When did Collingwood last land a big fish

Didn't mean to upset you, just pointing out that the vast majority of players say they play for one reason and that is to win a flag - and a club with 1 in over 50 years is not exactly attractive. As for Paul Connors - who is that? His opinion (whoever he is) carries about as much weight as yours and mine - zero!! By the way, Choco only declared Peter Burgoynes brother as our best player once he knew he wanted out - oldest trick in the book to boost his value come trade week. Good to see Hawthorn weren't the only ones to fall for it. With his knee he'll be lucky to see out 2010 let alone his whole contract. Thanks for coming Hawks. Oh, and good luck Collingwood in 2010 - always enjoy seeing the less successful clubs do well.

How many clubs have nominated Port Adelaide as their club of choice?

I can think of three in this trade period alone that nominated Collingwood, all big names too;
Fevola, Ball and Jolly.

And how many players have elected to leave our club for another more successful club as well?
Burgyone didn't want to stay at Port, Josh Carr didn't want to be at Port, Brad Symes etc

had to check that i wasnt in bay 13 for a minute,
is the op serious ? then i see he's a freo supporter talking about big fish .
you should be talking about the ones who got away holland, clement medhurst ,
i dont even barrack for collingwood, but i think they just landed a quality ruckman in jolly.
as a swans fan i am really sad to see jolly leave us , he was a great player for us. by the way , he is also a quality person.
i hope he has a successful career at the pies but hopefully not at the swans expense

FWIW, snaring Judd took us to our first finals series in 8 years, but like Collingwood we didn't win the premiership this season, so I guess, like Collingwood, we have achieved nothing (there is only one winner each season).

Yup, We got to expirience the same kind of finals euphoria as you guys blew a 6 goal fourth quarter lead, and we snagged a famous win in the death against the crows.

Septopia!!!!!

(Welcome Darren Jolly btw, the club with no ruckman now has Jolly, Fraser and Wood. Uh-oh)

Geelong's best and biggest fish was spending 60K back in late 1983 to Hawthorn for a bloke who had played six uneventful games for the Hawks in 1982. Subsequently Geelong has now enjoyed over 400 games from the combined Gary Abletts, with hopefully many more to come!!

Pies should have gone after Ball much harder.

Definitely lacking another hard midfielder like Ball.

Hawks get reputation of not offering enough in trades (which I'm not sure why as there aren't many examples of that) when Pies rarely give up anything at the table at all when it comes to their turn.

If Ball didn't have a real problem with his body and could kick further than I can these days (which aint far), maybe. But that's not the situation, sadly for Luke Ball. Just because you say we "should have" doesn't make it so. Pies offered what they thought was fair, and apparently even bumped it up to St Kilda's earlier asking price of Goldsack and 30 (which is more than I wanted us to offer) - denied. No deal, so what? We really don't "need" Luke Ball.

To the Freo and Port supperters (glad there's till such a thing as a "Port supporter") trying to troll Collingwood for our recruiting history... Darren Jolly says hi.

Brad Ottens. We probably wouldn't have won either flag without him, either.

Look, trading for big fish can win flags (SEE: Barry Hall), but it needs to be timed perfectly.
brad ottens turned out to be a big fish but was anything but at the time.. he was ordinary at richmond.

darren jolly is a big fish. one of the leading ruckman in the competition.

What a joke of a thread, hmmmm lets see in the last 15 years we snagged one Nathan Buckley who had just won the rising star award and every team in the league wanted him, where did he end up? collingwood. In 2002 we landed just a casual brownlow medalist from 2 years before. If he wasn't a big fish at the time, i dont know who is. And you could even call Darren Jolly a top 3 Ruckman in the league as a big fish. Get your facts straight before posting crap.

End Thread

Going back through history i would say Buckley is their biggest fish (coll), but they have missed out on Lockett, Quinlan, Judd etc etc etc.

All 3 could have won them a premiership at different times, what the hell is going on down there.

There's probably around a dozen more (high profile)that for one reason or another the pies did not get.

St Kilda stuffed up not accepting 30 + Goldsack which was a fair trade. End of story.

Of course Collingwood hasn't landed a "big fish" like Judd because we our club values quaint notions like loyalty, integrity and honour whereas other clubs value notions such as prejudice, bias and bigotry when dealing with us in trade week.

Getting a ruckman who got 52 taps against us this year just shows how deficient we have been and how very threatening we will be in 2010. Plus he can take a decent mark and kick goals: http://bigpondvideo.com/AFL?url=IVi...711,311712,315216,316080,316081,317523,317524

If you think Swan, Pendles, Davis and Didak were good in the middle before, wait until you see us with a proper tap ruckman. Not to mention up and coming mids Thomas, Beams and Sidebottom.

Well according to Paul Connors no one at all wants to go to Port. No one at all. gee even your best player couldn't wait to get out of that cesspit.

Yeah, Shaun was our best player alright!... At dogpaddling in a pool of creamy hype - but only if it wasn't too cold, or too hot, or too hard. Good on him though. :thumbsu:

Two grand finals in the last 5 years for one flag - thanks for asking. So we have achieved as much in the last 5 years as your mob have in over 50 years.
