This is purely hypothetical, but assuming no one gets injured and everyone plays to there recent form.

I think we need a CHF a FF a Rover ,Ruck Rover and another Ruckman

The back line should work and if the forward line improved we could hold it in longer relieving pressure.
Obviously we need to improve our centre clearances last year to stop us getting it out of the centre you just stood near Mitchell and waited to tackle him as Spider would hit him consitantly.
I would keep Spider but a second good ruckman would make us less predictable.
We desperately need a Forward Target or 2

All these may already be at the club but I am dreaming of whtwe need to win the Grand Final.

CHF and FF.

We have a FB and CHB. Straighten the spine and the rest will fall into place.

The reason the Eagles are expected to do so well this year is because of their spine developing and strengthening. They have had the same midfield for the past three? years but have suffered with KPP. Now they have a bunch of tall kids who have played 2-3 seasons and they are expected to benefit.

Application and Attitude.

exactly what i was thinking. A group of players that realise that they have to improve their footy on an individual basis but more importantly as a team.

Yes it helps to pick up a black, voss, akermanis, tredrea, cornes, james etc but most of the game is mental.

Port was a team of nobody's 8 years ago (except wanganeen) and with the constant desire to get to the top is the main reason we got there.

Teams can turn it around pretty quickly, now days just look at Pussys and Weagles they will be in the mix this year, and not too far of the big one in the next few.
2001 had us pretty close and a bit of bad umpiring in the 1st quarter (Dons Final) probably cost us a birth and who knows what might have happened.

I am pretty happy with the backline I think it can hold most teams to a manageable score
With a FF,CHF we are nearly there.
I am happy we are going for strenghth because without the grunt you cant win the big one
Remember;Dipper,Dermie,Ayres, P.Dear, Intimidated there opponants
Dunstall, Mew and Langford ,even Tuck could hold there own
They dominated physically on each line.
I cant wait for the next generation of Horrible Hawks.

Draft picks, they're the go.

Just what Brisbane, Collingwood, Fremantle, Port Adelaide, St. Kilda, West Coast, Richmond, Carlton, Melbourne, Bulldogs in the past 7 years. They were like yous and now there powerful, expect some have dropped down again like Collingwood. Collingwood couldn't win a grand final two years in a row :D , is it a mathematical chance to make the finals?

Yes, unfortunately it seems the only solution is to cheat and hang around the bottom of the ladder and then get rewarded for shxthouse on field performance.

However, there is a beacon of hope in the great leader. Surely it wont be long before Comrade Demetriou deems that teams will alternately win flags over 16 years in the interests of an even competition. In the mean time I wouldnt rule out another rule stating that if you are losing by more than 40 points at half time each goal you can start level with the other team in the 3rd quarter just in the interests of "equity".

We have some real pesimists dont we
look at Carlton they really where pigs arse only a few years ago it dont take much to get them up they really only drafted rejects and one good one.
It wont take as long as most think although there will be a bad year or two

We need to wait and let our young talls develop. As well as this we must pick up a good, back-up ruckman for when Spider retires and some classy, speedy outside midfielders who can kick a football.
We basically have the rest, just need to trim the hedges and get rid of the dead wood.

Looking forward to a 2007 forward line that looks a little like this.
HF: Franklin - Roughead - Miller
FF: Williams - Boyle - Brennan

Skill, flair, pace, marking power, strength, accuracy.
All the makings of a sensational forward line, and one that will trouble many AFL teams in the years following.
