That Fremantle are routinely treated like filth by the umpires and AFL administration and we won't win a flag until Demetriou pisses off from AFL Headquarters

The OP asked for unpopular opinions - not bats*** crazy ones.

Have a look at the grossly unprofessional, duplicitous and unethical way your administration routinely operates- the sacking of Damien Drum (who had to find out his fate from the media, rather than being told to his face) and (underhanded) poaching of Ro$$ Lyon being particularly egregious examples. Also look at the abysmal recruiting and player management decisions your club has made to see why Femantle has only played in a handful of finals in fifteen years.

Clearly fits unpopular opinion as you felt the need to deride it

Unfortunately a lot of my opinions are popular so I went left-field. Deal with it.

No they haven't. Less than 7000 people bothered to watch GWS play the Eagles on a perfectly fine day. At the opening of their new stadium, against one of the AFL's most popular teams, they only managed to draw about 12,000.

It rained at the opening of their new stadium. It rained yesterday in Sydney and Penrith drew 5,000 people to their NRL game. The Giants are in their first year and have won only one game, the Suns in their second and are winless. Give it time.
Too many teams in NSW and Queensland

Equal to league games, pitty you're not playing in the NRL, this is the AFL where League crowds don't cut it. Brisbane 20491, Sydney 20317, GWS 14939 and Gold Coast 13296 are the 4 lowest average home attendances in the league despite Brisbane and Sydney playing up there for 25-30 years plus. Before rubbishing Vic clubs look at your own state and remember where the money came from for you even to have a club up there.

Sydney's home ground is under redevelopment. Last year with no capacity restraints they had the highest average attendance of any sporting club in Sydney. When Brisbane were flying they regularly sold out the Gabba, the crowds will return when they're playing well again.

That it's basically a bogan game, played and watched mainly by bogans.

I assume this is an unpopular opinion because my post saying that got deleted from the "booing injuries" thread within a couple of minutes. But it's true.

1. Demetriou has been fantastic for the game and should be regarded as the best chief that the AFL has ever had.

2. There is far too much ridiculing of umpires here and I think they consistently do a good job week in week out. We harp on about their crap calls but never give praise for the good calls they make.

3. On that note, the MRP are also doing a better job than is often portrayed in difficult circumstances. They probably get more analysis and armchair commentators than actual Supreme Court judicial trials.

4. Struggling Victorian clubs should move interstate and if not voluntarily so, the AFL should force the issue after conducting feasiblity tests, market research, etc etc

The importance of ruckmen and captains is highly overstated.

Captains, I cant comment on but, you honestly don't see the importance of ruckmen?

I did say overstated - not at all. Anyway from what I can gather here's not a place to debate ruckmen.

1) too many teams in Melbourne. Need to merge, move or fold and bring the amount of teams down so we can either play each other twice or something suitable to fix the schedule.

2) not sure if this is unpopular or not but 3 weeks of byes? GTFO. my DT is fked :D

3) need Monday night football or Thursday night football on a weekly basis. Get rid of the twilight Sunday game and use either the Thursday or Monday to replace it

2) Home games should be classified as those where you do not leave the state. Therefore, currently the Eagles play 12 home games, whereas teams like Collingwood play 18 home games. Then to balance this out, the Vicorian teams would have to travel sometimes twice to play Sydney, West Coast, etc to make travelling fair.

1 - Demetriou is doing a fantastic job
2 - Banners should be scrapped save for finals / milestones of 100 games or more
3 - That if you join a competition where the 13 rival clubs are all over 3000 kilometres away you should probably get used to the idea that you will travel a lot and not whine about it, nor expect other teams to travel more to somehow "compensate you". *

* May only be unpopular in WA

Some of those interstate markets would fail the feasibiluty tests even worse than in victoria

1) Geelong is a really boring team to watch.

2) I actually like Collingwood and their status as the 'hated' team. They're like a heel in the WWE. They make the game interesting and they generate interest and boost crowd levels for every team they play.

3) Grand Finals between two Victorian teams is boring and it's basically bad for football.
