Okay so this thread is about which club has got the best young players. But it's hard to analyze every single club simply because its far too time consuming for me. So I placed every team's name in a hat, and came up with FOUR teams that I'm placing in this poll, so it's out of these four sides.

Young meaning 22 & under, I'll place each clubs top 5 young prospects (based on draft selection) and as unbiased as possible, named your most promising.

1. West Coast
2. Essendon

Think there is a bit of a gap here, mainly because the above 2 have five really good prospects, whilst I believe the other 2 teams haven't got 5 really good ones, more 2-3 outstanding, then a few solid ones.

3. Richmond
4. Melbourne

Westcoast - Has 5 Elite players in the making. Scott Selwood is damn underrated, even by our own supporters. Seriously the kids is a gun.
Essendon - Has 4; don't rate Zaharakis as highly but he will be a good B+ to A- player.
Richmond - Has 2 in Martin & Cotchin, questions marks on other 3 although they will be good players and overall is a better 5 than Melbourne's
Melbourne - Trengrove is the standout while Watts and Gysberts have shown signs they will. Tappscott will be solid and Morton is just crap.

Considering Melbourne has had higher draft picks their recruiting thus seems disappointing. Cale Morton = Fail.

Odd. Removing Zaharakis then....you think Melksham is elite in the making?

Pears is also very overrated. Has had 1 decent season.

West Coast. Best ruckman in that group of players listed, best tagger/tackler, the third best mid listed there (Shuey behind Cotchin and Martin), Gaff looks very classy and whilst I have a couple of question marks over Darling he still had an excellent debut year (tapered off a little, but it is just his first season).

Richmond have the best mids there and potentially a very good mobile forward in Vickery (I don't think he will ever be a dominant ruckman). Whilst the others mentioned are all resonable players, I don't see them becoming stars or anything particularly special.

Essendon have the two best key position players in that group there so that counts for a hell of a lot. Midfield prospects are by no means bad either. I would have them in second simply thanks to having two young big bodied skillful KP prospects (possibly in the league).

Melbourne's group is OK. Trengove is the standout there, huge frame, they have a quality ready made replacement for Brent Moloney when he retires. Watts will be OK, when he has another forward alongside him, would want to see him come on a bit next year with Clark there and I think he will. Should include Stefan Martin in there as well, i didn't rate him until this year, but he improved a lot and gave Jamar some much needed chop out. Morton hasn't come on at all at AFL level, outside player who panics under pressure. I don't see what others see in Gysberts, more of an outside reciever with reasonable skills and pretty limited hurt factor. They will miss Scully a lot.

In summary, none of the teams are in a bad position with their future talent but this is how I rate them:
1. West Coast (best overall quality there)
2. Essendon (best KPP players at both ends)
3. Richmond (best midfielders)
4. Melbourne (promise, but behind in relation to the other teams)

Although I began the thread, I might aswell throw in my two cents.

Underrated

1. Scott Selwood is one of the most underrated players in the competition. 8.1 tackles on average a game? He tagged Juddy out of the semi final too. A very impressive player and the kind you need when challenging for the premiership.

2. Tyrone Vickery is rarely rated by quite a majority of bigfooty, but when you watch him play, his agility is breathtaking and he takes towering contested marks. He slots through goals and once he can pick up his endurance, he maybe able to play up the ground more often.

3. David Zakarakis was not rated by someone here? He won the B&F and is an absolute gem, go the greeks!

4. Jordan Gysberts is constantly under the radar, but plays his role and does it well. Melbourne did well with him.

I would go with this ranking system, first year players obviously are affected because we havent seen them in full flight...and of course then we have Cale Morton who I just don't rate highly..

1. West Coast
Nic Nat - 8.5
Shuey - 8.4
Selwood - 8.4
Darling 8.0
Gaff - 7.9

West Coast - 82.4%

2. Richmond
Cotchin - 8.5
Martin - 8.5
Vickery - 8.3
Rance 8.0
Conca - 6.5

Richmond - 79.6%

3. Essendon
Hurley - 8.4
Zakarakis - 8.1
Heppell - 7.7
Melksham - 7.6
Pears - 7.0

Essendon - 77.6%

4. Melbourne
Trengove - 8.2
Watts - 7.6
Gysberts - 7.3
Tapscott - 6.8
Morton - 5.5

Melbourne 70.8%

Not the OP's question but Christensen, Duncan, Menzel and Vardy all from the 2009 draft give Geelong a lot to work with in the future.

Personally i reckon in the OP..

West Coast (Nic Nat the most potential as a tall)

Richmond

Essendon

Melbourne.

1. Richmond - Martin is the best player listed by a mile, Cotchin is a gun and Vickery is going to be great.

2. Essendon - Hurley and Zaharakis are great players and Heppell & Melksham have shown a fair bit.

3. WC - players listed are move even, no real standouts. Not much in it between these 3 teams.

daylight

4. Melbourne

Alot of better players to include than Morton and even Tapscott tbh,

Jurrah, Grimes (yeah he is injured), Mckenzie is rated very highly

Odd. Removing Zaharakis then....you think Melksham is elite in the making?

Pears is also very overrated. Has had 1 decent season.

Considering he's been permanently injured since his second season it's no surprise Pears hasn't followed up on his good work in 09
