Who will be your team's next star/elite player?

Ben Reid is almost there, not far off it.

Beams and Sidebottom in the next 2 years.

Witts will be a gun but I don't expect him to really start earning serious plaudits until 2015 when his body is mature and ready.

Shiels - very highly regarded at Hawthorn for good reason. One of Pelchen's better sneaky late picks back in 2008. Would almost have certainly gone inside the top 10 in 2009. Had a "break-out" year this season and will be groomed for even bigger responsibility in 2012.

If Rioli can master the art of playing some consistent four quarter footy, he'll make that final step from brilliant at times to elite level football. Hopefully his body will let him bridge that gap.

Hamish Hartlett and John Butcher. Both have the potential to be the best in the competition at their positions.

I don't think you people know what the word 'star' means. The players I've bolded could reach the absolute peak of their potential and still not be stars.

Harsh on a few there I would have thought, Vickery for example has shown plenty, is 21 and a 200cm ruckman? Lots of star potential.

Hawkins, Smedts, Menzel, Duncan, Christensen, Brown, T. Hunt, Vardy, Bathie and prob. a dozen more I can't bother recalling. Putting our team into reliable hands imo.

I can do that to
Hurley, Heppell, Melksham, Carlisle, Hibberd, Zaharakis, Pears, Bellchambers, Colyer

Maybe not as a midfielder in the most general sense of the term, but as a tagger/run-with player I think Scooter Selwood's a chance.

From another team: always thought Kieran Jack would end up being an excellent player for the Swans.

Haha! Okay, maybe I was exaggerating a bit. Take out T. Hunt and Guthrie (still think they'll be good). But we do have two premiership players (Christensen, Duncan), three possible Wayne Carey Jnrs (Hawkins, Menzel, Brown) and 3 very versatile players in Bathie and Vardy and Smedts.

I've only heard good stuff about Smedts, and I've seen him play. He was everywhere, helping out all over the ground. Has been labeled by many the "best schoolboy footballer they'd ever seen", and I think he'll be great if he can bring that into the ones.

Vickery wasn't one of the ones I bolded. He's a bit iffy, but I didn't bother with bolding every iffy one, just the ones that will never happen.

Puopolo? I like him a lot, but he's only just been drafted at 24 and there's nothing overly special about him. Will be a solid contributor for 5-10 years, but won't be a star.

Hanley? The only one there that's even a small chance, but hasn't shown anything to suggest he'll be more than a good half back flanker.

Rance? Awful, awful, awful disposal. No matter how good everything else about his game gets, you can't be a star with disposal as bad as his when you play a position where every mistake gets punished.

Batchelor: Basically the same deal as Puopolo, except Batchelor's not as good (although age comes into play there). Will be a solid contributor for a decade, but not a star.

Tuohy: Not even worth bothering to discuss that one :o

Hartlett, Butcher, Trengove, Lobbe, Brad Ebert, Pittard, Jacobs, Banner, O'Shea, Moore, Redden, Newton, Jonas and Irons will all be stars too. I look forward to Port fighting Geelong for the next 10 premierships.

not sure if you watched all tiger games this year but his disposal has improved greatly from previous years.

Alan Christensen at Geelong. The kid punches above his weight, and has made a huge impact in his first season. Will win a Brownlow - bookmark it,

I am going for someone not many rate as a player who could be elite, Crameri, Hewill be a player which nobody saw as any good and then just get there through hard work. ala Chapman.

Hurley is a certainty.

Kreuzer, Gibbs and Yarran.

Who?

Yup, the next 3 cabs off the rank to follow Murphy to elite status. Pretty confident all will make it too.
