AFL is really quick to discard coaches once they have had a go and haven't had success. It's pretty ruthless, and they seem to prefer young guys to the older more experienced heads. In other sports like NFL, alot of the head coaches are quite old, and that experience is valued.

There are a number of coaches who have been discarded who I think could well be successful if they were given another go, or I was surprised haven't had another go.
For example, Choco Williams, Don Pike are two who I think absolutely had/have more to offer.

Who else is worth another shot?

I'm not sure the appetite is going to be great for this given we have Voss, Lyon and B Scott all currently given a 2nd chance and doing mediocre jobs .

Are there any senior coaches that failed their first time doing well at a 2nd club ?

It depends what success is. Only a flag or will some teams just be happy to make finals / win a final?

From memory, Lethal & Malthouse are the last two coaches to get a flag at their 2nd club after winning one previously. Malthouse took 11 years though.

I can’t think of any recent flag winning coaches who went to a 2nd club but didn’t win one at their first (Malthouse did this with WC). Ross Lyon got close.

I still think it can be the right move if it’s a stepping stone for the club, I recon Dimma might at least get GC into finals. I recon someone will pick up Longmire at the end of this year.

I think he was a good coach and harshly done by at Collingwood.
Let's also not pretend that Pies didn't tank in 2021 to get Nick, so can't use that season as a guide for anything.
Had them top 4 three times and top 6 four times in 9 seasons (ignoring 2021 obviously). Played finals 5 times and built the team back to finals side after 4 years in a row of missing finals. One of the few coaches I could happily listen to in post game interviews. Was always open and honest and seemed to have a very good understanding of the game.

Strange thought given he was gifted his position initially.

Nick Daicos was already tied to the club as a father son. We didn’t need to tank to get him he was coming regardless.

His results were flattered by taking over a a top team at the end. He ended up breaking up the team and left them in wilderness for those 4 years only to find something that works and break down that team once again.

Enjoy hearing Carlton lowering their colours and getting butted at the contest.

Only one I can think of would be David Parkin. Although seeing he did win a premiership as coach in 1978 at Hawthorn. His stint at Carlton was more successful though.

Pretty dumb trading their first pick out and then tanking. They could have had Callaghan & Daicos.
