The case against Lyon is that he hasnt threatened on the more spin friendly MCG and SCG pitches. With Rhino coming back from injury, the four quick policy looks set for Perth, with Lyon to come back in Adelaide depending on the form of Starc you'd think

Bookmark Lyon for Adelaide then.

:(

But we're 2-0 up, we only need a draw for the series, I'm happy for CA nurse him for a couple of years yet, if it means he ends up the best he can be over his career

Actually we need to win the series outright to get the Border Gavaskar trophy back.

It's a toe!? Just chop it off, you've got another 9 of the little buggers. Piggy won't get to go to the market but sacrifices must be made.

I keep saying Paine should do this with his finger, do a Ronnie Lott and have thing removed and get back out there.

It's a sad state of affairs when you pretty much expect the news that a fast bowler has pulled up with some sort of injury.

Still, he's only 21 and it's good that they've acted quickly to nullify any future problems. He'll need to be managed carefully over the next few years until his body is up to the rigours of a full season of international cricket.

Just disappointed I won't get to see patto_man terrorising the Indians at the WACA, but it sounds like he was going to be rested anyway.

Sad about Pattinson, I like the kid he seems to have a bit of shit in him. Lenny Pascoe and Jeff Thomson were the last real quicks who wanted to hurt people and then get wickets as an almost secondary event.

Lillee wasn't as quick after his injury, Tait is a soft ****, Lee was a pussy, McGrath had the shit but not the pace.

Maybe I've sold Rodney Hogg a bit short and forgotten others but yeah excited by this bloke and can't wait for him to get back.

Damn shit news, at least it doesn't sound too bad.

Would still love 4 quicks next game though but really really really don't want one to be Starc. Damn you poorly timed t20 tournament!

I'm glad they're being proactive about this- and resting him so it doesn't get worse.
Regardless, I too blame Haddin.

Its a shame theyre not playing, but its great to have 2 young tearaways looking over the shoulder of whoever comes into the side. :thumbsu:

Hes had a good taste now, can rest a little and take stock of what hes already done and what he needs to do.

**** me this is so frustrating....

can i be cynical for a moment.... does anyone else reckon there is a degree of "over diagnosis" going on....

i don't know... it just.... arrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! *pulls hair out*.... this didn't used to happen before, and the workload isn't THAT much higher than it was 10 years ago....

EDIT: you can't just think of this injury in isolation.... but when it is happening over and over and over and over again to numerous bowlers, then something is seriously amiss...

Paul Marsh who has been employed by CA to oversee the high performance program and fitness of the national team has declared that there will be a lot of this. Any risk to a player, any light injury will see them withdrawn from the selection framework for their benefit and apparently the national team.

Sad to see but it would be a hell of a lot worse if the other quicks were just making up the numbers around him. At present, the Hilf and Sids are in career best form and with the inclusion of Harris, we should still be well placed to take 20 wickets in Perth.

I hope they give Starc a game. I'd back him to do well as the 4th seamer with Hilfy, Siddle and Harris carrying the attack. I'd back him to get under the guard somewhat.

Lyon does nothing for me.
