Can Crows fans tell us about their midfield?

i cant work it out at all.

At the end of 2022 Keays was playing fwd and Hately SANFL.

Who the hell is actually in the Crows first choice midfield?

For transparency sake I already think Sloane is well and truly cooked.
Laird, Berry, Schoenberg, Keays would be the main 4 inside mids (rotating 1 off the bench)... but talk we will also rotate Rankine, Rachele & hopefully Pedlar through midfield, even though mainly forward. Sloane probably similar.

Soligo & Dawson mainly off wings, with other rotating through.

Lol, best to stop posting on the Crows as just showing how you have nfi!

Yeah, we only had 4 promising players lol.

Soligo & Berry both showed last year they will be long term midfielders. Schoenberg goes OK. Watch out for Pedlar this session as for once injury free touch wood. Taylor is the one I'm looking forward to debuting this year. So plenty of midfield prospects.
No offence and they might be awesome, but Pedlar and Taylor are years away if ever..

Any club fan can just name random youngsters.

That's a pretty shit midfield at this stage.

Ps. My side would be something like

B: Jones, Butts, Murray
HB Smith, Worrell, Doedee
C: Soligo, Keays, Dawson
HF: Rankine, Walker, Thilthorpe
F: McAdam, Fogarty, Rachele
R: O'Brien, Berry, Laird
I: Hinge, Schoenberg Milera, Sloane
Sub: Taylor

Rankine, Rachele, Schoenberg, Milera & Sloane also rotate through the midfield.

They are not random. Same starting midfield as last season if you were watching us. We are rebuilding so of course most are young!

This year Rankine added to the mix & Sloane likely to play through too.

Pedlar will be our most important midfielder. You will soon be talking about him as he is a real point of difference.

So defensive.
I never said you only had 4 promising players. You’re projecting in your defensiveness.

Pedlar played 5 games last year and didn’t exactly light it up, did he?
Schoenberg regressed. Berry had a decent year and has to back it up, but he’s not star quality.

I truly feel dumber for reading your posts.

Seems I’ve hit a sore point even mentioning the Crows.

I’m sure you’re hyped about what Pedlar might become, just like you would’ve been about McAsey, Jones, Milera.

Crows are strongly in the conversation for worst list in the comp, and that midfield that you’ve neglected in the draft is probably the biggest question mark.

Pedlar only played 1 game last year as a small forward in round 2, So I genuinely have no idea what stats you're looking at, He would be a best 22 lock if his body hadn't let him down since arriving at the club, He offers a real point of difference in our midfield and everyone is excited to what he has displayed when fit

Schoenberg stagnated this year but that is mostly from off field drama, We already know what he can offer

Berry reminds me a bit of Newcombe, Albeit probably a year behind in development and age but similar players who can reach similar heights, Is Newcombe star quality to you?

Crows haven’t invested enough early picks in mids IMO. Similar scenario to Hawks until recently.

sure… North have but are they any good. Hopefully LDU can pull consistent performances together. Thomas, your funky Academy guy, has talent but is ratty on and off the park. Phillips has talent but is at square one of his development. Ditto Wardlaw. Meanwhile the game has passed Cunnington. Who else is in your mids. Oh yep, the Simpkin guy who can’t kick over a jam tin and is a butcher boy with the ball. Clarko won’t tolerate him and he will want or be encouraged to move.

Finding one example does not make it a poor decision, particularly when that deal is likely due to Hawkins wanting the ability to retire this year if he chooses considering the rumours he was considering it last year.

I’d say it’s very unlikely anyone bar Hawkins that got AA’s in those two years are getting one year deals.

Stating a two year deal is unreasonable on output when he’s been AA the two years prior to last is stupid.
Boak was a 2020 AA and is on a one year deal for 2023, signed last year.

Sheppard was also AA in 2020. He was on a one year deal at the end of 2021 and retired before the 2022 season started due to concussion. He's younger than Nic Nat.

I just don't see how you can argue that there is any reason to have him on a 2 year deal?

Nick just running onto the ground gets the cash registers cachinking!
He is a West Coast supporters dream.
We actually need him for the next two years to mentor the young upcoming ruckman and I for one am happy to see him running around for the next two seasons 😀
Another knee though and that will be the end.
Not for Nic, his cash register will still be cachinging till near the end of 2024.

So neither AA in 2021? Cheers.

Sheppard is a very specific case, reaching hard if you think that’s comparable.

Naitanui was a top ten player in the comp in 2021 the last time he was uninsured, to be able to sign him for only 2 years is a luxury, also likely decreases his salary as if he comes back and dominates this season (which he has in basically every healthy season he’s had the last 10 years) he will still demand a decent price.

Signing him up for two gives him some extra security and likely saves us a bit of coin in the process.

If Fyfe was out of contract in 2020 would you have had him on one year contracts since?

One year contract at the end of this season?

You really did take those academy comments worse then they were intended.

Well at least you’ve got a fresh irritation and don’t have to keep picking at your old north scabs for a bit. Be well Horace.

I gave you a specific player with 20/21 on a one year deal and you complained. Sheppard is very comparable, he was AA 12 months prior and younger than Nic Nat but got a 1 year deal. It saved you an extra 12 month payout. Salary cap can be banked so anything you save now will allow you to roll into the next period of contending.

He was not a top 10 player in 2021. He made the bench of the AA team and was one of the more polarising decisions. He then declined massively in 2022 and played 8 games. That should devalue his contract due to recent output, not lock in a longer deal.

Fyfe has won 2 Brownlows and is a year younger than NN. If his 2022 season is anything like his last 2 seasons I would expect 1 year deals only from now on.
