This morning I was crossing the road at the pedestrian crossing, as I do a few times a day. The zebra crossing is not governed by lights, but by the notion that motor cars are compelled to wait for pedestrians to cross before proceeding to drive through.

Now, if I'm not already in the crossing, but can see a motor car about to go through ahead of me, when they look to gauge my position, I wave them through, knowing that both I, and the motor vehicle, will be able to proceed without stopping and all is good in the world.

This morning, I encountered the usual situation, noticing a car approaching the crossing that I was also approaching. The car was probably even ahead of what I would describe as the usual position for the earlier example, and could easily have proceeded before I arrived, but did not, due to the nature of the crossing.

Upon noticing the Carlton FC licence plate on the motor car, not only did I continue to walk, making the motor car wait further, I did not even give the generic wave to thank the driver. It was instinctive, and not considered and employed.

I am curious to know whether I am a good bloke with a strong passion for footy, or just a bit of a &*^&* sometimes.

Are there any other examples of footy hatred spilling into your daily adventures?

Anyway, in your situation I probably wouldn't have walked, because I don't particularly fancy the possibility that said car suddenly decides to plow through the crossing!

The car was stopped, no safety issues. Bottom line, I'm entitled to walk, but I usually let cars go so that they don't have to wait. Today, I let him wait, as he is legally required to do.

Hey, I don't want to hold up everyone by destroying the man's car, just this Carlton car can wait, instead of getting the special treatment to pass through the pedestrian crossing, which is probably illegal anyway, if I'm still in the crossing already.

If you were at the supermarket, with a full trolley, and there's a someone with just an apple to buy, you'd normally let them go ahead of you and not be a 'moo'. However, if it was a Carlton supporter you saw behind you....

It is certainly discrimination, but, hey, nobody's perfect...especially not Carlton people.

Reminds me, I was banked up in traffic once and the left lane was blocked because of parked cars. Everyone did the right thing, waited their turn to start moving and stayed in the right lane...except one tosspot who tried to sneak up the left and then prop and cut in, in front of me, when the traffic started moving. He also had a big fat "HAWTHORN 2008 PREMIERS" sticker on his bumper.

Did I let him in when the traffic started moving? Hell no, made him wait, as did others behind me. Not necessarily because he was a Hawthorn fan, I just hate people that do that. But the Hawthorn thing made it a little funnier.

If that makes me a wank3r, then so be it!

Yeah, autocorrrect for just about every word stronger than "sausage".

Each to their own. I just don't have time for rude pricks that don't acknowledge courteous acts, like in your case.

And I hate Carlton as much as the next guy, and I generally want to hurt most of their Moos of supporters at games (Neanderthals), but I don't think less of anyone in the real world because of a bumper sticker.

If people can read, or understand road laws, they would appreciate the fact that the guy had to wait, because it was a pedestrian crossing. He has no choice.

I have no obligation to let him go through - reverse applies, in fact - and am not required to give him a hug because he obeyed the road laws.

The guy in the car did nothing beyond what is required, nor did I. I fail to see how that makes either him, or I, a flog.

Furthermore, the OP is directed at seeing if anyone else lets - subconsciously or otherwise - their AFL affiliation affect their handling of situations. If your post is not a specific response addressing that issue, then why waste everyone's time with your 'I'm a model citizen' disapproval?

1) I can't think of a situation where I've treated anyone differently because of their affiliation with any club.

2) I don't see any reason to thank someone for stopping at a pedestrian crossing in which they have no choice to do otherwise and for all I know would just as happily run me over but for legal ramifications. On the other hand, if someone lets you through, in whatever the circumstance when they don't need to, I would always thank them.
