Yeah, I guess...

Still dirty we got 19....

Adelaide is going to jump up and down and have a hissy fit if they get just one round one (which they simply must after Franklin)

Huge difference, franklin is a greedy money hungry c*** where as PD clearly wants to go home and is not interested in other clubs his motives are totally different. He says he loves the AFC which is documented and the only reason he will be leaving is to get home. Money isn't the selling point Geelong will be paying unders on what he could get by starting a bidding war like that greedy so and so Franklin did.

Why do you think Costa has come up with his plea

But both will leave via free agency. If Franklin isn't worth changing the rules for, neither is Patty.

If some sort of trade is sorted that's best for all clubs involved....

Clearly it's best if PD stays.

TBH we wont need to match, purely based on the fact if PD is desperate to get home he will take care of the negotiations himself through his manager, if its not for money and as he has indicated and his manager has indicated its the go home factor, he will not want any chance of entering the PSD and ending up where he doesnt want to go. It wouldnt be the nicest thing to do for Adelaide to match but it is a business and they would be fully aware of PD's reasoning and will exploit that to ensure adequate compensation, and they must get the maximum compensation they can to settle for less is just plain dumb.

Adelaide won't want any chance of making him go to the PSD and losing out on a first rounder. You need to wake up and realise your situation

They wont need to PD doesnt want to leave for any other reason than to get home. Adelaide will without question know PD's reasoning and PD will not risk going to Brisbane for example, if he has decided on Geelong. Actually not concerned at all about matching as PD will not be declaring anything until he knows a deal is done and if Geelong dont want to deal as he loves the club(he stated this) he will stay. Also Geelong will be paying him under what he can get elsewhere so its in their interest to make it happen and the fact he is a gun.

You don't think PD would be just a little annoyed at Adelaide for not letting him go FA? In which case the PSD might be back on the table, even if his main driver is to return home.

And have the possibility of spending to years in Brisbane, no way, if it was $$ driven yes, but with the fact Geelong have clearly stated they will not be paying big bucks he is doing it for one reason. PD knows AFC needs to be compensated fairly, even Ryder publicly stated the EFC should be fairly compensated for him. And yes Ryder was not an RFA but if Adelaide match PD has the same bargaining power as when Ryder wanted wanted to leave. And as for the PSD that means Danger nominates a salary that Geelong are willing to pay and if their coach has any idea that isnt going to deter any club that has a pick before them or even deter Adelaide from matching.

All this talk of Dangerfield going to the PSD is nonsense. No way he gets to Geelong's pick, particularly if Geelong adhere to their holier-than-thou salary cap system and Danger is available in the PSD with a fairly affordable price on his head. If Geelong want him badly enough they will have to pay fair market price which is two first rounders or a first rounder and a very good player.

A "FREE" agent which costs 2 first rounders?

I suspect you will find we don't, so you get to pay a guy who doesn't want to be there a million bucks a year instead.

The restricted free agency rules need changing. The losing club should not be able to block a FA leaving.

Here's a scenario. RFA player wants x amount of money, club won't pay it, RFA fields other offers and agrees to an offer. Initial club can then MATCH the offer however the RFA ultimately decides whether to stay at initial club now that he's getting the money he wants or he can elect to leave as a FA. That's how it should be.

Yea so basically get rid of the restricted BS

If Dangerfield does go to the pre-season draft does he get the option of putting a price on his head and saying what length contract he wants? Can he say "I demand a $1.5M 1 year deal"? Geelong just gets Hawkins, Taylor and Selwood to shift a chunk of their pay back a year (with a little bonus perhaps) and then have the space to pay Dangerfield that much on the understanding he'll sign a 4-year extension on less money which makes it average out to the ~$800k a year that is what they want to offer. No club would sign PD for one year on that crazy money even if they had the cap space under the knowledge that he doesn't want to be there and probably won't stay after the 1 year. Is that draft tampering?

I guess it all depends if Adelaide match or not and how vindictive Geelong and PD get if they do.

*And before someone jumps down my throat of course this is all assuming PD wants to go to Geelond and only Geelong which is far from certain.

He'd pissed pissed at Geelong for not brokering a fair trade deal with Adelaide before any thoughts of PSD were to arise. If he wants to go to Geelong, AFC will be willing to trade.

Haven't read the whole thread (so not sure if this has already been mentioned).

Say Geelong were feeling generous, could they not offer to do a "Goodwill trade" of Motlop for a pick in the 50s, with the understanding that Adelaide wouldn't match on PD?

Adelaide still get their first round compo and Motlop. Geelong only lose Motlop (who may be leaving anyway).

Would this be looked at unfavorably by the AFL??

Minimum 2 year deal; and yes he places a price on his head.

And Scott was pretty damn clear about not paying oustide of their structure 2 days ago, keep thinking they will try and conjure some half arsed way to do it, talk about crows fans clutching at straws saying why he's staying you are clutching on ways to get him for nudda.

Not 100% sure but I believe Ken Wood would have to approve it someone posted that on the AFC board so that its a fair trade

Do you know how the system works or are we discussing playstation AFL Live 2007 trading here?
The concept is that one club recruits a player for free, and the club of origen gets a compensation pick. If the recruiting club has to play close to full value then it's not really a "free agent" is it.

Well then why did the AFL introduce different classes of free agents?

If Geelong actually want to recruit him without giving up a draft pick, it is incumbent on them, under restricted free agency, to make an offer the AFC do not feel is worth matching. That is how the system works, and if you don't like it you can grab 50c, walk to your nearest telephone booth and call someone who cares.

The system is not in place for clubs to make decisions based on good will. There are rules in place, and if clubs want to abide by those rules then who can blame them?

In two years when Danger is an unrestricted free agent, the game changes.
