I think a low first rounder or high second rounder would be needed for Polec, but good luck in trade week, and I also see potential for a trade re Walker, Stringer or both being a win win for both clubs.
some people on the Port board said a 2nd rounder + Daniel Stewart as a depth fwd (Brisbane are desperate for fwd) but he was delisted.

What the hell has happened to him?? Gun junior. Do you think Henderson + a pick would pry Polec out of Brisbane? I'd think the Lions would be looking for a bit more. I actually think Polec is a better chance to get to Port than Adelaide.
Butcher has had hip problems + interrupted preseasons. We are hoping he can get a full preseason next year and show his true potential in 2014.
I think what it might come down to is who pays Polec the most. He was on 90k at Brisbane and that could easlily double at an SA club.
Also of coarse the crows not having a 1st and 2nd round pick will help Port in the trade for Polec

Where do I sign?
Stringer AND Walker lmao

RossFC - sorry mate I asked a couple of questions about 2 different players and it read poorly. Being an WWT fan I have a pretty good handle on Polec...it is also the reason I want your grubby mitts off Dunstan. ;)

What has happened with Butcher? He was a very good junior and, iirc, played a couple of belters at the start of his career but now looks a shadow of his former self.

Gotcha. I had read about some injury concerns, guessed it was impacting.

Also, to complete the circle, Kersten has, I believe, recently signed an extension so is under contract.

I didn't know that! When was that must have been to much else going on in September I missed that one. Good news.

Walker can just...walk.
He is a 3rd year rookie

I'd only throw in a 3rd round pick if you also offered a developing ruckmen that is 18-22 years old

edit: so pretty much Walker/Stringer for 2nd round pick
or Walker/Stringer/Developing Ruck for a 2nd & 3rd round pick

I honestly dont think Geelong will want any third rounders.
Upgrades of picks maybe.

But the list squeeze is on big time. If we have more than 3 picks in the draft I'll be absolutely amazed.

No he can't; if we offer him a contract and he decides not to sign it then he goes into the draft, the only reason simpkin was able to walk to hawthorn is that we didnt offer him a contract

Possibly. Kersten is looking promising. But really, as none have played senior football so far, it's more like....

Unknown <> Unknown + Unknown.
Partridge I remember Todd Elton from the under u18's. Probably a bit like Blitz but I have no idea what he is like at current level.
But Hamling and Kersten has shown enough for my eyes to say their are better than unknown. Your correct but Im confident we have 2 very promising unknowns at the least

I've never even heard of that. Where are you reading that?
In fact, it sounds absurd

If we want to list him Yes , if we don't want to list him he walks to a club of his choice. Either way he is not being traded

Its always been that way , the only change is if don't want him he is a FA
What, so you wave a contract at me, and I dont sign it then you say "na na, your ours or you go into the draft"?

How free angency works

10+ years completely unrestricted; if the they are not contracted they can leave to a club of choice
8+ years not in the top 25% paid players completely unrestricted
8+ years in the top 25% paid players restricted: can select an offer from a single club, there current club gets
An option to match the terms of the contract, if they decide against that the player moves to that club
1-7 years not a free agent unless they have not been offered a contract and are delisted by there
current club. Once a player has been delisted they are then know as a delisted free agent

For example mumford in 2009

we offered him a contract but sydney offered him a better one; since he had been listed at geelong for less than 8 years and we offered him a contract he would not have been a free agent. His options would be to go to the draft or seek a trade

For example simpkin in 2012

Due to list size issues geelong couldn't offer him a contract to place him on the primary list, as such he was delisted after three years on the rooke list. Hawthorn then offered him a contract a delisted free agent where he was able to bypass the draft and move to his club of choice.

In Walkers case we are likely to offer him a contract do to his age build and general shortage of talls on our list. If for what ever reason another club wants him he will either need to be traded or move to his club of choice via the draft

lana.

Please show me where in the AFL rules that if a 3rd year rookie has a contract waved in front of thier face that they have to go in the draft.
Because they certainly can't be traded in that scenario.

while this isn't an offical afl document this is from the afl players association website

Essentially even as a third year rookie walker is still listed at geelong untill after trade week
- if he want to leave and geelong offers him a contract he is not a free agent

Edit: I just saw the section that refers specifically to rookies
It doesn't specifcially refer to third year rookies, it states that a second year rookie can reject another year on the rookie list and become a free agent, this is an exception that proves the rule that if offered a primary list contract and they reject the contract that are not a delisted free agent

It says nothing about a 3rd year rookie

Basically. If I offer you spot on our list ie contract and you say no then it draft for you
How?

How on earth would that ever work?

You guys are nuts.

Nothing gets lodged at the AFL until it is signed.
So if you wave a contract at me and I dont sign it. WHAT happens.
Do you cry and say "oh AFL, we offered him a contract.. cry...cry... he goes in the draft"

Get real.
