Gawd this sounds a bit desperate from the club website:

Three tall forwards in Matt Taberner, Nat Fyfe and Josh Treacy have been named on the field, while Jye Amiss will also get game time starting on the bench. The 189cm Sam Sturt has also been named on the field while the 190cm Bailey Banfield is on the interchange.

Like errr we have tall forwards everyone - don’t be too concerned for the year. Don’t listen to the external criticism please!

I just read that as Treacy is ahead of Amiss and Sturt is ahead of Banfield.
With an 8 man bench it makes sense to have additional forwards in the mix.

Travis Colyer is named as an emergency. Despite being only 175cm himself, Travis' great grandfather was an impressive 192cm.

Can the GGF kick straight? Might need to start an army of the undead.
That reminds me, people always bang on about the eagles, but why didn't Elrond tell Aragon about that green undead army that owed his family a solid before they even bothered to form a fellowship. Those dudes ****ing wrecked Sauron's siege army in seconds. Have them march on Mordor, slaughter the lot and then Frodo can waltz up and drop the ring in the lava unopposed.

They are thieves, cowards those oath breakers. When the time came to honour their word they fled. There's no trusting them.

Fremantle Dockers will field a strong line-up in 2023, but last week’s match simulation against Adelaide exposed depth issues

The Dockers’ depth chart is defined by gold stars and a few red flags ahead of the 2023 AFL season, writes ELIZA REILLY.

What is the difference between Fremantle’s best line-up and the rest?
Sixty one points to be exact.

Last Friday against the Crows, the Dockers fielded players in round one contention for the first four quarters of match simulation. Fremantle made a fast start but Izak Rankine turned the game with three goals as Adelaide ran out 12.5 (77) to 10.6 (66) winners.
Then it was over to generation next and Freo’s out-of-favours for the remaining three quarters. By the end of the full seven segments, the margin had blown out to 72 points.

“We’ve got a bit of work to do with some of our developing players in terms of getting them up to AFL standard but we knew that when we put them on the list,” Longmuir said. “We’ll be patient with them and keep pushing along in the background to try and fast-track their development. We probably had five or six guys out who are either in our best 22-25.
“Adelaide … probably had a bit more depth through AFL-listed players playing.”
So, how does Fremantle’s depth stack up?
And where are the areas the Dockers can least afford injuries?

DEFENDERS

Key defenders: Hugh Davies, Joel Hamling, Alex Pearce, Brennan Cox, Josh Draper.
General defenders: Jordan Clark, Luke Ryan, Nathan Wilson, Hayden Young, Heath Chapman, Brandon Walker, Corey Wagner, Karl Worner.
Summary: Fremantle has developed some nice depth in defence with a good mix of lockdown and rebounding options. Luke Ryan is ranked inside the top 10 general defenders in the league by Champion Data while Brennan Cox made the All-Australian squad last year.

The Dockers are slightly vulnerable if an injury-prone Alex Pearce were to go down, given Joel Hamling has barely been sighted at AFL level in the past two years and Hugh Davies is a long-term prospect, but Ryan can also play tall.

MIDFIELDERS

Midfielders: Jaeger O’Meara, Caleb Serong, Andrew Brayshaw, Will Brodie, Ethan Hughes, Liam Henry, Neil Erasmus, Nathan O’Driscoll, Matthew Johnson, Conrad Williams.
Ruckmen: Sean Darcy, Luke Jackson, Max Knobel, Liam Reidy.
Summary: Fremantle’s wings have been an area of intrigue across pre-season given James Aish has spent some time on ball. When push comes to shove, Aish is likely to start on one wing given he is ranked in the top 10 of all the league’s outside mids but Liam Henry, Ethan Hughes and Nathan O’Driscoll have all been trialling for the other.

O’Driscoll’s chances may be harmed by a pre-season foot setback. Neil Erasmus and Matthew Johnson are unlikely to earn a spot in round one despite impressive pre-seasons, but the pair are perfect replacements for any of Freo’s inside midfielders. Jaeger O’Meara will play the role vacated by David Mundy while Conrad Williams is a long-term prospect. Mature age draftee Liam Reidy is first in line to replace Sean Darcy or Luke Jackson if required.

FORWARDS

General forwards: Sam Sturt, Lachie Schultz, Nat Fyfe, Michael Walters, James Aish, Tom Emmett, Michael Frederick, Travis Colyer, Sam Switkowski, Bailey Banfield, Josh Corbett.
Key forwards: Matt Taberner, Jye Amiss, Josh Treacy, Sebit Kuek, Eric Benning.
Summary: Fremantle is still crying out for a hulking key forward. You know what you’re going to get from Matt Taberner.

Jye Amiss and Josh Treacy have potential although neither are ready to be the main man just yet. Nat Fyfe has shown promise this pre-season but is still finding his feet in a foreign role up forward.
The Dockers’ small forwards are firing and Sam Switkowski is one of the competition’s elite. The other hole Fremantle would love to fill is a versatile, natural-born goal kicker. Sam Sturt could be that guy after an injury-interrupted start to his career.

CONCLUSION

Fremantle is close to, if not already in possession of, a list that will take them deep into finals. The big hole is still a traditional key forward and the Dockers might be at risk of testing their depth around the ground if crucial players suffer injuries.

This is nothing we don't already know

Pearce we really don't want injured now Logue is gone. Bar that we have great coverage.

Media like to be really negative towards Freo. Most of our younger players look highly skilled

Bit of a nothing article. We had so many out injured and/or managed. We also had about 9 Peel top ups vs 2. Our back end is very raw which is what JLo was talking about. I thought Kuek showed some promising signs.

But long term projects like Knobel, Benning, Williams are a long way off league level. Draper and Davies look promising but also a long way off physically. We also have one list spot up for grabs.

Also in her analysis she mentioned Aish specifically in the midfield group but then didn’t name him anywhere in any of the positional groups.

I'm pretty upbeat too, but I think her point is that Adelaide's younger players (not the established best 22) are further along than ours.

I think that's an easy assumption to make from her on that one game but it's really hard to quantify the effect having 7 more guys that arent really even WAFL level can have on the result. Assuming JL is correct in saying Adelaide had basically only 1 player missing, the 5-6 we had missing makes a HUGE difference on the appearance of depth levels. I'd be pretty comfortable saying that if you replaced the Peel top up guys with Hughes, Wilson, Sturt, Noddy, Banfield and Hamling then it'd have been a lot more even

Why are we taking this preseason game seriously now?

In the books they were just ghosts who were really spooky, Aragorn used them with the help of other Rangers from the north to free the Gondor army that was captured. After that the ghosts were free and Aragorn saved the day with just humans +1 elf and +1 dwarf.

Although TBF, the pressure's on to get people reading, so she has to draw meaning otherwise why would anyone but the seriously passionate care?
Yeah, nothing against her for the article, it’s her job and even if I disagree, it’s still better than a lot of the “articles” that have zero effort in them.

There's another key here in that taking out some key cogs from the backline (along with Cox trying to get back into the rhythm after missing so much of the game sims) can really mess around with the chemistry down there. Seemed pretty dysfunctional if compared to the water-tightness of the past few years.
