Round 1 VS Gumbies FFC

The season begins with the Wonders taking on the Gumbies at the house of gumby. Usually the first week of the season is full of excitement and high energy levels resulting in high post numbers in the match thread. Unfortunately this didnt eventuate for us. it wasnt through the lack of trying from the Wonders side, but the Gumbies simply didnt show up. New Wonders rookie Brenton Davy had a ripping debut with 155 posts in his first match thread, while Mozzie, mike123, Loonerty and SSwans2011 all had good numbers. overall 17 Wonders played a part in keeping the match thread going. GWS Goose, omgfridge & Barrybran tried hard for the gumbies. Riviat was a no show, blaming NaturalDisaster for setting his alarm late.

On field we had a number of debutants and returning players. Brenton Davy made his SFA debut, Loonerty & LukeParkerno1 both made their Wonders debut and HawkPatrol made his Wonders return. The Gumbies had the ascendancy in the first half, kicking 5 goals both quarters to the wonders 3 in each quarter but the Wonders turned on the heat in the second half with the Wonders kicking 10 goals to 6 to take a 9 point victory to start the season. Loonerty had a debut to remember with 6 goals at FF while Crusty Undies was everywhere with 22 disposals and a goal.

Round 2 VS Royals

This week we we played our first Home match of the season at the Colosseum against the Gold City Royals. The reigning premiers enjoyed a good off season adding PMBangers as co-captain and MC Bad Genius from the Dragons while also adding a couple of good rookies to the mix and so i expected this to be a good showing and i wasnt disappointed. Brenton Davy continued his outstanding start to the season leading the way with 220 posts while Loonerty, Elmer_Judd & dogs105 all contributed well for the week.

An extremely slow start to the Wonders saw the Royals skip away to an 8 goal lead by 1/4 time. However the Wonders were not to be outplayed so easily and we dug our heels in in the second quarter to slow their momentum and reduce the deficit to 5 goals by half time. They say the third quarter is the premiership quarter and we bought our A game piling on 7 goals to 1 to take the 3/4 time lead by 10 points. The last quarter we just needed to hang on and after a goal for goal shoot out we managed to finish victorious by 9 points to continue our good start to the season. SSwans2011 had a blinder amassing 32 disposals while dogs105 also hit the 30 disposals mark for the game.

Round 3 v Roys FFC

Third round of the season and the wonders took on Roys at the BJO. Rising star Brenton Davy had another posting day out with 135 posts. Whilst Mozzie19 and croweater 41 gave nice support whilst _Mike_ Mobbs and Zevon gave us George completion in the match day posting. Soggy2112 also debuted for the Wonders and showed some promise.

The result was disappointing however as the Wonders couldn’t keep up their form of the first two games of the year and suffered their first of season 32. Surprise packet Elmer_Judd contributed well with three goals from the half forward flank whilst Kangaroos4eva topped the DT charts with 70 off the back of a 22 disposal and whopping 7 mark game from fullback. Soggy2112 on debut gave a nice contribution on the half back flank with 18 touches and stopped a goal with a crucial fingertip in the first quarter. Wonders opened the scoring with the first two goals of the game but struggled to keep the ascendency for the first quarter but struggled after that as they were run over midway in the second term fell off completely in the last a quarter gave up only scoring 1 goal 2 behinds. I’m sure they’ll put in a better effort this upcoming game against the Bears.

The First Award I have to announce tonight is the Croweater 41 Leading Goal Kicker and the winner with 65 Goals for the season is Loonerty. Stationed at Full Forward, Loons was instrumental in a number of the Wonders victories this season. Loons Started off his season and Wonders qareer with a bag of 6 goals which he achieved 3 times throughout and had a high of 8 goals in Rd 12 against the Gumbies. He finished the Season off with 65 goals. Well done Loonerty!

Round 4 VS bears

This round we took on the Bears at the stadium in the sky. It was another huge effort from Brenton Davy while Loonerty and croweater 41 also lead the way during the week. Cap put in a massive effort for the home team while they also had a really good team contribution from Millky95, Electronic_Renaissance & I Dont Care.

