Re: Dees may lose blockbuster

...
if you got years of sunday games you would be doing fantastic then? BULLSHIT, you know it is

Yeah we would, we pull crowds regardless of the day. You don't pull crowds cos most of your supporters are pea hearts. We pulled 52,000 into the G against West Coast last week.

Re: Dees may lose blockbuster

The game got 70,000 last season.
Will prob get that many again.

Don't understand why AD is planting this crap on Melbourne 150th celerbrations weekend.

So over the AFL.

You arent regardless of the day dont give me that, Sunday so many kids play that will hurt anyones tallies, if you like it or not, and you pulled 52k just pies supporters, somewhat doubt that im sure there was a couple of wce supporters...

Yeah and you pull 20,000 if you are lucky against an interstate side.

Re: Dees may lose blockbuster

Essendon vs Collingwood.

With the uneven draw we could now play Anzac Day and Queens Bday.

Why don't they just play Collingwood v Essendon every public holiday and every Friday night ???.

That should ensure that they maximise crowd and viewer participation as well as killing off nearly every other Melbourne club.

Re: Dees may lose blockbuster

The game has pulled 60K plus since 2004 (And the 2004 game was very wet) so I'm not worried about that.

What I am worried about is how Vlad (Can we make a petition to oust him?) is so eager for this to happen.

Taking games like this away from us will only make the big clubs bigger and the small clubs smaller.

Re: Dees may lose blockbuster

This game will draw 70,000 supporters.

Melbourne will get over 20,000 of their own. Maybe 25k.
The rest will all be Collingwood.

He means you pulled a big crowd because you're in good form (but you still do get decent crowds even when you're not going that well).

Looks like Andy just wants to boost the attendance for Monday, and by saying Coll may lose it it might just boost to Coll contingent even more (although no doubt there will be 40-50k of them anyway).

Re: Dees may lose blockbuster

I hope the Demons and (MCC members) turn out in force (70k) and come in the final quarter to upset the Pies. Bay13 will be awesome.

Re: Dees may lose blockbuster

Collingwood pulled 52g last week against the Eagles. That is with only 1 victorian side.

You'd think on a public holiday, another 10 thousand collingwood supporters would turn up.

Melbourne would only need to provide 10 thousand supporters to get 65g-70g.

Melbourne supporters love this game. No matter where they are on the ladder they look forward to it. I've trolled around a few demons websites and i've seen many comments about how this is their final this year...they wont make finals, so this is their best chance to have a win on the big stage.

They will turn up...I'm tipping a really healthy crowd of atleast 70 thousand.

That said....if the AFL want to take a blockbuster away from us...i'd prefer it to be this one...it just seems the rivalry has waned of late. Perhaps its because there is always one side who is at the bottom of the ladder. The last 2 years the demons have been down, before that we were down.

Sorry to say it but Essendon and Collingwood fans will turn up regardless of ladder positon on ANZAC day, whereas Melbourne supporters tend to drop off.

Also a prime example of how good Essendon and Collingwood are and why they should keep ANZAC day. This is a public holiday...everyone is home...2 big Victorian teams playing off...yet we are worried about attracting 60g.

But Demetriou will be a bit dissapointed this weekend because 70g will turn up. I can see why the D's would be so keen to keep this game! Its alright when 50 thousand collingwood fans boost your attendance figure

Thanks :thumbsu:

I don't think there is any point in comparing the QB to Anzac Day given the amount of promotion, hype and anticipation that leads up to Anzac Day for it's historical significance. The QB is just a day off, which obviously doesn't get the attention Anzac Day does, and with good reason I may add

good work Andy D, kick a club while it's down...
Kicking them while they are down would be to wait for the crowd figures and announce that the game will be taken off you. Kick starting a team into gear would be giving you warning to get out there and support your side if you want to keep this fixture. Dees supporters have 2 days to consider the ramifications and get to the game. I hope none are hoping others will go and they are not needed.

Exactly right. 100% agree. With a Carlton fan:eek:

Monday is now a massive day for the future of the Melbourne Footy Club. That may sound dramatic but the supporters need to show some passion and commitment and show up to the game. Will be good revenue for your club and will ensure that Melbourne and Collingwood get to keep the game in the future

its all because of our fickle supporter base.

IIRC in 2006 when we were doing well the match pulled around 95k... 2 years later it could be a shadow of that and i know the same amount of pies supporters will turn up. pretty pathetic

The rich get richer and the poor get the picture!

Appalling of AD to threaten Dees with this crap. Talk about kick em when they are down.

I say this as a supporter who wants more so called 'blockbusters'for his own team, but the only purpose served here is to make the Dees smaller than they already are.
