Could some teams do with a bit of re-branding?

They need to change to "Western Sydney" ASAP. "GWS" just adds to the franchise stigma. It sounds sterile. I don't think they've put a foot wrong with the branding otherwise - colours, moniker, song etc.

I'm happy with our teal, with the black it makes for the best colour combination in the AFL. But I'm not a really fan of the "Power" moniker. Everytime I'm at the footy and yell "CARN THE POWER" I cringe a little inside.

My hat goes off to Fremantle for their rebranding this decade. Purple, green and red reminded me too much of Shapes biscuits and was a hideous colour combination. Purple is identified with the club, and the chevron guernsey looks much better and cleaner.

Western Bulldogs -> West Melbourne Football Club (West Melbourne Bulldogs)
West Coast Eagles -> Perth Football Club (Perth Eagles)
Greater Western Sydney Giants -> West Sydney Giants

Eagles should definitely go back to the blue & gold "wings" guernsey, the home one stinks.

I have always thought it sounds like a West Sydney street directory. Agree with the idea of Port phasing out 'Power', it sounds like a WNBL team or something. I never hear them referred to as Power by anyone in Melbourne anyway. I actually don't think they need a nickname Port Adelaide is solid.

Now that we have GWS the Western Bulldogs should revert to Footscray.

If club memberships is the benchmark, the name change to WB has not been a success

Wrong. Our membership is significantly higher than when we were Footscray, and our corporate support has increased exponentially.

The last season that we were known as Footscray was 1996 - we had only 10,650 members.

That number doubled within 2 seasons of us being rebranded the Western Bulldogs, reaching a peak of 34,842 in 2010.

I never understood the move to "Greater Western Sydney". The company was even registered as Western Sydney Football Club - they deliberately chose a WORSE trading name.