We took to the field with a point to prove after a terrible loss last week and the two teams were evenly matched in the first quarter. The Wonders began to kick away in the second and were never really threatened from that point, holding the lead from the 3 minute mark of the second quarter all the way to the end of the match. haydo was massive in the ruck with 26 disposals to go with his 12 HO's while Soggy2112 was prolific from HFF having been moved forward kicking 2 goals and having 16 disposals. In the end the Wonders returned to the winners list.

Round 5 VS furies

Back to the Colosseum this week to take on the Furies and wasn't it some week! the week started off with the Furies ganging up and trying to intimidate Wonders rookie Brenton Davy. It seem BD is really making the league stand up and take notice. not only did BD handle the week like a 400 game veteran he also bested the furies left right and centre. He spent the week baiting them and they swallowed up every he threw hook, line and sinker. Mister M spent the week melting and looking like an absolute dill and his bogan teammate GREENESHOOTS wasnt far behind him. Elton Johns Wig and U2tigers were the only form of quality banter throughout the week while rookie damicky put in a really solid effort but i can only imagine his confusion throughout the week with a clear lack of leadership around him. haydo, Soggy2112 & jezzajay put in a good week with jezzajay also pushing mister melt's buttons after he decided to turn a mole hill into a mountain and just continue to be the general flog that he is. This weeks banter was a clear win to the Wonders.

It was a return to the field of two Wonders legends this week in PVF and Cactus_ and it was great to see them pull the qooty boots back on. PVF was solid with 2 goals while Cactus_ fought on manfully from FB as he was exposed to a barrage of long bombs. Ultimately the Furies were too good on the field but we walked away as the moral victors for the week.

Round 6 VS Swamprats

This week the Swamprats visited the Colosseum. Unlike some previous encounters with these guys, the match thread was fairly active for most of the week. No surprise here to see Brenton Davy lead the way with the posting, the Wonders rookie has taken to the SFA like a duck to water. Soggy2112 also started to pick up as he settled into life as a Wonder, while croweater 41 continued his fine form. SarahSmiles was far and away the most prolific rat for the duration of the week, while Catsnlakers and jackster83 were ever present as well.

The game opened up with the first goal to Loonerty and it took a further 9 minutes for the Swampies to hit back and level the scores. The Swampies pushed out to a 2 goal lead early in the second before back to back goals to haydo and PVF levelled the scores again. all even at the half way mark. The Wonders tried hard to shake them but the opposition just wouldnt go away. 2 late goals saw the Swamprats walk away with the biscuits.

Its always exciting when you get a new rookie onboard for the new season. This season we were lucky enough to have two excellent rookies join the Wonders for S32 in Soggy2112 & Brenton Davy. Both rookies were a resounding success and brought another dimention to the Wonders match threads this season which was recognized with promotion to premium postions on the Qooty field, Soggy to Center and Brenton to Rover. It was a difficult task to split these two as they both had such a great rookie season but ultimately only one could win. Congratulations Brenton Davy!

Round 7 VS Phoenix

For the third week in a row we played at the Colosseum, this week taking on the rebranded East Side Phoenix and hoping to turn our luck around after 2 loses at home. We welcomed back a Wonders legend this week in Frothies Mcveigh. The week was once again topped by Brenton Davy while dogs105 put in a good week. eth-dog was the main contributor for the Phoenix while SM & NinjaSwan were both present throughout the week.

The match did not start out the way we wanted with the Phoenix piling on the goals from the get go to pull away to a 42 point lead most of the way through the second quarter. A captains goal to Mozzie19 put the Wonders back on track while Loonerty and Brenton Davy both put one through the big sticks to give the Wonders a fighting chance heading into the half time break. A goal to Golumless put the Phoenix 31 points up to start the third and put the pressure on the Wonders, but we help our nerve and started to put the pressure back on the opposition with 4 goals in a row and suddenly the Wonders were back in it at the last break. In the end the Wonders walked away 4 point victors with Marklar_33 the unlikely hero, booting 5 for the home team.

Round 8 VS Warriors

Over to Van Cortlandt Park this week to take on the Warriors. Uncharacteristically for the Wazzas a somewhat subdued week followed but despite this we had our most active posters for the season with 21 Wonders posting this week! DenieD and Tonga Bob both lead the way for the Warriors with Soggy2112 and ClarkeM both making some quality contributions. After a 3 way trade with the Phoenix and Swamprats, the Wonders continued to welcome home their returning legends, this time with Golumless.

