I never thought the prelim was going to be a problem.
Always thought the GF was.

Less confident than last year and way less than 07.

But that form from last night (which was early 08 type form) has pulled me back in.

We'll crack their zone in the first half and have them doubting themselves at half time.

At this stage I'm more confident than last year (I tipped the Hawks) and less confident than 07 (naturally).

I really thought we were gonna towel the young Hawks up last year and exorcise the ghosts of 1989. Though our thrashing of the Pies has restored a bit of confidence, I've got the nagging doubts only a long-suffering Geelong supporter in Grand Final Week could know.

Will we or won't we?

The head says 'Yes!!' but the heart's in turmoil. I hope the players are confident but not cocky. I hope the team dosen't underestimate their opposition and I hope they don't act like it's already in the bag. I might well be full of shit here, but I think the team did both of those things last year - and they paid for it with a loss.

I rate St Kilda as an opponent. It's going to be a hard slog. We've overcome all our injury woes and will field our best 22 minus only Josh Hunt. We CAN win, but we MUST bring our A-game.

We can't let the Sainters get the jump on us like they did in Round 14.

Agree with this and I reckon the Cats' best chance is to get the jump on the Saints. I can't remember a top side from this year having a substantial lead on the Saints at any stage of a game this year. The only times to have jumped St Kilda appear to be the less talented teams (Brisbane, Richmond, North, Essendon) two of whom managed to cling on for the win. But, if the Cats can get out to a three goal lead at quarter time and extend it to five or six at the break, I think it will be interesting to see how St Kilda responds.

In one of those big picture views, it's impossible to overstate the importance of this game. The 2000 Essendon premiership and 2007 Geelong premiership, to some extent could be downgraded over time, as those two sides came up against possibly the two weakest gf opponents in the AFL era. If Geelong wins on Saturday, they will have done it against one of the best.

One thing I do like is the recent losses and the talk of us being done for.

That can only tune their senses.

Last year was just non stop *give them the cup now*

It has to have an effect mentally.

If hope had anything to do it with it = 10 goals! in 2007 l thought we would underneath my nerves. Last year l felt shocking about the Hawks the whole year. Just felt like they had us and hated it inside myself! l think we will this year. Our form is good, we have nice momentum and we played with that killer instinct for the first time in a while. Hungry and hard running. If we do that l think we will win (or go down to an incredible effort from them l guess). Ummmmm. Yep.

Paging Mr Lid. Mr Lid to BFF.

Dear god where is the lid?

i hope we can get up, i really think this is a fantastic group and they have allready delivered us a mighty flag..., i hope they can muster one more gargantuan effort and cement themselves as one of the most talented, driven and commited sides this magnificent club has ever assembled. Lets not underestimate the feeling we will get if Bobby gets to hand Harls the Cup, it would be absolutely inspiring, and we can feel redeemed from the anomaly that was the 08 Grandfinal.

CARN THE CATTERS!!!!

Yes, I'm a pessimistic but being objective I feel St Kilda will win.

In '07 I backed us to beat Port, last year I backed us to beat Hawthorn though I was very cautious (reminded myself not to be pessimistic) but my worst fears came true.

This time we are up against it to kick a winning score. Defence wins flags. Always, last year our backline went to pieces in the GF. For my mind, its still quite shaky. Scarlett and Boris will always get the job done. Milburn is reliable. Its Mackie, Kelly, Harley, Taylor I'm worried about. I don't know about them under the fierce pressure St Kilda will apply to them.

St Kilda's backline on the other hand is near inpenetratable. Don't know why. Its just impossible for anyone to score against the bastards. Our midfield goal-kickers help us in this sense. key position forwards are easily nullified by the Saints and I doubt Mooney or Hawkins will have much of an effect on this game. Conversely, Saints will look for Riewoldt and Kosi every time. If the game is close in teh last quarter, which I expect it will be, the Saints will have the advantage of being able to bomb it long to big targets. Typically, we have to find ways to maunfacture goals. Hawk and Moons are not reliable shots.

I really hope we have a plan for Sam Fisher by the way. Surely we have learnt our lesson from the Luke Hodge debacle, St Kilda mustnt be able to stroll out of our forwardline.

The first half against Collingwood showed me still that, when a team is willing to apply pressure on our ball carriers we are far from impressive. We ran away and were made to look good on the weekend. The same will not happen against the Saints. People tipping us by 'plenty' or even 5 goals are having a lend. We all remember the "shark' analogy. If its stops it dies. I fear that St Kilda will strangle our forward supply whilst using precision to hurt us the other way. I do not think the game will live up to the hype. If St Kilda get us much as 3 goals up, I'm guessing they'll be able to hold us at arms length. It is absolutely crucial that we race out of the blocks and force St Kilda to change their structure. Because I reckon otherwise they will wear us down, stop us, and we will die

Fast start to win. If not, the Saints will have it.

i agree - collingwood are crap and they were very tired. st kilda are a force this year, but if we break them early it's game on!!!

thats a bit of a downer of a read....

bolded - i think that chappy and bartel will be key for us. if it's the type of game where we're bombing it long we should throw both those guys in the forward line. they're both great marks overhead

to the OP - i reckon we will get up. i can't fathom the thought we wouldn't.

It is our 7th Grand Final in 21 years clearly the most in that time. We just have to win.

This is something I'm trying to avoid thinking about. Another GF loss and the underachiever/choker tag is stamped, no matter how unfair that is.

In reality last year's flag was the only one in this20 year period we choked, but failure to capitalise on opportunities has been endemic of this club for too long. Its time we snatched a flag that wasnt ours. This is our chance to do that.

Five Reasons Why Geelong WILL win

1. The GF is a two horse race and anything can happen - just look what happened in 2008.
2. In R 14 we showed we could match the Saints, without Ottens and Stevie J, and on the Saints home turf.
3. We have hit a purple patch of form at the right time. Our 1st Qtr v Bulldogs was excellent, our 2H v Magpies was vintage. Our champions are in form.
4. Riewoldt knee is suspect - he is THE most important player for the Saints. Need I say more....
5. The Saints will be nervous, very nervous. Cats will jump them in Q1....

Yes we should.

Though we should of beaten hawks last year. I hate this week it seems to last for ever while im desperately trying to find something to take my mind off football.

Probably shouldnt be here on the geelong forum then, bad start.
