Round 8 VS Warriors

Over to Van Cortlandt Park this week to take on the Warriors. Uncharacteristically for the Wazzas a somewhat subdued week followed but despite this we had our most active posters for the season with 21 Wonders posting this week! DenieD and Tonga Bob both lead the way for the Warriors with Soggy2112 and ClarkeM both making some quality contributions. After a 3 way trade with the Phoenix and Swamprats, the Wonders continued to welcome home their returning legends, this time with Golumless.

The match was tight for the first 3 quarters with neither team able to take a hold of the match. By 3 quarter time it was the Wonders by 14 points. However the last quarter was all the Wonders with goals to PVF, Loonerty, mike123 & Golumless seeing the Wonders continue their good start to the season.

Round 10 VS Demons

The second week in a row we had a big week in the match thread and lead the posting numbers for the week. The Demons were up to the challenge and had some great posters themselves with rookie damicky leading the posting numbers and holding his 17 questions game while veteran Tarkyn_24 and the bratty Pickitt also put up good numbers. Mozzie19's Quiz Time was a hit while Brenton Davy continued on his impressive debut season and croweater 41 continued his impressive return to form.

The Demons had the upper hand for most of the match, keeping their noses in front until the end of the third when the Wonders took a slender 2 point lead into 3 quarter time. any hope of holding the home team off was lost when we allowed them to kick 6 last quarter goals. Brenton Davy was a beast in his move to on ball with 33 disposals and 8 tackles. Croweater also had a good match with 27 disposals while Loonerty did what he does best and kicked another bag of 5 goals.

The Best Club-person award recognizes somebody who has made great contributions to the club over a period of time. This seasons Best Club-person is croweater 41! Crowie started his qareer at the Wonders over 20 seasons ago and lead the club for seasons 12, 13, 14 & 18. Despite being a veteran of over 400 games, Crowie had a fantastic season often leading the way in the match threads and on the qooty field. His larrikin style of posting was very entertaining throughout the season and he never had any problems calling me out whenever there was a laugh to be had. Thanks for all your efforts of the years Crowie.

Round 13 VS Royals

A rather quiet week against the Royals this week. You only have to note that this was the only week Brenton Davy posted less than 100 times in a match thread for the entire season. PMBangers and krakouers both tried hard for the Royals but in truth this week just didn't click for either team.

The Royals opened their account with 1.9 for the first quarter and continued their woeful accuracy throughout the match. Despite having 5 more scoring shots than the Wonders, the Royals finished the match 35 points behind the Wonders. Brenton Davy activated beast mode as he shifted to the midfield with 30 disposals and 5 frees for. Mozzie also had a good match with 23 possies and 3 goals

Round 14 VS Furies

Rd 14 and the Furies were a little less intense than their first match against us. They still tried hard to push their "school yard bully" schtick but once again we just sat back and watched them make a fool of themselves. Not much else really needs to be said here. ClarkeM put in another solid spam effort topping the post count with 187.

The Furies took a 19 point lead mid way through the first before the Wonders pegged it back to 5 points at the first break. They skipped away to 20 point lead again in the second but the Third quarter was all the Wonders as we went into the last 13 points up. Ultimately the furballs ran out of puff and the Wonders cruised to a 27 point victory. Elmer_Judd had 21 disposals while Mozzie had 28.

Round 15 VS Roys

Rd 15 saw us take on the Roys at Home. Still sitting just outside of the top 4, a third win in a row would certainly put us in a good position for the double chance. The Roys continued to show up in good form, lead by Supersuns, Mobbs, Wosh & TedDougChris. The Wonders also continued in fine form with Brenton Davy & ClarkeM leading the way.

The match didn't start off well for the Wonders, only managing 1.1 for the first quarter verses the Roys 4 goals. The second quarter was a better showing with goals to Frothies Mcveigh, Golumless & BallaratBulldog getting us back in it thanks to the Roys poor goal accuracy. The Roys poor accuracy was our only hope of winning this match with goals hard to come by. Ultimately we fell short by 32 points. It was a sour performance for Loonerty taking home doughnuts when he was within the reach of the Fred.

Round 16 VS Bears

Still sitting in 5th as we reach the final home and away match of the season, this was a must win to push for a double chance. The match thread was a somewhat quiet end to the season. Cap, JoshWoodenSpoon & Broken were the Bears best posters for the week. Brenton Davy once again lead the way and ClarkeM continued to produce the goods.

The Wonders started well, kicking 3 goals to 1 but theres where our form ended. the Bears found another gear in the second quarter and we could not keep up. eventually falling by 29 points. There really were no standout SIM performers this week. We finish the H&A season in 5th place.

First Elimination Final VS East Side Phoenix

Here we are, the First Elimination Final against the Phoenix. The Wonders will be hoping to turn their recent form around in this do or die elimination match. Phoenix rookie thewizardmelon lead the way for the opposition with SM not far behind him. Captain Mozzie put up a tonne for the week while Soggy2112 also had a good week in the match thread.

First quarter saw Frothies Mcveigh put the first goal of the match on the board with Golumless and Brenton Davy also scoring majors. The Phoenix lead by 2 goals at quarter time. Goals to Loonerty, JT_the_Man, haydo and Frothies Mcveigh in the second weren't enough to claw back the lead, 10 points down at the half. Third quarter goals to Soggy2112, jezzajay, ClarkeM & Loonerty saw us peg back the deficit to just 4 points at the final change, it was anyone's game from here. The last quarter started off well with another goal to Frothies Mcveigh to put the Wonders 2 points up. goals to JT_the_Man and Loonerty and suddenly the Wonders were 16 points up with 10 minutes to go. Consecutive goals to the Phoenix had them within 4 points with just a few minutes left on the clock. An arm wrestle ensued for the final minutes as no one could find the scoreboard. It looked like the Wonders would be able to hold off the Phoenix and progress to round 2 of the finals. But this 12 seconds left on the clock, a defensive error saw NinjaSwan take an uncontested handpass on the HFF and run onto a goal to put the Phoenix 2 points up. Ironically the Wonders are knocked out of the finals by the player who had recently agreed to join the Wonders the following season.

BD has shown his class and ability to withstand the antagonistic tactics of the opposition and im sure he has a very bright Wonders qareer ahead of him.
