Lots of memorable names in that team. Even Neil Cordy before he joined Channel 10 News.
Micky Gayfer - 1 goal in his VFL career.
Bernard Toohey - great "workman" for the Sydney Swans in the 1980s.
John Ironmonger played for Fitzroy... tough as he looks.
Wayne Carey in his rookie year at North!
And yeah that has to be the last time Bill Brownless could see his toes.

Tim Powell is the only Richmond guy I can spot in that team... to be honest I don't remember him playing for us, it was in the era we were woeful and almost folded.

I remember Col Kinnear's footy card (1989) saying he was the first coach of a VFL team that had never played VFL footy. Was odd then to hear years later that Wayne Brittain was claimed as the 'first'...

Red Meat comic strip.
He also looks like my old school principal.
I use the same on every forum I am on.

Really off topic....but is there a thread on All Australian jumpers?
Has there ever been a design competition?
Do they actually give them a jumper, and is it worn in a game?
Or do you mean the jumper players wear in the Intl Rules Series?
Either way, I've never had an interest to do anything with them.

Hi Mero,

Thanks. I am not sure if they are given a jumper. I presume the players selected would receive something, I am not sure if its a jumper or a medal.

Anyway, I work for the Tasmanian Police and we have the Police Football Games in Hobart in October. We need some designs for a jumper for the All - Australian team selected at the end of the carnival.

The winning design would receive a free jumper sent to them.

Do you think I could post on here?

Thanks

I have heard that they do, but I can't back it up with any fact. Though what I heard may have been referring to those years when the AA team was also pretty much the International Rules team.

Stockers, go ahead and make your own thread mate, we don't bite :)

I have posted a thread in the competition section.

Free jumper to the winner....and handcuffs!

My idea for the jumper would be.

Mero would probly know the image im talking about.
It was a record from the 70's it is a map of australia with the state colors & logos on their state

We are certainly open to anything. One comment was they wanted to keep away from the International Rules style jumper as it had been done before.

Hey Mero, not so much jumpers, but a kit inquiry.

How come some players, mostly being Ryan Crowley are wearing sweat abnds during games?
Are they allowed to all of a sudden?

Just saw this posted

The stripes don't actually extend to the top of the back.

It makes more sense the way you did it though, the number patch is completely pointless without the stripes.

The yellow looks more of a gold colour.
That's just the light settings of the photo.
Richmond use the same colour for all their jumpers and merchandise.
It's Yellow to them, but Adelaide use the exact same colour and call it Gold.

So as a kid, you'd dream about playing for your AFL side. A big part of my dream was wondering what the whole 'welcome to the club' experience would be like.

When do players get their socks, shorts, and jumpers? Do they just pick a pair from the club store? Or do they send away for orders?

Well it starts at pre-season training.
They front up to the property steward who gives them training t-shirts, singlets, polo shirts, running shorts, runners etc in whatever size they nominate.
They have more than enough of all they need, and the players get a few of each. What they don't use go into the club shop.
When it comes to training, they get given shorts and socks, and they get a training jumper on the night.
Match days they get all their gear from the property steward. Even their boots are looked after by a boot studder.

Gday Mero,

Sorry to nitpick but I found something that might be off on your Tigers 03 heritage.

The stripes on the jumper below and the one posted on your site don't match up (wrong side of the collar). Also looks like it was a number patch and not black stretching right across the back.
