We need a key forward for post Waite and Petrie. It's the biggest hole in the list IMHO.

I'm almost certain that if we don't act soon we'll have to swing one of Taz or Hansen forward once again. Both are competent there, though. I would prefer Taz since his kicking is better, but he's also the better 1on1 defender.

Thompson 29 as well. Surely by now our fans, more than fans of any other club, know that players don't fall off some performance cliff as soon as they hit 30. All those guys are capable of playing good footy for another 3-5 years. Just as Waite, Dal Boomer, Spud et al. all have.

I'd prefer to leave them both in defense and get another key forward that is more then competent

We have Brown, I still think Wood will make it as a third tall but I think it's an area we'll look to address through the draft this year.

I'm not sold on Wood. We seem pretty desperate given some people are penciling in Durdin who hasn't even played a game. We'll definitely need to address it but KPFs can take a long time to mature. We may, out of necessity, have to throw one of the two I mentioned forward over the next few years. Or we hit free agency extremely hard.

Drafted as a midfielder? Half back flank it is.
Drafted as a key position forward? Good, you can take on the gorillas at FB.
Drafted as a key position defender? Well, I hope you like that high centre half forward role (probably the hardest position on the ground).

Seems like if someone is over 190cm we just let the Arden St Kindergarten fingerpaint their playing positions onto the match board.

AFL coaches are also more likely to try and slot high draft picks into the side wherever they can, even in unfamiliar positions, just so that: (1) they can give them some AFL experience; and (2) because of the pressure of playing high picks.

It's not always a bad thing but sometimes it is detrimental to development.

You're right, we can't speculate on development patterns because we have a 100% success rate and have never stuffed up a young kid's development by playing them in positions they are not suited for nor comfortable with, right?

Hansen kicked 22 goals in 11 games as a forward before we had to flip him down back and Taz showed a bit up forward too. Both are showing good signs down back. That doesn't mean we can't speculate or ponder about the plan for other players.

Extremely difficult to find a key forward that is ready to go in the first 2 or 3 years. If Waites form continues next year I wouldn't be surprised to see him go for another year.

Wouldn't mind seeing if Redpath is interested in a move. Surely he knows his days are numbered with Boyd being on a 7 year deal with big money.
