentage of a salary cap paid to a single player and sits marginally ahead of what Fremantle paid Fyfe as a proportion. Was that crazy money? When it's a club people hate, they'll spin anything and everything whichever way they want.

I’m ambivalent about whether we should get a priority pick, but I would have loved it the last time we won the spoon if the club had publicly said something like “we don’t want a priority pick, we just want the afl to ensure that our second pick will be the 19th pick in the draft”. Let the afl respond to justify why it’s fair for the worst team to have their second pick at 30 due to academies and FA nonsense.

(It wouldn’t work so well this year if we plan to stuff up the draft with our own FA nonsense)
