I could be wrong but I think so far after the Grand Final it has been

Out
LRT
O'Keefe
Malceski
Biggs
Membrey
(plus a few other delisted players

In
Heeney
Hiscox
Davis

We definitely lost a lot of experience there.

we also delisted Dick & Lockyer & upgraded Lloyd, Xav Richards & Robinson.

The reason Hawks let Renouf go was that he has really bad knees. It is an ongoing problem and is more arthritic apparently. I wouldn't go there. How do we draft Thompson? We only have 38 positions and we have already filled 37. It would mean not filling the number 37 in the draft and I don't think that is going to happen. If we had room in the cap for 39 then we could go for Thompson.

Isnt this a hypothetical pick one thread?

We only had 38 on the Senior list last year. The Senior list depends on how much is in the Salary Cap. If we have money we will draft/preseason draft two players and make 39 but if notwe will draft one young player to fill 38. We have already committed to three academy players R1, R2, R4, to make up to 37 on list. We have 37 in the Draft left & will use it to make 38.

We've lost LRT, Membrey, O'Keefe and significantly Malceski from the senior list, I think we have enough money to have 39 on the senior list if we signed Luke Thompson as a DFA. 5 on the Cat A rookie list. Makes sense to me...

I personally wouldn't be happy using 37 on saad. I'd rather use it on a kid, hopefully McDonald or Keitel is there when our pick comes around. But whichever kid we get there I'd back to become a player in our structures. Second round round picks since 08 include hannebery, Reid, Parker and hewett (who will be a player if BF is to be believed). I guess we can hope for Thompson in the rookie draft.

On the topic of small forwards, I'm not of the opinion we need one, but if we did what about Leroy jetta from essendon? There's been no love for him on this thread, but he's talented enough and perhaps a change of scenery would bring out the best in him (we've had a knack for doing that to supposedly washed up players in the past....)

Id take saad over jetta any day. Saad would be a very handy pickup. Extremely accurate kick and would add another dimension to the forward line.

Tippett and buddy take up the priority of opposition defence, and can see saad bobbing up for 2 goals a game. Not to mention he would apply some defensive pressure, very handy considering Tippett and goodes provide next to none.

Two KPP's cut from Geelong, Brown's Bio from the Cats page:

Made a promising debut for the Cats against Adelaide in 2011 when he booted a goal with his first kick. Injured his shoulder the following week agains Essendon and was out for the rest of the season. Has struggled to get opportunities in recent years, playing only three games in 2012 and five in 2013. Started out as a key forward in the making, but has spent a lot of the past two seasons playing across half-back in the VFL.

Might be worth having a look at.

Can't find anything on Hamling.

I liked Hamling as a junior. Watched a fair bit of him for Claremont and he has good speed for his size. Very skinny though.

How many spots on the list do we have left? Also can you take a de listed free agent as a rookie? Or do you have to wait to rookie draft? I assume aj will be on the long term injury list straight away so we can promote a rookie straight up.

I wouldn't touch Jetta simply due to where he's coming from (poor culture etc) and he's at that age where it's that bit more difficult to teach them new tricks while opposition have seen enough of him to work him out for the most part too.

I understand the dislike of McKernan, he seems to have missed an opportunity handed to him on a silver platter. However I wouldn't be overly upset to get him 2bh. Good size and I think we could turn him around. He's had some injury history but seems to have just been thrown around a bit much IMO. Seems to train hard and put the effort in IMO, just doesn't seem to come out looking any good on game day (which could be a concern....).

I think it's clear that you go one way or the other with Saad or Thompson.

1. With Saad you strengthen our attack and then use the cattle we already have to support the defence (XR, Aliir, Reid, Rohan, Macca etc).

2. Or, you look at it like we already have a strong Fwd line, why not bolster our defensive stocks and depth with Thompson?

Interesting RE: Brown & Hunt also. If Brown's played in the backline in the VFL perhaps he's worth a look? Possibly able to use him at either end of the ground? Is young enough and comes from a great club with a good development team, just got pushed out height wise.

EDIT: Actually, thinking about McKernan, considering we have Drex waiting in the wings as well as Nanna & Nanka, would it be so bad an idea to drop Drex into defence? He's got aggression and with some polishing could take up a spot if needed... Maybe... Just tell me if I'm going crazy here...

Cray cray.

I'd be interested in Petrenko if it weren't for his bung shoulders. Robinson is also interesting, but I don't think he'll last to any of our picks.

What about converting Lewis Johnston into a defender and kick-in specialist? Pretend he was never a forward in a past Swans life. And we're going to have to replace Mal's kick-ins. Johnston, for all his faults, is an elite kick.

My opinion? we wont pick up a DFA.

I agree with this.
2015 will be the year of reinvention.
New roles for existing players due to our predicament of not being allowed to trade. A tinkering with the game plan.

Key players that will have to step up rapidly as week in , week out senior footballers, much like Cunningham, Lloyd & Rampe.
Jones, Mitchell, Laidler, DRex, Rohan & Reid as a key defender.

If they do that, we make top 4 & again threaten for the flag. Fail & we just battle it out for spots in the 8.

I trust them. I have faith!

no, and no.

I agree with your sentiments.

I said the same thing on here the other day on here and didn't get much bite.

Maybe Derickx could be trained as a defender and play when we need to look after a resting ruckman, freeing Tippett from rucking anywhere except the forward line. Pyke can then take the midfield and Derickx could ruck in defense.

IF we could get that to work I think it may be advantageous for us to so.

Not sure if Derickx is capable or not, but as you've said you can't question his intent. Whether that is enough I am not sure.

I think we should take an established defender with one of the rookie picks be it from one of the other clubs who have delisted them or via email the other state leagues.

What most people fail to see is that we have also lost LRT and to a lesser extent walsh who both were KPP depth. We have 2 players in the best 22 another 2 who have zero experience and 1 player who can go back but is played as a "swingman". It is an issue that must be adressed. We need at least one player to come in with some experience to play when called upon at the very least and next year it would look very likely that this may happen.

What about Kyle Hardingham from Essendon? Kind of would play a similat role to Laidler though... Can maybe play up forward however. Do we need a medium sized forward? Probably not.
