Just had a quick peak at Port's board and found these two quotes.

To put that into some perspective, the world record for the 3000m is 7:20.67. And the Kenyan who set that was only 55 kilos, Kane weighs 81 kilos.

Kane ran 9:12 on the first time trial back.

three others broke his previous club record of about 9:20.

last preseason, the time trial post christmas 12 guys ran sub 10 minutes. We can only assume that number has increased.

Thats all I know.

So they tend to run 3km which is interesting in itself. An extra third longer so Cornes is a good runner if we consider the 6:00 mark good for 2 kms.

- Freeman fit and flying after hammy injuries and 2nd;
- Varcoe fit after extended injury concerns and almost 3rd;
- Seedsman fit and making top 8, after injury and some concerns on running ethic;
- The unfairly maligned Adams top 10;
- De Goey top 10 and looking like making early impact;
- Fasolo not missing a beat all pre-season and in the front pack;
- Maynard moving up the charts like a new Tool album;
- Scharenberg moving from mediocre jog to beating seasoned players.

Some of you could be locked in a room full of Victoria Secret models and still complain!

It was the worst month of my life.

it is an extra 50% longer, not third... :)

Amazing how everyone gravitates to the negatives when we have report suggesting:

Well said! And Manteit coming third!

What training sessions are being held at Goshes paddock between this Thursday and the coming Monday?
Melbourne football club training. The pies don't train at Goshes paddock anymore.

Yeah... But do you know when they're training over the next few days there... Coming in from out of town and want to take the little man down to watch his heroes.

Best idea would be to call the club I reckon. They should be able to tell you

And how many of those months did he spent sitting on his ass or walking around on crutches? Losing leg muscle mass and fitness

There is no way he should be beating any healthy player. Maybe the ruckmen who have to carry over 100kgs

Look I won't go in to the sport science specifics but Shazza would have been off his feet for a maximum 7 days then back up ASAP. Activation work/stationary bike to work on his glutes, quads, hammys etc. Progressing to strength work and then running. You actually don't miss that much work coming back from an ACL. Trust me, I've been there. It's just a very weak ligament that takes months upon months to get back to 100%. Aerobically, i would be expecting Sharenberg to be doing quite well at this point, which he is. If he's beating other blokes already it's more a pat on the back for him then anything else. It's the next 6 months that will be a pain in the arse for him, especially when the season rolls around. I'm sure he's hanging for the start of 2016 already.

Exactly so lets sack bucks and the coaching staff :p The few live games I get to I've been appalled by our inability to spread when we are in possession.

I went to a lot of neutral games last season and it really annoyed me how static we were in possession compared to other sides. We either refused to or just didnt have the fitness to spread hard. Its why our boys are being worked even harder this pre season, as well as last season. Yep short term it might hurt injury wise but in the long run it'll pay off.

In addition, it be intriguing to know where Sidebottom sits relative to those who win the trials at other games.

What also stands out (and I guess it's all relative) is that there's 14 seconds from Sidebottom to Freeman and then another 14 from Freeman to Manteit. That's nearly half a minute between 1 and 3.

Either Sidebottom is elite or we desperately need multiple players to close that gap and fast. Interesting to know what Ports figures are given they're regarded by some as being the fittest side.

I know Matt White used to be Richmonds best endurance runner by a long way but was struggling to break in to Ports top 5 in their time trials last pre season. Port are very good, but they've been brainwashed by 2 blokes who know their shit, Burgess and Hinkley, that they are better than everyone else. Oh and they can seriously play footy as well. They had 3-4 years where they collected 10 or so 1st round picks. Just like Collingwood has done in recent years. It takes time, but it'll be worth it.

Is it too hard for the club to upload some pre season related stuff to keep fans happy?

I've seen a fair bit on Carlton stuff all over the place, if that mob can do it surely we can too.

Pretty quiet off season so far. NAB Challenge can't come quick enough!

I've wondered a little about that. I could swear there was more content this time last year. I reckon it's one way to temper fan expectations leading into the season. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to have a quiet off-season (relatively). So long as the boys are putting in solid shifts.

Yeah I understand that, but people who aren't on BF and are Collingwood fans would be crying out for some news!

I guess I'm just bored in the off season :( Don't mind me! haha

Do you remember the sheer excitement of having Scharenberg and Freeman selected in the draft? The optimism around Karnezis, the coming of White, hell, even Tony Armstrong was placed on an obscure pedestal of excellence...BF or not, we, the Collingwood people, are some of the most insanely over-hyped supporters you'll ever come across. It messes with players heads, I tells ya.

I'm okay with a lack of content. It has meant that I am here chatting with you. :D

Nothing on the club website, but I'm assuming there will be a session tomorrow morning. I'm heading there about 9, so I bloody hope there is anyway

Sidebottom is absolutely elite. He would be in the top 1 per cent in the league without fail - and I don't even know for sure, I'm just guessing but I am so damn certain of it, I'd put a lot of money on it. Only Marty Clarke has come close to catching him while Sidey's been at the club. And the word on Marty when he got to the club back in 06(?) was that he's a runner, can run all day and night and then some.

Edit - and when you put it in perspective, it's quite nice to see a second and first year player within 30 seconds of him. Those guys seem to have quite a good fitness base to begin with. Will be very interested to see how their times improve over the years. Freeman might just be able to give Steele a run for his money in a couple of seasons. Hopefully they push each other in the right direction.
Hopefully others rise up and challenge them as we severely need two way runners. We won something like 7 last quarters last year so obviously we're not running games out - partially due to inexperience also

With Port it's not only their fitness that has gone through their roof but also their skills. Their ball use is absolutely phenomenal after they were dreadful in 11-12. It's an amazing turnaround in such a short period of time.

I'm quite happy with our drafting of late, I just pray that these kids develop and that we get their fitness bases up. If Ports skill levels can go through the roof (and it's mainly the same guys) I'm hopeful that we can improve similarly.
