Totally agree. I really like Gysberts, but they wont let him go if not for a nice high pick. They know he's got value. Would absolutly love Caddy, but as each day passes that becomes less of a reality.

Yeah spot on caddy would be a huge inclusion but just don't feel we can get it over the line and if we don't I would want Essendon to hold onto out second round pick and take a tall defender to sure things up down there I reckon we could pick up a gem defender in this draft if it's a strong as they say most clubs will use there first picks on midfielders and forwards leaving a heap of talent for us to choose from

I wouldn't look any further than Trent Shinners from Bendigo. 194cm 97kgs and a consistently good VFL player who does the simple things well. Turning 24 in December and is also a great leader who has played with a lot of the other defenders already.

Heard quite a bit about shinners and would be a good pick up by any club but do we have to use a pick in the national draft when we could easily take him the preseason or rookie drafts

I would think a rookie pick would be all that is needed for shinners, but I'd preserve our second pick, around 30, to pick up a decent midfielder that has slid.

He's really only 24? I just assumed he was 27-28 because of how he came in captained immediately

yeh, says a lot about the quality of person and leader he must be doesn't it. That aspect alone is something we miss in our backline.

we probably thought the same about dickson. and we probably thought we could let campbell sit there until the 2nd round of the rookie draft. if the club wants shinners, and expects him to play a role, either straight into the team or first depth option, get him in the national draft. no point risking it.

I'm on the bandwagon

If I told you there was a statistic that ranked Priddis a better user than Griffen, or Liam Anthony a better user than Daniel Rich, would you put a lot of faith in that statistic?

Why'd you only quote that part? I was agreeing with you in the rest of my post saying that stat is very misleading.

You think they'll go all Bendigo-crazy again?

I was joking, but I am sure they would be interested in a key defender as will a few other clubs, ie: Saints.
I am not sure if Shinners was at bendigo last year I think he was, so Grant and co would know about him.

Guys seeing as Jobe Watson was kind enough to let us know of players being interviewed by North, I'll return the favour.

A few weeks ago, you guys interviewed Harley Walshe from the Jets. Ruckman/key back. Some basketball background, good athleticism. Kept Daniher to not much when the Jets played the Cannons.

:thumbsu:

Jetta and Hille for Wellingham - Pies should be happy with that. Hille can give Jolly a chop out while the window is still open and Jetta will fill a gap with Didak just about finished and with Krak being 29 and a week by week prospect coming off his knee.

Not sold on Toy, my cousin played with him at PEGS where he debuted in year 8. Seems like he may have been a man child who just dominated junior ranks purely on size and talent, but did not develop a disciplined work rate to cut it at AFL level. Impeccable source tells me that Merv thinks he is simply too lazy for AFL footy.

If we were to gain Caddy and Pearce from trade week, excitement for 2013 would be immense. Based on Hird's comments it doesn't seem we'll be a big player though. Pearce could add that outside versatility we require and I could really see him flourishing on a wing for us, especially with the service he will receive from jobe and howlett.

Would not want us to touch Moloney. He will be 29 at the start of next year and is coming off a terrible year. Reminds me too much of a camporeale type selection, and we don't really need a player of his type IMO. He would just be clogging up a spot in the midfield that really should be reserved for Zaharakis.[/quote]

would probably agree with you if we were trading for him, and even though FA is not a complete free hit I think we still dont have to much to loose. Would he more likely be taking up the place of someone like Hocking or Lonergan (not that he really has a place) or maybe even Myers. Rather then Zaka who is more of a outside mid. I think it at the very least free's up Jobe or gives us another quality inside mid option if Jobe is tagged or injured

Lets get Clinton Young should help our durability issues

2011 - no one wants Pearce except me
2012- Everyone wants Pearce

Moloney is anything but a free hit especially considering Port and Syndey will be in the bidding process. How much do people expect we will have to pay a 29 year old with banged up shoulders coming off a nothing season where he couldnt get a game for Melbourne that finished last?

Also just to add to discussion havnt seen him mentioned. Ash Smith from eagles firmed into best 22 last year but with an early injury hasnt been able to break into the side and has dented his confidence. Has a booming kick, can run and rebound but also showed last year his ability to stop small forwards. Would get him for a very little i would think.

Really liking the concept of Trent Shinners. I haven't seen a lot of Bendigo this year but from what I have seen has been quite solid. Potential rookie list pick up at worst especially if we are going to trade out one of Pears/Hooker.

And so the madness begins.

Once the name Pearce gets mentioned it's almost time to pack the bags up and sit out till pre season starts again.

Salopek? Why no love this year? Surely you desperados think he can slot straight into our side. He was a high draft pick right?

Bit of talk on the Carlton board about trading Jeff Garlett. Bit down on form from last year where he kicked 48 goals and laid 96 tackles but still kicked 29 this year. Thoughts?