The match was tight for the first 3 quarters with neither team able to take a hold of the match. By 3 quarter time it was the Wonders by 14 points. However the last quarter was all the Wonders with goals to PVF, Loonerty, mike123 & Golumless seeing the Wonders continue their good start to the season.

Round 9 VS Bombers

In typical fashion it was a very busy match thread with the Bombers this week. However it was a surprisingly easy going week. The Bombers and Wonders have had some cracker match threads in the past and not surprising the Wonders have walked away victorious on all occasions, sending the Bombers off to lick their wounds. This week however the Bombers conceded defeat changed their tune from the outset as it was a far less aggravated thread to previous encounters. Brenton Davy hit a double tonne, Soggy2112 really hit his stride almost posting a tonne while Loonerty and haydo got right in on the action.


There's not a lot to say about the Bombers here, they were atrocious from the start. RobR kicked the first of the match but it was all the Wonders from then. The Wonders piled on 28 goals to 11 for our best performance of the season, finishing 104 point victors. PVF dominated with 31 disposals while haydo had 24 disposals, 5 tackles and 3 goals. Golumless and Loonerty kicked 6 goals while Kangaroos4eva kicked 5. it really was a demolition all over the park.

The Captains award is awarded to somebody the Captain wishes to recognize for any reason he feels deserves recognition. This seasons winner is Soggy2112. Soggy Joined the Wonders late in round 3. Sogs, as I have affectionately named him, took to the SFA like a duck to water averaging 40 ppw and all of his posts were of a high quality. He Knew exactly how to antagonize the opposition but also new exactly when to back off and have a casual chat. Congratulations Sogs!

Round 10 VS Demons

The second week in a row we had a big week in the match thread and lead the posting numbers for the week. The Demons were up to the challenge and had some great posters themselves with rookie damicky leading the posting numbers and holding his 17 questions game while veteran Tarkyn_24 and the bratty Pickitt also put up good numbers. Mozzie19's Quiz Time was a hit while Brenton Davy continued on his impressive debut season and croweater 41 continued his impressive return to form.

The Demons had the upper hand for most of the match, keeping their noses in front until the end of the third when the Wonders took a slender 2 point lead into 3 quarter time. any hope of holding the home team off was lost when we allowed them to kick 6 last quarter goals. Brenton Davy was a beast in his move to on ball with 33 disposals and 8 tackles. Croweater also had a good match with 27 disposals while Loonerty did what he does best and kicked another bag of 5 goals.

Round 11 VS Dragons

This week was another good encounter with the Dragons. We always have a good week with this mob. serial_thrilla T2B_ A Swallow & Bonz all put in a good week for the dragons while croweater 41 Soggy2112 ClarkeM & Cactus_ were prominent for the Wonders.

Despite the great efforts of last week, this week was the polar opposite. it seems some of the Wonders forgot to turn up on the field. croweater 41 & ClarkeM tried hard on the day but we just had too many passengers, ultimately going down by 10 goals.

Round 12 VS Gumbies

Rd 12 and the Wonders are sitting at 6-5 and in 5th position and taking on the last placed Gumbies at home. In somewhat of an inspired move, Wonders captain Mozzie19 had a chat to veteran ClarkeM and the move paid off in spades when the Wonders legend chimed into the match thread to post a whopping 450 times. Some will say spam is spam but honestly as a once off it was amazing to see, even the opposition enjoyed. Well done Clarkey, keep it up! Despite the spam fest we had another game of 20 contributors for the week for the 3rd time this season, proving the strength of the Wonders list. Riviat was the best of the opposition with 122 posts which was great to see considering he missed the opening match of the season.

Looking to extend our winning record and hunt down a spot in the top 4 seemed an easy task considering we were taking on the last placed Gumbies outfit but unfortunately for us it was not to be. The Gumbies took an early 2 goal lead at quarter time and extended it to a 3 goal lead at the half. The Wonders spent the entire game trying to play catch up but ultimately lost by 4 goals. Loonerty put in a huge 8 goal performance to give himself a sniff of the Fred medal. Unfortunately that's where the good performances stopped.
