Does Gumby and Sylvia change the game plan at all?

If Sylvia comes in for a half forward (possibly De Boer), who does Gumby replace? Surely it can't be Clarke as Sandi needs a ruck partner, so we lose a smaller player.
That changes the whole dynamic & takes away one of the midfield rotations.
With the upcoming interchange cap, it also means that the guys with a huge tank like Mzungu become even more important, and we will also see a move to the traditional onballer "resting" forward like the old days. IMO
at the very least it's gonna be interesting & i back Ross & the team to work out the right mix.

Having Gumby, Pav and Sandi\Clark in the same forward line will reduce forward pressure.

It should stretch opposition defences, creating better\easier match ups for Mayne and Sandi\Clarke.

We saw what Gunston could do when he was match up against a 4th defender, and I am hoping Mayne can do something similar.

Like Hawks have done all year, I expect one of Sandi\Clark\Pav\Gumby to be subbed out mid way through the 3rd quarter to create extra run.

I see Sylvia replacing de Boer, which will add more fire power and about 1 goal a game. I am this change will not cause us to loose any forward pressure. Sylvia clean skills will be crucial, especially come finals time when you need clean skills entering the forward line.

Can't wait to see that 1 goal for the year hope it's a good one

I reckon we better ring Vlad and ask him to bring the start of the season forward to 1st December, what's this about cricket you say ......... yawwwwwwwwwwwn.

I would rather watch re runs of movies Elvis Presley starred in than the cricket. Although I do play tte game.

With Sylvia we've added a hard running midfielder half forward who loves a goal. With Gumby we've added the lead up foil for Pav who can also take a big grab.

Thinking about Lyon's comments post GF about giving up some to get some (score) I'm wondering whether these acquisitions will, at least at times, see us able to play a more traditional game plan.

Eg Pav deep forward surrounded by a couple of smalls coming up into the space, Gumby leading up and back with the flankers and wingers working forward into the space, stretching the opposition going both ways, but with a more attacking mindset. I'd also think Sylvia will rotate with Fyfe and possibly Walters through the midfield, changing things up and stretching both the opposition defence and midfield.

Thoughts?

Traditional Forward line + that extra pressure.

Then its the defence and midfield that work the press when its in our forward line. Thats our trademark IMO.

Sylvia is a good player. Unfairly maligned.

Good overhead, booming and accurate kick, tough as nails. Will get suspend though cause he's dirty and loves to fight.

If he's not already in your best 2-3 midfielders, he will be.

He will be behind Hill, Fyfe, Mundy and Barlow. If he can be our 5th best midfielder then he will be a very handy addition.

The thing is, he's always been tagged so heavily. Playing behind more than one other guy is going to be a first for him. I reckon he'll smash it. So damaging by foot, heaps of penetration. If he is somehow able to play a bit of an outside mid/HFF role, I reckon you guys will be very happy with him.

No offense mate, but this is Fremantle not Melbourne. Fyfe/Mundy/Barlow/Hill are ahead of him. You're right about the suspension part, hopefully he cuts that bit out of his game.

The cap on rotations will be huge for us

The 120 rotation cap isn't much less than what teams are running on now. The ave being 130 per club per game in 2013. This doesn't include quarter, half and three quarter time breaks. This brings it up to 130 rotations per game.

I don't think it will have a major effect on Freo but only time will tell.

Sylvia in has zero effect on our game plan.

Gumbleton however will change the whole forward dynamic after all he will be in at the expense of a smaller player such as deBoer. This will change our focus in attack and how we enter the 50 at the expense of it being more easily rebounded.

The only query I'd have on Sylvia is the defensive work rate, but at the same time, he won't be asked to do as much on the attacking side of things.

He really has no excuses now, his time at the MFC was our worst stretch of footy I've ever seen - so I can't put the blame on him as one player can only do so much. But for what feels like an eternity Demons fans have been saying "One day he'll go to a better side and win a brownlow or a norm smith or something".

I guess we finally get to find out :)
