This is ridiculous.
While they claim to trial these rules in “dead rubber” out of finals contention games, the truth is that every game has the potential to affect the finishing position of the club.
And that means position of draft picks. And position relating to the fixture in 2019.
Just another AFL rules on the run mentality.
Is there any professional competition that introduces radical rules in their regular season?
And is there any professional competition that has different rules for different games in the same f’ing round?
Amateur hour.

I would much rather roll back rules like nominate in the ruck. If a third man goes up, free kick.

The other would be to interpret or stricker enforcement of incorrect disposal/holding the ball or whatever the rule is called.

Anyway, it seems on the news tonight, they couldn't get agreement.

When you lie with dogs you catch flees. Seven and Fox overpaid to keep nine out and now they want more viewers to make sure they get their return. So they dictate new rule changes and other crap. It was their tinkering with the rules, letting Sydney get away with throws so that they can win a premiership and stay relevant in NSW that was the beginning of the current congestion issue. Now that the interpretation of incorrect disposal and holding the ball is in place the game has improved significantly and there is less congestion. Surprise surprise.

How can football be the greatest game in the world if it’s always changing the rules.

I think they should trial the musical chairs rule.
Whilst the music is playing the existing rules apply, then when the music stops, the new rules kick in & all players must immediately return to their starting position zones (the last player back has to leave the field).

Gil clearly hasn't thought this through - especially with the respect to the "there are games that don't matter so we should be able to trial stuff in them" line of thought.

Football at any level is basically an exercise in reproducing what is done at training throughout the year as much as possible - how he would expect teams to prepare for significant rule changes in some games and play the game under the current rules in others is both mind boggling and ignorant in equal measure.
