If the offender was older then I would agree. But that kid needs to be educated, not outed in public. It was disgraceful behaviour by both parties and you can justify Goodes side of the story any way you like but you are just plain wrong.

If you're old enough to make the stupid comment, you're old enough to cop the heat.

Like what? OMFG, are you stupid?

What, the kid is going to feel bad because they got called out for insulting someone? Good.

He stood up for himself upon hearing someone racially abuse him.

If you have an issue with that, then you are the one with the problem.

Don't be a football player and believe in something. If footy players are boring in interviews, they're robots. If they speak their mind, they're showboats. If they believe in an issue, they're w*nkers. Such is bigfooty.

Perhaps by not making a 13 year old girl out to be the devil in public. He could have handled in any number of ways but what he did was set that kid up for public ridicule and the ramifications of that……ironically the same thing that he thinks he is trying to stamp out.
Tell me how else he could have handled it.

Bloke is an attention seeking sook
And herein lies the issue. A minority of people still think players should just "put up with it" when it comes to racial abuse and the like.

Take that attitude back to the 60's.

Rigggghhhhhttttt.

So if a 2 year old kid mimics his parents (and most do) is that kid old enough to cop the heat?

As for the girl outed in public by big hero Adam Goodes, who knows what she copped at school as a result of being publicly humiliated. And who knows where such bullying may lead.

Your defence of Adam Goodes is laughable.

I really wonder what people had done to them as children to develop this sort of mindset in adulthood.

If you're referring to those who proffer accolades as a way of gaining servitude later, I can't agree more. And those opportunistic people who're led around by the nose by such people, well they're certainly worthy of your pity too. But some us might prefer to treat them with scorn.

Just for clarification - how would you like Adam Goodes to have handled the situation? He's playing footy, hears "Ape!" and turns and points in the direction of the slur. Where in that chain of events has he made an error?

The kid knew what they were saying and knew who they were saying it to.

Bullying after the fact isn't right, but it would all stem from the original comment. Don't make the comment, and you won't have any after effects to deal with.

Ultimately, the instigator needs to take responsibility for the situation that they cause. Too much deflecting and unwillingness to admit that you're wrong in society these days. It's gutless and I'm sick of it.

No, I was referring to you, and people of your ilk with your mindset. Bitter and twisted.

Incorrect.

Nobody is saying that players (or anybody for that matter) should just put up with it but there are better solutions than outing a 13 year old girl in public.

Because he constantly plays for frees and gets looked after by the MRP worse than any other player in the league, despite the fact that he has a dirty streak

yep -what are those solutions-you keep saying that -tell me what his options were?

I actually believe the kids defence. She was calling him an ape in the same way the herald sun called buddy an ape. Cos he a big huge hairy man.

So, let's take that a step further then.

1) Goodes publicly outs girl for racist comments. Does this "educate" the girl? Probably not so Goodes has not achieved his goal.
2) Girl, who is now known to everybody is subject to verbal abuse, bullying and potentially worse.
3) Girl then possibly resorts to self-harm in the face of bullying.

And you are suggesting that Goodes can absolve himself of any responsibility should something happen to this kid?

Give me a freaking break.

How do you know she was subject to bullying and verbal abuse? And who's saying I'm condoning that behaviour from others if it did occur?
