EFA1- Nick Riewoldt
That is all
He is God.And Fraser would run through him like this:
Oh wow.Peter Matera > Matthew Pavlich
Lance Franklin > Scott Pendlebury
Barry Hall @19
Oh wow.
Yes, as good as matera was, you take the 300 game power forward/fullback/midfielder if you get the choice. You disagree?
Campo was a much better player than Hudghton. The most striking thing about this list is how few really good players there have been at each draft pick. In almost thirty drafts (excluding 81 and 82) there's only a handful of A-graders at each pick:
1 11 (Riewoldt, Hodge, Goddard, White, Gardiner, Gaspar, Murphy, Cooney, Deledio, Gibbs, Johnstone)
2 10 (Roughead, Lappin, Primus, Ottens, Cotchin, Hasleby, Rocca, Thomas, Wells, Ball)
3 6 (Judd, Croad, Grant, Griffen, Didak, Martin)
4 5 (Pavlich, Matera, Leppitsch, Lucas, Kennedy)
5 6 (Franklin, Pendlebury, Boak, McVeigh, Smith, Power)
6 1 (Wingard)
7 7 (Selwood, Lewis, Johnson, Mackie, Cameron, Ryder, Hale)
8 5 (Bartel, Corey, Bolton, Heppell, Tarrant)
9 3 (Cornes, Pike, McVeigh)
10 3 (Dangerfield, Brown, McPharlin)
11 3 (Hayes, Glass, Johnson)
12 7 (Wanganeen, Burgoyne, Jones, Rioli, Scott, Frawley)
13 8 (Crawford, Dal Santo, Riewoldt, McKay, Murphy, Talia, Ebert, Stanton)
14 5 (Allan, Holland, Simpson, Birchall, B Smith)
15 3 (Hudghton, Camporeale, Rawlings)
16 5 (Gehrig, Thompson, Yze, Burton, Douglas)
17 3 (Taylor, Kelly, McAdam)
18 5 (Kerr, Colbert, Stevens, Shaw, Rance)
19 7 (Hall, Mundy, Green, Ward, Smith, Davis, Gram)
20 5 (Fyfe, Cornes, Fletcher, Minson, Cummings)
Basically, if you've got a top 20 pick you've got somewhere between a one in five and a one in ten chance of getting a really good player. (Unless you have pick 6 - no wonder the Doggies were so keen to offload it for Boyd.) It's a crap shoot unless you're in the top two or to a lesser extent the top 5.
Everyday of the week.Yes, as good as matera was, you take the 300 game power forward/fullback/midfielder if you get the choice.

Well, this obviously shows that it cannot be decied unless all involved players have finished their career.Kane Cornes AA: 2005, 2007; B&F: 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012
Nat Fyfe AA: 2014; B&F: 2013
At this stage Cornes wins
Potential ... sure, Fyfe is a beauty
And also based a bit on team needs. But would go key position in most cases.Peter Matera would challenge Pavlich at #4
Ben Cousins the best player to go at pick 0.
F/S was a bit of a joke back then
Who drafted John Platten in 1981, when he debuted for Hawthorn in 1986?
As far as I'm aware, Rat nominated Carlton, was given money and a new Commodore, then changed his mind and went to Hawthorn after much persuasion from Dermie, Dipper etc after a State of Origin series!
Yep, this. Pretty much from this we can say:The most striking thing about this list is how few really good players there have been at each draft pick. In almost thirty drafts (excluding 81 and 82) there's only a handful of A-graders at each pick:

Geez, the Dees may well end up short changed getting pick 3 for Frawley!!!!!Yep, this. Pretty much from this we can say:
a. If you have a pick between 6 and 20 and can trade it for someone who is good/looks to become good - trade it!
b. If you are losing someone good, a pick between 6 and 20 does not cut it.
c. No wonder clubs need high priority picks to really give them a shot in the arm!
Agreed. Fyfe's gf apperance put me off alsoKane Cornes AA: 2005, 2007; B&F: 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012

You mean the 2 kicks on goal put you off. Fyfe was one of our best in that Grand Final, don't let 2 kicks tell you differently.Agreed. Fyfe's gf apperance put me off also

No.Please Matera is much better.
Being a Pies supporter I hated seeing it but when that bloke Gehrig was on song, damn he was good.
